Moves VMs seamlessly with a user-friendly interface and reliable replication for swift cloud migrations
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
I would assess the ease of use of HPE Zerto Software as straightforward. It is easy to use, and the user interface is excellent. When using HPE Zerto Software for VM migrations from on-premises to the cloud, it provides valuable features and transfers them quickly, so users do not need to spend much time on it.
My impressions of HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication are that it is seamless. Near-synchronous replication is important to my organization because it takes less time to migrate the workload, which is what we are looking for, along with it being faster and having no complexity, making the migration 100% successful.
HPE Zerto Software has improved our RPO and RTO. Earlier, our RPO and RTO were based on the application tier, but now they have been reduced significantly, so we appreciate this product.
What needs improvement?
I think HPE Zerto Software is excellent, and I don't see any issues with it, so I don't know if anything needs to be improved. I don't have any suggestions for additional features I would to see included in the next release of HPE Zerto Software.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using HPE Zerto Software for almost five years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would assess the stability and reliability of HPE Zerto Software as good, and I cannot say anything negative about it. I have not experienced any downtime, crashes, or performance issues with HPE Zerto Software, as we have high availability.

I have seen a return on investment with HPE Zerto Software.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Regarding my experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing, I think on the pricing side, I don't generally deal with it, but from what I hear from my finance team, it's somewhat on the higher side. If licensing could be reduced, that would be beneficial.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to other organizations considering HPE Zerto Software is that they should try it first and evaluate it based on the feature set before making a decision, as I think they will appreciate HPE Zerto Software. I rate HPE Zerto Software 10 out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Failover capabilities ensure continuous operations with minimal downtime
What is our primary use case?
Currently, my main use case for HPE Zerto Software is for failover. We have a site in Salt Lake City and another data center in Oregon. We fail over from this site to that site, verify, and fail things back. This is its main purpose as of today.
What is most valuable?
The feature of HPE Zerto Software that I appreciate the most is the ability to pick and choose what to fail over and when to failover. It is really easy to build a new zone and add servers, as well as remove them.
An example of how the features of HPE Zerto Software have benefited my organization was when we lost a circuit. We have a primary circuit from Salt Lake over to Portland and a backup one that runs through several different sites. We actually lost the main one and had to failover. Because most of the servers are in Salt Lake City, we had to replicate those back over to Portland because that is where they make the money. I had a few minor hiccups, but it was not our fault. It was just bandwidth, but we now have a larger pipe. That was a happy accident when we discovered why it was not going any faster - we were maxed out.
What needs improvement?
I find HPE Zerto Software to be pretty intuitive as it is, and I have nothing to suggest for improvement.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using HPE Zerto Software for about four years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the stability and reliability of HPE Zerto Software at about 20. It just works.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
HPE Zerto Software scales with the growing needs of my organization. The only issue I have ever encountered was when our developers grew busy and expanded their applications too quickly for licensing. That was resolved with a simple phone call. We received the new key by end of day after discussing how many additional licenses were needed.
How are customer service and support?
I would evaluate customer service and technical support for HPE Zerto Software as exceptional. They listen first, then ensure they understand the problem before providing multiple solution alternatives. Having been in computing for almost 35 years, they are one of probably two or three companies that truly listen first.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I was using another solution to address similar needs prior to adopting HPE Zerto Software, but I am not sure what it was.
How was the initial setup?
My experience with pricing, setup, costs, and licensing for HPE Zerto Software has been positive. The installers were knowledgeable and completed the installation correctly the first time. When we upgraded from VMware 6 to version 7, we needed to install a new agent. When it did not work initially, technical support quickly resolved the issue with specific instructions in just one call.
What was our ROI?
I have seen an ROI with HPE Zerto Software through faster recovery. We are getting closer to the five nines. Having the confidence that if something happens, our documented steps will work is invaluable.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have personally used Veeam before selecting HPE Zerto Software, but having only been with the company for five years, I am not sure what solutions were used before that.
What other advice do I have?
HPE Zerto Software is important to my organization because when performing replication, both systems remain functional during failover until the final switch. This results in virtually no downtime.
