User friendly
What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to find materials for my work.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that the search function is at times too vague.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Technical support issues. This site helps keep all of our current practices and procedures in one easily accessed database.
An exercise in efficiency
What do you like best about the product?
I love the overall product and its integration with JIRA. However, two main things really tie the knot for me: integration with third parties via widgets, and the composable sidebar. Being able to really customize Confluence with whatever integrations suit a particular page or space, as well as organize that space effectively make using Confluence a no-brainer, and adds to the core value that Atlassian's suite provides.
What do you dislike about the product?
As with most JIRA products, the UX/UI is found a little wanting. It could have a little more sex appeal, if I'm being totally honest. A more modern interface would do wonders, and it could be a little more mobile friendly, and do a lot to improve the overall user experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were solving the problem of having a centralized area for documentation that harmonizes between business and research and development. We have achieved this goal, creating a synergistic space to create, formulate and store our ideas and practices. The Holy Grail of our company.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are already using other Atlassian products like JIRA, Bitbucket and HipChat, then consider Confluence a no-brainer. If your work stack is more segmented and distributed, then evaluate what services you are using and do some research on what integrations Confluence already has available that will enable you to make the most effective use of Confluence as possible. You may also have to consider paid plugins, as not every integration is completely free.
Confluence is a great tool!
What do you like best about the product?
It's a great tool that helps organize all team projects and ideas. What I like best is that it allows you to import a LucidChart which is great for projects that you are going to build in conjunction with a database. For example, on the project page I always include an ERD to clarify how the database will be outlined.
What do you dislike about the product?
It does not display Word or Excel files nicely. It will not copy and paste attachments straight from an email Hierarchical permission structure can make it difficult to share content selectively, which can make things quite difficult when dealing with a large team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is never smart to begin a project without outlining it first. Confluence is a great tool that outlines each product in the clearest way possible, allowing every team player to submit his/her input. A group project is not a group project unless everyone has input!
Best on the Market
What do you like best about the product?
Confluence is the best tool on the market for documentation, hands down. Not only does it provide the best means for organizing and cross-referencing content, but is constantly improving with new releases that are logical progressions in the overall purpose for the product (as it evolves).
I've used Confluence for over 3 years now, and have seen the product grow exponentially during that time. Now that version 6.0 recently came out and offered real-time collaboration as well (to compete with Google Docs more directly), it's hard to see what Google Docs provides that Confluence doesn't do many times better.
- Intuitive
- Like riding a bike (once you know how to do one thing, you know everything)
- Labeling is very powerful
- People can take charge of their content
- The online help content is VERY good (some of the best I've seen). It's very easy to find the answers to most problems quickly and efficiently on Atlassian's website if you learn how to look for it.

What do you dislike about the product?
There don't appear to be clear-enough recommendations for how to use the tool. While it's understandable that the goal wouldn't be to dictate how something should be used, sometimes too much freedom can breed messiness and disarray. I'd appreciate it if some of the functionality were a little more rigid to force certain behaviors instead of enabling users to do anything.
- Multiple options leads to confusion (if it's unclear how to do something the "right" way if there are 10 ways to do it).
- Using the Atlassian Marketplace can be a bit confusing, and the updates there don't seem to be coming as often these days.
- Not enough templates come with it, or the "blueprints" that do don't seem to have a clear business function in an agile environment.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- Organizing documentation
- Standardizing processes for documentation
- Determining a meritocracy for content (i.e., featured vs. historical vs. archived, etc.).
- Making content searchable.
Confluence's search functionality far surpasses the abilities of any other tool I've tried. The key is learning how to search, then it's incredibly useful.
The biggest weakness here was with standardizing processes, because that really needs to come more at the company level (Atlassian does not provide it). Sometimes just saying "We can do it however you want" is too much freedom.
Using labels, macros, and plugins, it is very easy to feature content and make it available on many different pages as well. The Page Properties Report macro is especially useful for indexing content in other locations.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
- Check for a list of recent upgrades to see what kind of functionality was just added. If you see a lot of business problems solved by what's there, Confluence should be a really good tool for you.
- Give someone at your business the time and responsibility to learn how to use Confluence to teach others about it. It's important to have a subject matter expert to evangelize the tool so people understand the benefits beyond what's available with Google or other competitors.
- Try to think about what you might have liked about other documentation tools (e.g., Google Docs, SharePoint, etc.) and then compare that with how Confluence does things to see if you like it. While things are different, I think the flexibility is very useful.

Worked on Confluence to share documents
What do you like best about the product?
Confluence has a variety of functionalities including tagging, comments, versioning, edit, preview for document sharing and editing. It's quite useful.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like about confluence is its limited calendar and availability options.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The document sharing has improved.
Fantastic tool for everything roadmapping
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to store everything in one place with treemap for easy organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some functionality is missing for table creation. Also, calendar app needs to be part of the program, instead of an add-in.
Some of the UI could be cleaned up for functionality purposes.
Some of the UI could be cleaned up for functionality purposes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping everything in one place that's not on our servers where you have to VPN. Really helpful to those of us that travel all the time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just a little more forethought on look and feel.
Easy integration and a welcomed alternative to sharepoint
What do you like best about the product?
With Confluence there is the wonderful ability to create any form of page or segment as required based upon the needs of your group or anyone accessing the data uploaded. In addition to allowing them to be visible and configured in any way by anyone who is within the selected group.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is an issue every now and then where the system places a newly created page within the wrong container. Since it is very easy to do without much effort this can be a bit of a pain.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have turned to this as an alternative to sharepoint and it has already improved documentation and communication between teams. The calendar functionality is great as it provides consistent updates on team activities.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Explore and ensure that your team gets good playtime. Without knowing how to create and modify data within confluence they will be at a disadvantage.
Complex but impactful
What do you like best about the product?
-In-product tagging & ease to distribute information cross-functionally
-Ability to include GDrive (Docs and/or Spreadsheets) snapshots within blog posts
-Top trending, as well as all updates, previews for easy digging through the noise

What do you dislike about the product?
-Quite complex to navigate trough the product
-Rough UI (not UX focused IMO)
-Missing "save draft" capabilities in certain components
-Help centers tend to be the likes of SFDC which makes it tough to find a quick answer

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Empowers our teams to have a centralized location for all rules & procedures, while also enable sharing & active communication.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do your research prior to purchasing this software. It offers many capabilities which are great, however, it is quite easy to get caught up in an overload of information impeding progress. Having a familiar face with the tool roll out & implement it is quite handy!
The best documentation application out there.
What do you like best about the product?
Insertable widgets, integrates with Jira.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing. The product does what it is meant to do and does it well.
