Great Collaboration and Tracking, but Challenging Implementation
What do you like best about the product?
I like most of Workiva features, such as data linking, admin registration, and the fact it logs every changes. Plus, you can work on the same document simultaneously without version conflicts-its fantastic.
What do you dislike about the product?
The platform required significant investment and was difficult to implement.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
This tool has been extremely helpful, as it significantly lowers the risk of reporting errors and enables us to connect the dots and analyze data at specific points in time. It also transforms the annual nightmare of regular manual reporting into a manageable process for directors, finance departments, and the board of directors.
Workiva: Exceptional for Complex Reporting, but Requires Commitment and Careful Setup
What do you like best about the product?
Workiva makes complex financial reporting and compliance work far more efficient and controlled. I like how it centralizes data, documents, and workflows in a single, cloud-based platform — eliminating version control issues and endless email chains. The ability to link data across reports means updates flow automatically through to SEC filings, management reports, and board decks, which saves significant time and reduces error risk. Collaboration features are strong; auditors, accountants, and FP&A teams can all work in real time without overwriting each other’s changes. For organizations managing multiple entities or regulatory filings, Workiva brings a level of transparency and auditability that’s hard to replicate elsewhere.
What do you dislike about the product?
Workiva is a powerful platform best suited for complex reporting. For smaller teams or simpler needs, however, it can be over-engineered. Implementation requires significant time and training to map data, set permissions, and build templates. Its flexibility demands strong governance to avoid redundant workflows, and integrations with other systems could be smoother. As an enterprise-level solution, its cost scales significantly with usage, making it a substantial investment that requires committed resources to realize its full value.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Workiva addresses the ongoing challenges of version control and data integrity that often arise in complex financial and regulatory reporting. Prior to adopting this platform, managing SEC filings, board reports, and audit deliverables meant juggling multiple disconnected spreadsheets and relying on manual updates—a process that was susceptible to errors and last-minute reconciliations. With Workiva, data is centralized and linked across various reports, ensuring that all stakeholders are referencing a single, reliable source of truth. This shift has greatly reduced the manual effort required during close and reporting cycles, enhanced accuracy, and reinforced internal controls. The platform’s real-time collaboration features and comprehensive audit trail have made compliance tasks faster, more streamlined, and easier to defend.