HPE Zerto Software has helped reduce downtime by at least 25% through faster recovery. For instance, if we lose an image, we can quickly recover it and power the VM back on, which is much better than retrieving a golden image that could take hours.
The solution has impacted my RTOs and RPOs significantly, saving me approximately two hours per day. It has also reduced our DR testing frequency from every other month to twice a year.
Regarding Cyber Vault solutions, the most important capability would be the ability to isolate a server immediately after a ransomware attack to investigate the incident.
My advice to other organizations considering HPE Zerto Software is to consider its ease of integration. It integrates seamlessly with various networks and works especially with HP infrastructure. The support from both HP and HPE Zerto Software teams is excellent.
I rate HPE Zerto Software 10 out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

How has it helped my organization?
HPE Zerto Software benefited my organization as it allows us to test changes without impacting production.
What is most valuable?
The features of HPE Zerto Software that I appreciate the most include being able to recover VMs, change the target, and either deploy the VM with the same IP address or a different IP address on different networks for a digital twin.
My impressions of HPE Zerto's near-synchronous replication are impressive, and this feature is particularly important to us. Unfortunately, we're not a HPE Zerto Software customer anymore, but I've been actively trying to push for us to get it again.
The solution has saved me time in data recovery situations due to data corruption scenarios, though not specifically for ransomware.
The solution has helped reduce downtime by approximately 10 hours. I cannot specify how much that amount of downtime would have cost my organization since we were a managed service provider managing HPE Zerto Software for their company.
HPE Zerto Software has significantly lowered our time to recovery. It performs better than other recovery solutions I've used, including Veeam and the native VMware solution, which I found inadequate.
It has helped reduce our DR testing by about two hours. I am not currently using a cyber vault solution or immutable data copies to ensure recovery from a cyber threat. We have discontinued using HPE Zerto Software.
What needs improvement?
I don't know how HPE Zerto Software can be improved; I think it's pretty great. If it can recover VMs or infrastructure into public clouds or vice versa, that would be awesome.
One potential improvement for the future would be competitive pricing with Veeam.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using HPE Zerto Software for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not experienced any downtime, crashes, or performance issues with HPE Zerto Software.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
HPE Zerto Software scaled effectively with the growing needs of my organization. The multi-tenancy capabilities were beneficial since we were a managed service provider and could resell that to our customers.
How are customer service and support?
I would evaluate customer service and technical support as exceptional, though I never needed to engage them. On a scale of one to 10, I would rate them as a 10, though I never really interacted with them.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive

My advice to other organizations considering HPE Zerto Software is that it would be unwise not to purchase it.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
continuous data protection enables rapid recovery and reliable service
What is our primary use case?
We use HPE Zerto Software for disaster recovery, resiliency, and peace of mind.
How has it helped my organization?
It provides peace of mind, it allows us to feel confident knowing that the data protection platform is in-place and allows for rapid recovery in the event of data integrity failures, or platform disruptions.
What is most valuable?
The contextual help and simulation of HPE Zerto Software are the most valuable features. HPE Zerto Software's continuous data protection or CDP is critical for our organization because it allows us to recover within seconds to minutes, and the journal allows us to pick a point-in-time recovery. The journal allows us to recover from a point in time before an event occurred.

We used Veeam as our previous solution and we switched to HPE Zerto Software to ensure that we had a mutable backup, as well as synchronous replication.
How was the initial setup?
I don't perform setup and initial configuration, another team does that.
What was our ROI?
That amount of downtime would cost our organization in the millions.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't operate in this vein of the business.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Veeam, Rubrik, ASR.
What other advice do I have?

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Ensures rapid data recovery and continuous protection for critical applications
What is our primary use case?
My main use cases for HPE Zerto Software include disaster recovery and data protection for our critical applications.
How has it helped my organization?
We built two data centers and needed to migrate our workload from one to the other and vice versa. We needed to do that with as little downtime as possible. We purchased migration licenses and it went so smoothly - with just seconds of downtime - that we decided to stick with them for DR.
By implementing HPE Zerto Software, my organization was trying to solve challenges relating to minimizing downtime and ensuring data integrity during unexpected outages. This solution has saved me time in data recovery situations due to ransomware and other causes, allowing for quick restoration of services.
