Not the best platform for interactive learning
What do you like best about the product?
I did like the simplicity and ease of access that TurningPoint offers - my university uses TurningPoint quite often, so most students have the app already downloaded, and the platform is easily accessible.
What do you dislike about the product?
I really am not a fan of TurningPoint - while I liked how easy it is to access the platform, I found that it was fairly ineffective as a interactive platform, since there are far too few question types and not much room for creativity. I also found that it was very difficult to use TurningPoint for attendance, since there's no way to link attendance outcomes in TurningPoint to the attendance grade system we use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I originally wanted to use TurningPoint to track attendance in the class I teach with weekly attendance questions. I intended to make the questions relevant to the course material, so I could gauge learning and interest as well as attendance.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Overall, I don't recommend TurningPoint if you are looking for a way to gauge attendance or promote class interaction. I found that the question options available for polling/quizzes were too simplistic even for attendance, and I imagine that for those looking for more of an interactive learning platform, TurningPoint would work even less well.
Amazing Polling Software
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to have your audience know that they can honestly provide anonymous feedback during a live presentation
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing that I currently dislike
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
being able to survey and get real time data from large groups of people
TurningPoint as a Tool For Engagement - But $$ if Exporting Data
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about TurningPoint is the ability to use PowerPoint slides to convert them into questions I pose to students in class. It's interactive and easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is additional licensing, at a cost, that is required to use TurningPoint Cloud if you want to view/export participant results. Years ago that was not the case. Negative change for sure from the user end!!
You can use it without licensing to get aggregate results, but you are not able to export results or run any participant-based reports without either your Turning Account being licensed or every participant's Turning Account being licensed/registered.
You can use it without licensing to get aggregate results, but you are not able to export results or run any participant-based reports without either your Turning Account being licensed or every participant's Turning Account being licensed/registered.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use TurningPoint for interactive question answering in class. Students are more engaged in class when we stop to do these questions.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look into all polling options before selecting TurningPoint as your solution. It is a great too, but has limitations that require paying for licensing if you wish to move beyond those limitations. That is after you have purchased all of the equipment from TurningPoint to carry out the polling.
Worked for my needs
What do you like best about the product?
I like that the clickers are no longer mandatory and can be substituted with a phone.
What do you dislike about the product?
Interface didn’t always update properly when students were trying to answer questions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mass polling
Great for Controlled Environments
What do you like best about the product?
Echo automates the recording and delivery process. The dashboards are easy to use and their LTIs work well.
What do you dislike about the product?
The first problem is that lecture recording does not have a way to alert the speaker if their microphone is not being picked up. Without audio the recording is useless. Once a decent recording is loaded there are very minimal editing options.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Echo360 allows us to increase class size and still provide lectures to off-campus students. It also makes lecture recording and LMS delivery more feasible for faculty of all technical abilities.
Turning point
What do you like best about the product?
Easy use. Turning Point is a great piece of technology that allows instructors to quickly assess student knowledge in large classes. Very easy software to use!
What do you dislike about the product?
Cost. To be able to use this, these do come at a pretty hefty cost. I am not sure to the actual numbers, but hopefully nobody is actually buying these outright, but their workplace will consider it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
If you need to quickly assess a rather large number of students and have it be graded for you, Turning Point clickers/remotes are a great way to go. Pretty expensive but institutions should have enough cash to dish out for them.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Urge your department, school, or college to buy these because they do cost a ton.
Participant Engagement Solution
What do you like best about the product?
The live analytics for presentations and participant engagement and record maintenance.
What do you dislike about the product?
The number of steps required for set up is tedious but for integrations purposes its good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The higher Education problem solver for all of our requirements.
It's great when it works
What do you like best about the product?
It's very easy to make polling slides on PC or Mac. My clients like the keypads vs attendees using their phones.
What do you dislike about the product?
I found that TP doesn't always function correctly depending on the type of PowerPoint update. TP will work great, but after a small Microsoft update to PowerPoint, TP will not display graphs correctly, or the clock animation doesn't work. I use rental laptops, so I don't have control over the version of PowerPoint updates. MOST of the time, the system works.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It gets the audience engaged, and the system also provides feedback (via evaluations) on presenters. I know who is being impactful and relevant. It creates a better experience for the attendees, which is the ultimate goal.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Be mindful of PowerPoint updates
Good, but has gotten more expensive
What do you like best about the product?
We used Turning Point for years, but recently switched to iClicker (formerly called Reef Polling). I liked the straightforward usability of Turning Point. Before smartphones became ubiquitous, their physical clickers were reliable and cheap. I liked the ability to integrate with our learning management system automatically.
What do you dislike about the product?
Like many companies Turning Point has moved away from sales and toward leasing a license for their product. The cost for this license became too high for our students and we were forced to change over to Reef Polling, now called iClicker.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used Turning Point to keep attendance, maintain student interest in large lectures, and easily score in-class quizzes. I mainly used the multiple choice option, but did occasionally use some of the more exotic options for answers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Explore all the options. There may be something better that works for you at your price point.
Turning Point is a great anonymous survey tool
What do you like best about the product?
I like that the clickers can be used in meetings without having to identify participants.
What do you dislike about the product?
With the newest version, the clickers each need to be licensed, and the license only lasts a year. Otherwise, you cannot collect and analyze the responses in certain ways (i.e. per user).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use the TurningPoint system to survey clientele during meetings.
