Confluence is a great collaboration & KMS tool

  • December 13, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence has replaced wiki and sharepoint for most of our work needs. I personally love the Gliffy plugin which lets you create awesome diagrams in the confluence page itself. Especially you get public cloud icons as well, which are great for creating architectural diagrams.

They also provide confi-forms plugin which we used in the past to use confluence pages as questionnaire. It worked out great.
What do you dislike about the product?
Although we use Confluence for hosting our requirements and even design documents but it essentially is not a inventory system.

You do have the possibility to create tables but confluence tables aren't that great and you do not get native option of doing filtering and using it to store our Configuration Items (CIs). For example, list of public cloud accounts with other metadata details.

We still have to use excel for that specific need.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Comala workflows to control versioning for our service team facing documentation created in Confluence. This way before very release, we do get the documents reviewed within the team and have them published.

For our JIRA dashboard as well, you do get a filter to pull data on a confluence page and have it shown to executives and non IT folks. They usually do not login to JIRA application.

Having data in form of dashboards in confluence works great!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are already invested in Atlassian suite, Confluence is a great collaboration product to have. You can use it host your documentation, do polling, surveys - possibilities are endless.

Confluence needs to improve ...

  • December 10, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The thing that I like from confluence is that you can have an organized space, it has some tweaks here and there that can be use to document most processes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Confluence is not very dynamic as you would expect, the add ons that you can add to your wiki are not good, they are not innovating enough to make confluence work. It is kind of difficult to add graphs or other kind of content like small video previews or video tutorials. Confluence makes documentation not very appealing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Documentation mainly, if you need a place where to store all the documentation from a new project you are in or just want to make a step by step tutorial on how to use your tool, this tool might help you to do so, it is not very intuitive, and it is lacking of many cool stuff that other tools offer.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Confluence is very sturdy and not so simple to use, there are other tools that can make a better job or can be more visual, we know documenting its super boring, and to have a tool that it is not very simple to use or does not have amazing resources for you to simplify your documentation job, it is really a waste of time, I really do not recommend confluence, I think it is lacking from some core features that can make documentation better, simpler and enjoyable for sure.

What do you dislike about the product?
Usability of some features (like administration) for non developpers users could be not so good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Confluence for documentation

  • December 04, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Makes it easy to write and share documentation company wide
What do you dislike about the product?
The editor is not a true markdown editor, it would be great if I could write a whole doc in markdown and have it rendered directly from markdown.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Makes it easy to create and organize documentation, also allows to set different permission levels for a doc to limit who can view and edit a page.

Easy-to-Use Collaborative Workspace

  • December 03, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that Confluence has an easy-to-learn format. Even if you have never used it before, the options at the top of the tool bar when editing a page are clear, and there’s a lot of documentation online. In addition, there are a fair amount of macros available for use in Confluence, which can make otherwise tedious tasks easy (ex. inserting a table of contents that automatically updates or excludes certain headings, etc.).
What do you dislike about the product?
I think sometimes it can be unexplainably buggy. Sometimes when multiple users are editing a page at once, it will become glitchy when one of the users tries to edit the font or tries to type in a new area. Additionally, permissioning certain pages/spaces can be a hassle at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Confluence has helped us to store documentation specific to our group at work. Confluence allows you to create “Spaces” for certain users, and different pages can be stored under a given space. It’s like having a mini-Wikipedia space. It also is a good space for knowledge-transfer - if you’re trying to store documentation specific to a project, it’s an easy space to allow access for everyone who needs it.

Best Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing Tool

  • November 23, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Centralized knowledge sharing tool. Well integrated with the atlassian products like Jira, Bitbucket. Macros are very helpful to enable custom solutions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Complex requirements are not easily possible with the available macros. Performance is not good when using large data or complex macros.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Document sharing, collaboration between team, centralized multi author documentation solution. Well integrated between all atlassian products.

Wikipedia of a Company

  • November 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Confluence provides a single place online platform to accumulate and share information of the Company. It is a very quick way to document knowledge. Employees can gather all information about the company and the updates of the company by a single login. Even global information can be gathered sitting anywhere. Great features of formatting to make the page eye catchy is available. To make it secured login can be made only after connecting to VPN. Even URL's are available in the login page so switching is quite easy. Like comment option is available due to which it is a bit interseting.
What do you dislike about the product?
To search information is not that easy. Also for a first time user efforts are needed to understand the basics of the confluence. Further it is a bit costly. The app version is not very effective.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping the employees informed which is generally difficult for the company that are employee oriented. It is a central storehouse of all the information and need not be documented anywhere else as backups are there.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Must compare the benefits reaping with the cost involved, beneficial for large employee base companies.