Since implementing, we haven't had any failures, however, the testing features have provided great peace of mind.
What is most valuable?
The features of HPE Zerto Software that I appreciate the most include continuous data protection and the flexibility it provides for cloud integrations. I can provide examples of how the features have benefited my organization, such as significantly reducing our recovery time during incidents.
The built-in testing features are great. Everything is really easy to use.
The failover feature is great for getting VMs up and running at a secondary site.
The journaling feature allows us to go back five or ten seconds back in time. It's really helpful. We can just go back to that last snapshot and not lose anything.
It has helped to reduce downtime in situations, especially migration. It's providing us with a seamless recovery process. It has saved us countless hours of downtime, translating to significant cost savings. You don't want the end users knowing you are even doing anything, and we can achieve that.
HPE Zerto Software has positively impacted our RTOs and RPOs by improving our recovery objectives and ensuring data is always available. Other than migration, we haven't had the need for it.
The solution has helped with my organization's disaster recovery testing process. You can just click a button and do a test instead of doing anything in production.
What needs improvement?
I don't have any idea of areas fro improvement.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using HPE Zerto Software for approximately a year now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would assess the stability and reliability of HPE Zerto Software as excellent, as it performs consistently under different conditions. We rarely get alerts or notifications.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
HPE Zerto Software scales very efficiently with the growing needs of my organization, adapting easily as our data volume increases. I have expanded my usage of HPE Zerto Software to cover more applications and databases. That expansion has been incredibly smooth. We're looking to expand more.
How are customer service and support?
I haven't had to engage with technical support.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to adopting HPE Zerto Software, I was using another solution.
How was the initial setup?
I would describe my experience deploying HPE Zerto Software as really easy; the process was straightforward. When we originally implemented it a year and a half ago, we still deployed on a Windows VM. Now, the have a VM appliance, and we're looking to migrate to that soon.
What was our ROI?
I have seen an ROI with HPE Zerto Software. The migration was huge. It saved us a lot of time.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing has been satisfactory. The impression the software gave us is that it's easy to use. We're not a heavy user so we just bought a 25-pack.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before selecting HPE Zerto Software, I considered other solutions such as VMware and Commvault for our backup and recovery needs. What stood out in my evaluation process was HPE Zerto Software's simplicity and ease of use.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for other organizations considering HPE Zerto Software would be to thoroughly evaluate your needs and understand how its features can benefit your operations.
On a scale of one to ten, I would rate HPE Zerto Software a strong nine for its overall performance and service.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Improved recovery rates and seamless migration process boost operational efficiency
What is our primary use case?
HPE Zerto Software is basically used for site replication.
How has it helped my organization?
We needed increased uptime and resilience, and Zerto helped with that.
The features of HPE Zerto Software have benefited our organization by increasing our recovery rate on systems that have a tight recovery RPO, and it's also allowing us to migrate workloads from VMware to Hyper-V in a seamless fashion.
What is most valuable?
The replication aspect of HPE Zerto Software is what I appreciate the most, but we also appreciate the conversion feature. We're moving from VMware to Hyper-V.
It's easy to use. It's point-and-click and very logical.
The near-synchronous replication is very good. We have some applications that are single-site only that do have a really high RPO. With synchronous replication, if we do experience a fault, we can bring it up on the other side on our other data center and also have a point in time recovery.
We have saved time in a data recovery situation. We had misconfiguration and we were able to bring the system back up on our redundant data center in about ten minutes. It would have taken about five hours and lost about 24 hours of otherwise with tranditional recovery.
We've reduced downtime by about 24 hours. That would have cost several thousand to several hundred thousand dollars.
It's increased RPO and RTO recovery times due to synchronization rates that are selectable. It's impressive compared to other solutions such as traditional Avamar, TSM, or Commvault backups. Those take anywhere from five to ten hours to recover systems. Avamar is literally minutes.
What needs improvement?
I definitely would like to see the continuation of the migration capability to Hyper-V included in the next release of HPE Zerto Software, as well as adding migration capabilities to other hypervisors, such as Nutanix Acropolis.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using HPE Zerto Software for five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not experienced any downtime, crashes, or performance issues with HPE Zerto Software.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
HPE Zerto Software scales with the growing needs of our organization.
