Great internal communication tool and project tracking

  • April 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Comments feature - no longer have to email thoughts back and forth to coworkers. Can just drop a comment on a page and tag appropriate parties.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can sometimes be difficult to get back to a comment to view it once you've left the page. I wish there was a way to "view all" comments on a page in a sidebar.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were having difficulties making sure all people involved in projects were up to date on decisions and could easily reference the information they needed.

    Graphic Design

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence is very customizable. Add-ons can be installed to increase functionality that is tailored to your needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Page editing features are a little lacking. Formatting a page can be difficult at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use confluence to host research projects that can be accessed easily by my colleagues.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Confluence is a very powerful platform. It has applications for just about any profession. Be warned, some IT knowledge is required to fully take advantage of the software.

Full featured but expensive

  • April 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The variety of features that Atlassian provides and the robust updates that they roll out.
What do you dislike about the product?
The higher cost and maybe the feeling of being overwhelmed when first using it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is not much quicker to pull KB articles together and we have shortened the time necessary to fully flesh out our documentation.

Great product for documentation

  • April 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence makes it easy for our IT department to centralize documentation and put the proper permission structure around it. We switched from solutions from MediaWiki and our old Help Desk software. None of them met the need to house and format our documentation library, but Confluence has simplified this process and is now a tool that the entire department uses. We don't consider the project complete until the implementation team has recorded their documentation in the system.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the markup language is confusing for less advanced users to edit the documentation. I wish there was a better pricing model for utilizing their cloud offering. As it stands right now, the cost to move to their cloud based offering would be more expensive in two years than an on-premise server with the Confluence software installed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our organization introduced Confluence several years ago to have a single platform across our IT organization to use for documentation. Previously different divisions within IT were using different platforms and there was no standard. This has helped standardize the documentation process for us.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Confliuence works really well in combination with other Atlassian products, like Jira. However, these additional products are not required.

    Research

Powerful wiki style team tools

  • April 13, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Simple to use and powerful with a large number of addons.
Make company wide collaboration painless.
What do you dislike about the product?
It would be good if there was an offline mode. Sometimes the text formatting tool can be difficult to use.
Printing well formatting docs is difficult, though there are addon that can help with this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Used to implement a company quality system, so easy to use, easy to see changes between document versions. Users can comment and suggest changes
Recommendations to others considering the product:
try the hosted offering first

What do you dislike about the product?

Confluence - A great tool for organizing big projects

  • April 12, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I think the best part about Confluence is how flexible the file structure/page tree organization is within an organized space. This allows you to organize all aspects of a big project (documentation, notes, sub-categories, etc.) in an outline-like structure, that can be quickly glanced over to help other team members find exactly what they are looking for.
What do you dislike about the product?
The hardest part about Confluence is getting started. It's easy to be overwhelmed by the endless number of choices and opportunities that are available when starting with a blank space.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main business problem that our team solves with Confluence is having a shared, virtual space where team members across several remote/office locations can access and organize project or team-specific documents and resources. I think the biggest benefit that has been realized by using Confluence is the increase in visibility that comes from sharing documents in a tool/shared location vs. relying on email search and storage for communication.

Confluence. Great for WIKIs but not much else.

  • April 12, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the ease in which you can create a WIKI and the nice format they are done in.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pretty much everything else beyond WIKIs. Unfortunately the software is not a great platform to work in and is not conducive to the way people work. In addition the company is a pain to work with and doesn't seem like they care about their customers or working with their customers. Support from Atlassian for this platform leaves much to be desired.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Originally used as an Intranet and for a basic one it does that well. Was easy to implement and use.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would personally recommend looking elsewhere unless you are heavily invested in Atlassian products. These days SharePoint is probably a better offering if you need collaboration functionality.

What do you dislike about the product?
that i'm such a noob at setting up my team's pages. but, it's been a good learning experience.
