Feature rich, easy to setup and get pages created
What do you dislike about the product?
difficult to upgrade versions, add-ons costly, easy to forget where settings are
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
created internal wiki for documentation
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Decent inexpensive option for internal wiki, make sure you update regularly
Neutral toward Confluence
What do you like best about the product?
I like the search function. It's predictive search is great.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike how many places there are to do the same thing. It makes it a bit confusing to get where you want to go.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's great for tracking bugs, the status and work being done on them. It's beneficial to have several contributors be able to access the info.
Confluence for ticket management
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use. Easy to understand. Very organized ticketing system.
What do you dislike about the product?
Search function is a little wonky. Not the best options for search filters.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We utilize Confluence for knowledge base purposes and a ticketing system. Easy to use and great integration features.
Writing articles time to time
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to have preview, a lot of things for simple formatting, ability to embed different objects. Ability to insert wide range of UML diagrams. Nice cooperation with JIRA.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not possible to insert custom interactive objects with active content directly on the article page, like svg images or some tree view objects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mainly knowledge sharing. Kind of replacement for wiki pages.
Collaboration for the Masses
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, search that functions well, dashboards that present relevant information quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
The application can get a bit spendy if you need several templates or other plugins to get your workflow dialed in for your individual needs. If you can make-do with some of the built-in features or even have staff on hand that can create custom workflows, you will save a lot in the end.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Poor communication is the one of the most crippling issues any company can face. We are overcoming this through the use of Confluence to collaborate across teams and ensure that master copies of important data are up to date and contain a versioning trail.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Figure out exactly how many themes and plug-ins you will need to be successful before a long term commitment to the software is made.
Confluence Review - We love it
What do you like best about the product?
It stores all our documents regarding project plan, Sprint statuses, software engineering processes, data models and what not. Also, it makes collaboration very easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't dislike anything about confluence wiki

Beneficial
What do you like best about the product?
At our company, each team has the ability to create a confluence page. These can be used cross functionally or for just one team. My team utilizes confluence as a place for file storage and it allows the rest of the team members to have one place where they can download any necessary documents
What do you dislike about the product?
There's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to setting up pages
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use this as a collaboration tool. It helps teams to better work together and it helps teams to work cross functionally
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If there are opportunities for training, take advantage of them! While the tool can be figured out - there are a lot of features. It would be nice to have some help with learning about all of the things that can be done within confluence
Definitely the most useful and flexible intranet information web app.
What do you like best about the product?
We started using confluence recently. We track all of our projects in a hierarchical format to categorize information. Confluence makes it easy to add hierarchical structure when creating pages. The best thing that I like about confluence is that I can put information up and distribute the information easily to teams that use the information further down our process flow. I really enjoy using all of the macros when creating pages. Just having information on a web page for everyone is not enough. Making the information easy to read and formatted nicely ensures that people want to go to confluence to get reference information. I embed PDF's, word docs, etc in all of my confluence pages and it makes it easy for people to get the information right away!
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing I wish Confluence had is the following: We store most of our pdf, excel and word documents in subversion revision control. Every file has an http:// link so it can be accessed from anywhere on our network. What I CANNOT do with confluence is embed a pdf file into a page using the http:// link instead of attaching the file to the page. Attaching the file to the page is very very inconvenient because the file is no longer in sync with updates that occur. If the file is updated at any time, then the file has to be re-uploaded to the confluence page. very annoying
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are organizing information that is used across multiple different teams. Having the information organized on a web page makes it easy for people to find the information. Also, having to build the confluence page ensures that we take the time to organize the data properly instead of just saving the information in a document in some random place on a server.
Best Way to Share Knowledge
What do you like best about the product?
Confluence is versatile in that it can be as easy or as complex as you need it to be. The variety of macros you can add to a page make creating to do lists, calendars, setup guidelines, etc., clean and simple.
What do you dislike about the product?
It may be a limitation of our company, but when you type in a new label, it doesn't auto-populate, which leads to redundancies in label text.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Prior to Confluence, we were uploading all of our shared files into a shared drive. When we were out of office, we would only be able to access this via VPN (which can be a hassle in itself) and we would often work with out-of-date documents, because no one had updated the folder or because they had dropped the file in a different location. Now, we have the most up-to-date information, can easily search for documents using a singe relevant word, and we know the history of edits made to the page.
As an added bonus, being part of the Atlassian family, Confluence easily incorporates Jira, so that we can reference relevant work tickets.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get to know the product and its capabilities before creating new pages - it'll make a world of a difference.
Multi-Campus use in University System
What do you like best about the product?
It allows a data management team with members on 5 campus to share a single space for documents, meeting minutes and important information. This is helpful when we are far apart and don't share other systems.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have so many systems to be in that I don't use it as much as I should as it is an additional thing to open.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sharing of information with a team in multiple locations.