How are customer service and support?
I evaluate customer service and technical support for HPE Zerto Software very highly; every question we've had has been answered promptly and first-time resolution is very high.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to adopting HPE Zerto Software, we were using Veeam. We were looking at and actually using Veeam, and we were using Avamar before selecting HPE Zerto Software.
How was the initial setup?
My experience with deploying HPE Zerto Software is very straightforward and easy to deploy.
What about the implementation team?
We're using Commvault and Dell Cyber Vault as our solution approach.
What was our ROI?
I think we have seen a return on investment with HPE Zerto Software.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing for HPE Zerto Software has been very positive.
What other advice do I have?
I've not had any complaints about HPE Zerto Software's functionality.
My advice to other organizations considering HPE Zerto Software is that it is definitely a far cheaper solution than using array-based replication, and it's one of the most stable software deployments that we've done that runs in a Windows environment.
On a scale of one to ten, I rate HPE Zerto Software a ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Ransomware protection strengthens with reliable backup replication and great technical support
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for HPE Zerto Software is ransomware protection, so basically, the entire environment is replicated.
How has it helped my organization?
It's helped protect us and give us recovery from ransomware. We're only allowed about an hour of downtime before we need to start making calls.
Zerto features of HPE Zerto Software benefit my organization by allowing it to be set and forget. Once it's operational, I just check it every once in a while to make sure it's still working. If I make a new machine, I add it to the group to get replicated and that's it. It requires very little maintenance.
What is most valuable?
What I appreciate the most about HPE Zerto Software is that it works.
I'd rate the ease of use four out of five. It's fairly easy to use.
The near-sychronous replication is good, even though we don't need that fast of a replication. If I have an application crash, I can step back a week and get back what I need.
Zerto positively impacted our RTOs and RPOS. Before Zerto, it would take us four days to recover. Now, we're looking at a couple of hours. Compared to other solutions, like Veeam, the biggest difference is that, though it is very simple, it doesn't have in-built security.
We haven't DR tested it yet. I'll bring up machines, however, this is a completely different solution than what we had. We build a complete Vault around Zerto. We made our own Cyber Vault. The most important capability for that is the air gap.
What needs improvement?
HPE Zerto Software can be improved by allowing a system inside my makeshift vault to reach out to the other system and pull backups inside, which would let me punch fewer holes.
Currently, my understanding is you have to have two systems that are interconnected. Based on how I've built it, if I could have a system inside my makeshift vault reach out to the other system, that would be more secure.
Right now, both systems have to talk to work. We've completely rebuilt our infrastructure inside, including firewalls and everything, inside a basic vault. It has the same concept. For that system to replicate, we have to have holes in the firewall for the outside system to reach in to connect to the HPE Zerto Software inside.
A lot of the wording isn't very clear. If you don't know what you're looking at, it just oesn't make sense when you are setting it up.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using HPE Zerto Software for three months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
My assessment of the stability and reliability of HPE Zerto Software is that I haven't had any issues yet.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
HPE Zerto Software scales with the growing needs of my organization in that it's all about the licenses. I have not yet expanded usage of HPE Zerto Software, however, that is actually in my budget for next year.
How are customer service and support?
I would evaluate customer service and technical support for HPE Zerto Software as awesome. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the customer service and technical support for HPE Zerto Software as nine. The reason for my rating is that they've been very responsive. I think sometimes there's a little bit of a gap in communications, but usually, it's not too significant a deal.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to adopting HPE Zerto Software, I was using another solution to address similar needs, which was StoreEver.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment model for HPE Zerto Software is that we have two data centers that are basically stacked as one in diverse locations. When we rebuilt and built the HPE Zerto Software system, we built it the same way. We have it stretched across two data centers, so we have high availability across two data centers times two, essentially.
What about the implementation team?
My experience with deploying HPE Zerto Software is that we paid for deployment. We paid for the full service and initial setup. Honestly, that was worth it. It cost as much as the licenses, however, having somebody to be there, walk you through it, find all the loopholes and the menus that aren't quite clear was valuable. There are a few of those products. Morpheus was the same way.
