Using Confluence in the Workplace

  • July 31, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really enjoy being able to review and locate company resources easily and efficiently. Confluence allows our company to share training resources, personal stories, and insights into company development and growth. As a poster to Confluence, the editing is easy and user friendly, allowing me to put together a resource for my team, easily link pages, and include all of the information I need to. The expand sections are my favorite for keeping a nice, clean page appearance while also making the page incredibly informative.
What do you dislike about the product?
The left sidebar for navigation can sometimes be difficult to navigate. Some features such as this seem a bit outdated compared to other platforms. Sometimes the search feature can provide too broad of an answer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Confluence helps me stay engaged with every aspect of my company. I am able to easily find answers to my questions through searches, and being able to "watch" pages and receive email updates keeps me informed without have to do regular searches.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This tool is extremely beneficial to company procedures and training, but it has to be used to truly see the effectiveness. I had used Confluence at another company, and with a lack of resources posted, I did not get the same value out of the product as I do at HubSpot.

Confluence eliminates the need to know a guy to get IT help in a big office

  • July 31, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that users can keep track of their own requests, and even assign them to colleagues in some instance. This has proven to be a useful feature because sometimes only the user putting in the ticket knows who they want to assign the ticket to. As in, sometimes it takes a few days for the IT service desk to find the correct person to assign a ticket. Being able to assign a ticket to a specific user eliminates this.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is not much to dislike. In fact, we recent upgraded and that helped with the interface and usability a lot. I wish the users could view tickets after they are closed for learning reference.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to field so many IT requests in a large organization. We are able to help colleagues working all over the country from a single help desk. We even have implemented shifts so someone is at the service desk 24/7. Working at 3am and your computer crashes? Put in a ticket through your phone and there is someone there to help.
The discussion function is also helpful. Because problems are not always about check boxes, we are able to utilize the chat function on a single ticket. The email alerts are helpful when checking in with a ticket for discussion.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Especially useful for large organizations who would like their IT needs to be met across the country. As long as everyone is on the same server, everyone can put in tickets and make requests through this platform.

2) Task lists and allocations by using the @ symbol

2) The user interface can be non-intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Planning, work management, workflow, team collaboration, process development.
More organised approach to planning and prioritising projects.
Adherence to the process keeps everyone on the same page.

Be very sure of what you want to accomplish with the software and have a pre-prepared plan on exactly how that is going to be applied. I recommend that you use it concurrently with JIRA for task management and KANBAN functionality.

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence reduces holding several documentation in various folders. I have organize my task's stories for each of the projects linked to the folders within JIRA. Every folder/story has a structure content, plus stories are accessible to everyone in the team. My team members know exactly where to look for when they need information on specific tasks. Also, new members are able to see the documentations about a task right out of box and learn the requirement .
What do you dislike about the product?
hum, none. I do not have any issues with it since I have been using it in every consulting projects. It was requited to have experience with it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It provides excellent visibility into my web development projects.
1- Tracking and managing the changes in a project.
2- Translating requirements into JIRA stories with just a click on a link.
3- Technical decisions in Confluence is easy and it makes releases automatic.
4- Also adds history logs for each release in JIRA.
