Old school software, yet easy and helpful to use

  • June 06, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to edit content. I find that some software makes every little process harder so their software seems "cutting edge". Although Confluence's layout is common, it's classic and everything is easily accessible. I find I am comfortable using it on a daily basis as opposed to other kinds of CMS'.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish I could have more options when it comes to Confluence's text editor. They have great options, but in some areas I feel limited. I like to be creative, so using only the basics in a text editor can be quite boring for me.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Confluence as a medium to host new ideas--something like a sandbox. We have been able to easily pass our ideas back and forth using Confluence as it is easily accessible and easily edited. We find anyone can easily use it without trouble.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This should not be a customer-facing flagship site. Use WordPress or Dreamweaver for that. This should be a support site that can help solve internal communication problems for your company.

Too much a bad thing?

  • June 06, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence is a great wiki tool. Working in an industry where we are always documenting information for clients, this allows us to do so often and well.
What do you dislike about the product?
Confluence offers many tools and features. Sometimes I wish there were less as I can get lost in the features very easily.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Documentation, instructions, etc. Most of the time we are documenting how to use new tools and features. We also use Confluence to build out requirements documentation and provide templated pdfs to clients.

Great collaboration and content management tool

  • June 02, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The tool is very easy to learn and use. And being a wiki at heart, it strongly encourages collaboration, which greatly helps with adoption. It's content authoring experience is also fantastic, with a very flexible and easy to use editor, catering to both new comers and experienced power users alike.

It also has a wide range of 3rd party add-ons that help to extend what the product is able to do, making the tool even more flexible. You can use it as a wiki (as it was originally intended for), or a more serious documentation platform, social collaboration portal, intranet, and more.
What do you dislike about the product?
The cloud and on-prem offerings, while mostly have the same out of the box capabilities, but when it comes to 3rd party extensibility, is very different, where the on-prem offering is far more flexible than the cloud equivalent. New users however, are often not aware of this, and can get frustrated when moving from on-prem to cloud to only find things they love about the product are no longer available.

Its content permissions, while decent, can be limiting in some scenarios, especially when involving sharing contents with parties outside of your own organization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using Confluence as one of the followings:

* intranet
* extranet
* documentation platform

Its content authoring experience means more people can contribute to the content, so as content management system (CMS), it is extremely flexible, able to react and adapt to changes quickly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Check for feature gaps between on-prem and Cloud, to make sure what you need is available for the option you select (Cloud is usually more restrictive), especially with 3rd party extensions.

Wiki, Intranet, Knowledgebase, etc

  • June 02, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence is a flexible solution that not only allows admins to use it how they wish, but also users. It seems as though each user in our organization has their own way of using it, and that's just fine by us.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have noticed that upgrades have a tendency to break things, but not keeping up to date leaves you vulnerable to attacks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Confluence is our one stop shop for SOWs, to-do lists, task tracking, issue tracking, and document sharing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Determine whether you want to take on the cost and hassle of running on prem

More than a repository, which gives flexibility but complexity

  • June 01, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how we're able to build collaborative workspaces and have content that the team can build together - text, images, discussions and documents.
What do you dislike about the product?
On the flipside, it's easy to get lost if you don't understand the organizational structure, making it difficult to find things - which is true for any collaboration repository solution with some level of depth.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to have global teams share information and document and catalog ideas, progress and communications in one central place.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you need a collaborative repository, and not just a file storage system like Box, or a collaboration tool like Slack.

Access rights management and easy to manage department sections of the application
What do you dislike about the product?

Nice Product for Project Documentation

  • June 01, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
One of the best project documentation tool which I use on a daily basis. Very easy to share it across the resources in a projects. Easily accessible, editable and so easy to maintain!
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a little bit difficult to create a flow chart within it. Alternative solution is to draw it in a different software and embed it to confluence.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This is the software which I use to document the project designs. The client really likes this product because it is so easy for them to access it. The client prefer confluence documentations rather than going through other softwares.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Confluence is a very reliable, quality product for using project documentations. I would recommend this product will cut short the documentation time to a great extend!

Best way to document Best Practices

  • June 01, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use for newbies. I'm a veteran of the software, so I appreciate that new users can jump in and start contributing without my assistance. As a power user, I like to share the other options with folks once they've gotten their feet wet.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I dislike is harder to answer. Sharing pages is awkward and the resultant emails do not stand out to users such that they know the importance of the share. People don't understand the importance of using a short-url to share things. This is not well documented.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Confluence best solves the need for company documentation at each employees fingertips. Essentially a company policy wiki that includes Best Practices and Standard Operating Proceedures.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Jump in and start creating in a given space. Look around; create some content. Then decide how your company can best use spaces (or not). The concept of spaces allows for even greater diversity for different teams.