What was our ROI?
I have seen an ROI on HPE Zerto Software based on estimates of what it would cost us to recover from ransomware. That was the whole use case for getting it - determining what it would take if we had to recover, how much it would cost us, and what our man-hours would be. That's what justified this whole project. This project is just to see how it works. If we it, then we'll expand on it.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing for HPE Zerto Software is that for what you get, it's pretty cheap. We did 50 VMs as a trial case, and it was a small portion of our overall budget.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before selecting HPE Zerto Software, I considered Commvault. We are a Commvault customer and use it for backups. We also have the HP StoreEver tape system, a very large tape system. That was the chosen ransomware protection. When you're going for tape, you're in a difficult situation. Tapes work, but if you're having to rebuild from that, it's going to take literal weeks. We needed something faster.
What other advice do I have?
The advice I would give to other organizations considering HPE Zerto Software is to think about your use case. For us, it didn't make sense until we had the hardware and the desire in place. We had a solution that was workable, but the cost was justified when the business decided they needed a more guaranteed recovery time.
A little bit better communication stood out in my evaluation process of HPE Zerto Software. We tried to get more information from the sales team and we had to do a lot of research on our own. The implementation has been very good though.
I rate HPE Zerto Software ten out of ten.
Good data security and business continuity through reliable data vaulting
What is our primary use case?
My main use cases for HPE Zerto Software are related to zero-gap security, as our boss likes to sleep at night and doesn't want us to lose any data if an attack happens; that is our goal.
How has it helped my organization?
The solution has helped us secure our data.
HPE Zerto Software benefits my organization as it checks the signatures of the data, then compares that against the data coming in, saving the good copy in the vault. If anything goes wrong, we can retrieve the data from the vault, which is key for our business continuity.
What is most valuable?
The features of HPE Zerto Software that I prefer the most are the backup and the vault.
It helps with business continuity.
The near-synchronous replication is excellent. It's very important for us. Reducing data loss is critical during unforeseen events.
We've been able to easily retrieve data, and it has been working great.
It's positively impacted our RPOs and RTOs in trial scenarios. It was pretty quick. We also use Cohesity and were able to restore the data from Cohesity. We haven't compared the two; we think they will both work well.
It's enhanced our DR capabilities. While not related to time, it does provide greater recovery capabilities alongside Cohesity.
We are using a Cyber Vault solution as an immutable backup. We're always looking for the good quality of backup within the vault.
What needs improvement?
HPE Zerto Software can be improved, however, I will have my other team members address that question. The ease of setup can be improved in the next release of HPE Zerto Software. The initial setup of the DNS environments and backup environment took us time to implement, and if the process was wizard-driven, that would have been really beneficial.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using HPE Zerto Software for approximately six months now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not experienced any downtime, crashes, or performance issues with HPE Zerto Software that I'm aware of.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
HPE Zerto Software scales effectively with the growing needs of our organization, particularly along with GreenLake capabilities. We provisioned HPE Zerto Software considering our future needs, and so far, there has been no need to expand, so I cannot comment on that experience yet.
How are customer service and support?
I would evaluate customer service and technical support for HPE Zerto Software as spot on. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate customer service and technical support a nine. I gave them this rating since, when we had an issue during installation, the first version of support wasn't successful. The second attempt was very successful.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to adopting HPE Zerto Software, I was using Cohesity to address similar needs, up to an extent.
How was the initial setup?
The solution's implementation took some time for us to complete, and we already have HPE GreenLake and Nimble, which is called Alletra now. Implementing within that infrastructure took some time initially, but afterwards, it was pretty seamless.
What was our ROI?
I will see a return on investment with HPE Zerto Software in the future. If a ransomware attack happens, instead of paying money to get the data unlocked. Investing in implementing HPE Zerto Software will save us a lot of money.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing, setup cost, and licensing of HPE Zerto Software can be made simpler in a usage-based sense.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before selecting HPE Zerto Software, we considered Cohesity, but it is not a true air-gap measure. We were already part of HPE GreenLake, making it easier to go with HPE Zerto Software for better performance and throughput. In the evaluation process, the true air-gap backup solution of HPE Zerto Software positively stood out, while my team could better highlight the negatives.
