- Enables real-time collaboration across distributed teams.
- Offers advanced requirements management capabilities.
- Consolidates multiple development processes into a single platform.
- Is designed to handle projects of varying complexity.
- Offers customizable workflows streamline processes.
- Ensures proper version control.
- Integrates with a variety of different tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
Polarion:

- Can be complex for new users to learn, requiring significant training and onboarding.
- Does not offer some reports that are useful when working on a daily basis.
- Has some features that overlap with other tools, which makes the functionality redundant, as some of these features do not offer the same capabilities as the other tools.
- Requires sometimes quite some effort when installing plugins.

Polarion's customer support can have quite lengthy response times, and the proposed solutions often fail to effectively address or resolve the underlying issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Polarion supports the development of products and software by providing lots of capabilities, such as ensuring end-to-end traceability, improving collaboration, streamlining workflows, simplifying regulatory compliance, consolidating tool functionalities into one platform, and providing actionable insights.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like most about Polarion that it is so open for devs and therefore one can adjust Polarion to specific business process. It feels a bit like a framework with a really great backend.
What do you dislike about the product?
That most pages are based on a technology that is quite old and slow (Velocity)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Impact traceability of changing requirements as well as an overall transparency

Comprehensive ALM tool with good configuration options

  • January 17, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The UI/UX is very appealing and clear. The configurations are very easy to understand and set up. The update policy (twice per year) is very good.
What do you dislike about the product?
The functionality is limited in the out-of-the-box solution. To work diligently with the tool, extensions (Multilevel Traceability Widget, etc.) are absolutely necessary. The query capabilities are inadequate (e.g., not filterable by explicit link roles - only via SQL).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The functionality is limited in the out-of-the-box solution. To work conscientiously with the tool, extensions (such as the Multilevel Traceability Widget, etc.) are absolutely necessary. For an ALM solution, some functions are insufficient and must be expanded with paid extensions. The query capabilities are inadequate (e.g., not filterable by explicit link roles - only via SQL).

Polarion ALM - a smart, fast and versatile tool to get a handle on processes

  • October 15, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Polarion can be used universally for almost all processes and process models (A-SPICE, CMMI, DO-*, GMP, GAMP, ISO9001, ...) in product, system and software development and beyond. Unfortunately, when purchasing ALM software, the focus is usually on development. If you don't have a good consultant at your side, you won't use the ALM tool to its full potential and neglect areas such as operational risk management, lessons learned, team management or customer management.

In a recent conversation, someone said to me that Polarion is like a speedboat. What he actually wanted to tell me is that Polarion can be used for the first projects within a few hours (less than 8 hours for OnPrem installation). Of course, Polarion can also be installed in the company cloud or on a server on the Internet.

Polarion is customizable to the processes in the company.

Areas of application:
# Product, system and software development with agile (SCRUM/Kanban) or classic methods
# Operational quality management as part of a framework such as ISO 9001
# Team organization
# Operational risk management / risk management for the development projects takes place directly in the project
# Lessons learned
# Standard and norms
# Customer management

Areas of application in the project:
Across the entire process world from requirements engineering and test management to problem and change management, release management, planning, task management and much more.

I would also like to say a few words about the support from Siemens regarding Polarion. From my point of view as a consultant and customer, I would sometimes wish for better support. But this is complaining at a very high level. As a consultant, I have come across many other manufacturers where the support was much worse.

We use Polarion ALm on a daily basis, both in-house and with our customers. We operate and maintain systems at the customer's premises. We advise customers on processes, methods and customizations. We are not locusts, but we can implement everything we advise in a corresponding order. The architecture here is based on a number of open quasi-standards and is very easy to maintain.
What do you dislike about the product?
Polarion ALM is definitely not a substitute for a PLM system. Of course, suitable PLM systems can be connected.

Gaps / weaknesses of Polarion are the multiple project management in the classical sense and the resource management over a large number of projects like MS Project does.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The Navi8 Consulting team is spread out and communication and a uniform view of the data was not easy.

With the Siemens Polarion ALM software, we have a central point of contact where all data can be accessed by all employees. Thanks to task management, tasks can be clearly delegated and the author is notified of any changes.

Collaboration on company topics such as the installation of an operational quality management system such as ISO9001 can also be easily implemented.

Polarion ALM always adapts to the needs of Navi8. It can be used equally in product, system and software development and also as an inter-company risk management or lessons-learned system.

For us, Siemens Polarion ALM is a tool for many different tasks and activities.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Polarion's flexibility, scalability, and customization capabilities in requirements engineering, which include full traceability, compliance support, and real-time collaboration, especially across distributed teams. With continuous updates, an intuitive user interface and reliable support, Polarion remains a modern and user-friendly solution for a wide range of industries.
What do you dislike about the product?
Polarion's steep learning curve and complex configuration can be challenging and time-consuming for new users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Polarion is an excellent tool for requirements engineering, especially when it comes to ensuring compliance with standards such as ISO 9001. It supports seamless quality assurance and full traceability, allowing users to track requirements from creation to validation. What do you like best about the product?
From all the presentations I have seen at RealizeLive it seems as the best tool. In fact, at my company Epiroc we have started looking into getting Polarion for our R&D business.

As of now I have not seen any disadvantages. Looks like when users are having need for fixes or new features, Siemens will meet the needs and provide improvements.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It will solve the problem of losing control over requirements and tests, that today is stored in Word documents.
