Decent platform, but requires team structure

  • July 26, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence offers a lot of flexibility to make your team's documentation what you need. Its macros (such as table of contents, search, and JIRA integration) give it a leg up on platforms like Google Sites.
What do you dislike about the product?
The success of Confluence really depends on the structure put in place by the team using it. It can be scaled to large organizations, but because of the flexibility, the team using it needs to put best practices in place.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My team uses Confluence for business requirements and product documentation. This has been great for creating voice-of-truth documentation for a large organization with multiple verticals.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take a look at the Atlassian's documentation for Confluence and its macro options.

Confluence - Great for evergreen content and more time sensitive information

  • July 26, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence is very user friendly--it's pretty intuitive. For more involved projects, the help section is incredibly valuable. The layouts are clean and make it easy to follow and the organization help my team find documents they need. I also like that we can integrate this with JIRA.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some aspects that are less intuitive. Since this isn't a platform I use daily, I do have a hard time when trying to create more involved documents with macros, but as I mentioned, the help section is useful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest problem we've solved is storage of information. Previously we had resources spread out across many different channels--bookmarks, stickies, emails, hipchats--but now we can store everything in Confluence. Rather than having my managees ask me where something is, they now know where to find it, which is a big time saver.

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence creates a central hub for requirements documentation. It's a great tool, easy to use and very flexible.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish you could create custom blueprints on the cloud version.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The only drawback would be the lack of customizations on the cloud hosted version - specifically not being able to create cuatom blueprints.

Excellent tool for documentation.

What do you like best about the product?
We document several of our internal proto type designs for peer reviews and cross functional team sharing. Excellent for receiving feed back and educate end users.

Prior to Confluence, we were using a variety of different tools and online platforms, including:

A shared network of folders for client assets and project documentation
A proprietary knowledge base for internal document management
Outlook contacts to manage client information
A forum to internally share announcements and information about projects
With Confluence, we can now manage all of these functions with a single online platform that is easily accessible from the office or when we work remotely. No remote connection required.
What do you dislike about the product?
Features under security must enable more.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Business documentation
Technical documentation,
Design documentation.

Atlassian's JIRA (Confluence) is the best for project management and engineering

  • July 25, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to quickly visualize all the current projects on going, any changes being made. The ability to quickly and easily add individuals to conversations, a lot of built in automations/effects can be added.

Ability to have personalized users that are fun and easy to use.

You can easily link projects, assign ownership, users, priorities, ratings etc. The visualizations are rich and intuitive.
What do you dislike about the product?
The search function is a bit dated, in the sense that the syntax needs to be very specific to the query, otherwise you will be drowned in irrelevant data.

Much like Google search has hidden commands, e.g. Site: or using "quotes to find" exact search terms etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to quickly provide updates and comments on a wide variety of projects, releases, updates, fixes, etc.