What other advice do I have?
I would advise another organization considering HPE Zerto Software to go ahead and have that solution in place to protect their company from data loss and ransomware attacks.
On a scale of one to ten, I rate HPE Zerto Software overall as a ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Automated recovery functions enable seamless disaster recovery tests
What is our primary use case?
My main use case for HPE Zerto Software is disaster recovery.
How has it helped my organization?
By implementing HPE Zerto Software, my organization was trying to solve the challenge of achieving multi-zone coverage, as we have two different data centers, and the SRM we had wasn't very useful without HPE Zerto Software.
It allows us to do DR tests seamelssly at this point.
What is most valuable?
I appreciate the automated recovery functions of HPE Zerto Software the most. These features benefit my organization by allowing us to perform DR tests seamlessly; before, it was a check-the-box process with hope it worked.
It's extremely easy to use with one of the shortest setups I've ever done.
The solution has not saved me time in data recovery situations due to ransomware or other causes at this company, but it did at the previous company. At a previous company, HPE Zerto Software helped to reduce downtime, as we were able to fail over to our secondary data center in about 30 minutes for 400 plus VMs.
HPE Zerto Software has impacted my RTOs and RPOs. Its recovery speed compares to other disaster recovery solutions I've used as being hours instead of months. I don't have current examples because we haven't finished the implementation at the current company.
The solution has helped to reduce my organization's DR testing, as it's now a one-day window instead of a few-week activity. IT is always extremely busy, so any saved time from HPE Zerto Software is easily respent on value-add tasks.
My impressions of HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication are excellent, as we typically see targets under five seconds, which no one else is achieving. The near-synchronous replication of HPE Zerto Software is extremely important to my organization because we run different point-of-sale systems, and if we lose transactions, it would take days, if not be impossible, to recover from.
What needs improvement?
I want to hear more about the Commvault integration that was announced, as I don't know what's included in that one yet.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using HPE Zerto Software for about a year at the current company, and overall, I have five years of experience with it from my previous job.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I haven't experienced any downtime, crashes, or performance issues. I would assess the stability and reliability of HPE Zerto Software as excellent.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
HPE Zerto Software scales with the growing needs of my organization very easily, and we haven't hit any limitations.
I have not expanded usage yet. We probably will in about a year and a half.
How are customer service and support?
We haven't had to use customer service and technical support much yet. I would rate customer service and technical support as a ten out of ten since we haven't had to use it.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before adopting HPE Zerto Software, I wasn't really using another solution to address similar needs; we had some SRM set up, but it was very limited.
How was the initial setup?
My experience deploying HPE Zerto Software has been easy.
What was our ROI?
I have not calculated an ROI with HPE Zerto Software at this time.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing for HPE Zerto Software seemed reasonable, though the quoting for the Cyber Vault was probably the stickiest part, as it had to be tailored to our size of company. That's probably going to get better as time goes on for other customers.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Since I had past experience, HPE Zerto Software was the de facto option I considered before selecting it.
What other advice do I have?
In my previous role, when we evaluated HPE Zerto Software, the evaluation was sufficient to prove it worked; we set up critical systems and were able to test fail them over in hours, and it speaks for itself.
We are deploying HPE Zerto Software's Cyber Vault in this new deployment; we haven't used it yet. The type of solution I am using is HPE Zerto Software's Cyber Vault, as it comes. The capabilities that were most important when choosing a Cyber Vault solution were the offline copy, which was the real decision-maker when we brought it up for management.
On a scale of one to ten, I rate HPE Zerto Software a ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Failover testing ensures seamless operation with swift recovery
What is our primary use case?
We have two data centers, so we use HPE Zerto Software for site recovery. We fail over, run out of one data center, then we fail back and run out of the other, and we do failover testing.
How has it helped my organization?
We were using VMC on AWS with VMware replication. The challenge was it had a five-minute RTO and we wanted something faster. At the time, HPE Zerto Software didn't support VMC on AWS, which was actually our first choice. Then we had a mandate to build a new data center.
We wanted both physical locations, so we went that direction and decided to go with HPE Zerto Software. We wanted something that we could fail over quickly, have minimal recovery times, and make sure that we could come up quickly. We use the move feature in HPE Zerto Software probably the most, moving from data center to data center. It allows us to meet with our compliance regulations to test our DR site and run in our DR site with seamless operation.
We've proven a few times that we can fail over within a very short window, and it works very well. Our RTO with HPE Zerto Software is less than five seconds. It is extremely important. We work in the financial industry, and being able to fail over and know that we can bring that server up within a very short window and that the data is going to be accurate means we're not having to go back and rework a day's worth of data. That's what we wanted and that's what we got.
What is most valuable?
The failover test option in HPE Zerto Software is the most valuable at this point since we can validate that things are going to come up, that the data is valid, and then tear it back down without having to interrupt the users.
It's extremely easy to use HPE Zerto Software.
Our first failover test went flawlessly. We failed over our entire data center, approximately 200 VMs in half an hour - very fast. This last fast failover, we ran into a couple of hiccups. Working with support, we found we need to do more testing in between our main failovers since we've actually had an 11% failure rate of things not coming up. They advised us to test, validate, and then resync if needed, so we're learning from it.
We haven't experienced any ransomware yet with HPE Zerto Software. Regarding time savings, it has definitely been beneficial. Once we've got it set up and can manage it, it really is a time saver.
We haven't had a situation where we've had to use it to reduce downtime. Comparing it to our other failover solution, the speed is notable. We used to schedule an eight-hour day to do this, and now we're scheduling a half an hour, which saves us significant time on weekends.
Regarding RTOs and RPOs with HPE Zerto Software, we can look at it and know exactly where every VPG is regarding recovery time. The speed to move it over and bring it up is extremely efficient for us.
The solution has helped reduce our organization's DR testing. Previously, we would isolate our DR and test in a defined bubble just to validate the data was there and users could access it. Now we can fail it over to our backup data center and actively run there. We can fail it back and run both locations in an active-active mode with HPE Zerto Software, which we hadn't been able to do before.
It has allowed us to trim the team down and focus on other tasks without constantly worrying about disaster recovery. We know it's there and we can validate and test it through our monthly procedures.
What needs improvement?
When we did our test this year with HPE Zerto Software, we had some failures that we weren't expecting. The challenge was realizing there was data corruption, and fortunately we found it before we committed the failover, so we could fail back. We could resync it, and we weren't in an actual disaster. If there's any way to validate that data on the recovery site without having to manually go in and do failover testing and try to validate, that would be a feature that would be really nice. We're not sure why we had some corruption, however, we did the resync and it seemed to bring it back up and fix the problem. That's probably the biggest area I'd ask about - some way of validating the recovery sites in an automated fashion.
For how long have I used the solution?
We started using HPE Zerto Software in April last year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We haven't had any crashes or performance issues with HPE Zerto Software, except trying to figure out why we had some data corruption. Overall, it seems to be functioning very well. Support's biggest recommendation was that we just need to do more failover testing and validate.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have not expanded our usage of HPE Zerto Software.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support I received from HPE Zerto Software has been very good. I haven't had any complaints about the support we receive. I would rate it a nine or ten. When I ask them a question, they give me a very quick response.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were using SRM before selecting HPE Zerto Software. From attending different conferences, HPE Zerto Software was where I wanted to get to, however, at the time, our disaster recovery site wasn't allowing for it. Comparing SRM to HPE Zerto Software, I really prefer using HPE Zerto Software. It's easier to group, set up. I can see really quickly what things are doing and I feel a lot more comfortable that things are working.
How was the initial setup?
Setup was extremely fast, and we had the system up and running within a couple of days. Our biggest hold-up was getting the network configured correctly. For training, we were able to take some online courses that got us up to speed very quickly.
What about the implementation team?
During the setup for HPE Zerto Software, we were working with a technician who could walk us through it and that worked really well for us.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Since we just got HPE Zerto Software, our pricing didn't seem too high. Our renewal is next year.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We used SRM before adopting HPE Zerto Software to address similar needs.
What other advice do I have?
My rating for HPE Zerto Software would be ten out of ten.
