Streamline video processing with seamless integration and high-quality encoding

  • November 15, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case of Mux is as a middleman to process video. They handle the encoding, storage, and serving of videos. We use their built-in video player which includes analytics. We are currently using the platform to integrate it with our product.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of Mux include the ease of integration and the high-quality video encoding. Using Mux saves a lot of development time. If we were to build our own encoding and all of this, it would have taken probably a year from our development. Mux reduced this by a lot.

What needs improvement?

The documentation could be improved, specifically keeping it updated to match what the product is now. Currently, there is a lack of information about customizing the video player.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Mux for the last year, around February until now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Mux is very stable, and we have never experienced any downtime. The app responds in good time and is pretty fast.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Mux handles a lot of the heavy lifting such as storage and serving. However, the main concern is the pricing once we reach a large number of users, which at that point might not be a viable option.

How are customer service and support?

There has been no need to communicate with technical support for Mux so far.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Initially, we were using a basic setup with impact encoding but found it difficult to meet requirements. We explored solutions from AWS and GCP but found them complicated and time-consuming to implement. We eventually chose Mux because it provided a simpler installation process.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process was rated a seven out of ten since of some challenges with documentation during updates. Overall, it was not too difficult.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment was done in-house by a small team of four. No third-party assistance was used.

What was our ROI?

By using Mux, we have saved a lot of development time, which is very valuable.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Currently, we are using the development tier, which is free. It has limitations such as only being able to use ten-second videos, but it is sufficient for our current needs.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We explored solutions from AWS, GCP, and other third parties before choosing Mux.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Mux a nine out of ten. I recommend new users to install it and get started as it has a lot of community support that makes it easy to resolve any issues. I would definitely recommend Mux to others.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Create robust APIs with helpful context package but needs to be faster

  • October 23, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use Mux for creating backend APIs. I work with Golang and use the Genesys framework and GorillaMux for API creation.

What is most valuable?

In Mux, there is a context package that helps delay responses for third-party integrations. Using different features, we create robust APIs with GorillaMux.

What needs improvement?

There isn't anything specific that could be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Mux for 2.8 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I initially used Mux and then switched to the GIN framework since it is faster. However, during my use of Mux, stability wasn't a significant issue.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I initially used Jumex Mux and then switched to the GIN framework which I find faster.

How was the initial setup?

GorillaMux syntax is very easy and not complex. If you're new to Golang or GorillaMux, you can start creating APIs within a month.

What other advice do I have?

Mux is better when using the GOM function or inbuilt object-relational mapping. It should be better than the GIN framework.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

The best video platform I've used, feels tailored for developers

  • May 19, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
After working with several other video platforms, moving to Mux felt great. Mux provided the best documentation, ease of implementation, value for money, and performance in delivery and rendering.
What do you dislike about the product?
Haven't found anything that I dislike about mux.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Uploading and rendering ~1K new videos daily, storing 300K videos, and serving content to ~5000 users daily. Mux made writing the end-to-end solution simple and more cost-effective than any I've checked.

What do you like best about the product?
Especially Mux Data is giving us some very intuitive insights. Furthermore, setting up livestream endpoints through Mux Video works like a charm.
What do you dislike about the product?
Mux Data doesn't provide a lot of insights in the performance of prerolls, only on video playback itself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're getting immediate insights in the quality of our streaming through Mux Data. With Mux Video we're providing several brands within our company with livestream endpoints.

What do you like best about the product?
The API is extordinarily productive. We know video, and it's always amazing how simple Mux makes things.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish some of Mux's features were opt-in. For some use cases, like user-generated content, you don't need all Mux has to offer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mux can take almost any video and make it available to the web / mobile platform with a simple API.

Product fails at the most critical times

  • March 29, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Offers some innovative products that are not found with other platforms.
What do you dislike about the product?
- Annual Contracts are prepaid and if you don't use your MONTHLY quota, you lose all that you have paid for. Contract is annual, quota is monthly.
- Support is very poor and requires personal connections with the engineers in order to save the video when going offline.
- Billing center is poorly written and sometimes deletes products we have without any warning.
- Product is in beta forever and never reaches production stage.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using video streaming as the output of our product, in order to add RTMP support for our clients on the platform.

Modern Video Platform

  • March 03, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Mux is everything you could want in a dev-centric, modern platform for video distribution: instant transcode to the right format for the user, analytics & live streaming. You can even order up a cute little GIF for your previews.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you need professional control over your video distribution there is little to dislike about Mux.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Video is hard - you really don't want to do it yourself. We use Mux to add video capabilties to our content platform Sanity.io.

The easiest platform for managing video experiences

  • March 02, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Abstracts all of the complexity of video streaming so that developers can focus on user experience.

Reporting is very intuitive and allows for segmentation by custom fields.

Took us less than a day to get a proof of concept up and running.

Love that storage is by minute and not by input file size.
What do you dislike about the product?
Seeing how your current Mux usage is affecting your bill is not the most intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Storing video assets, streaming those assets to end-user mobile devices, tracking video watch time and engagement, generating static and animated thumbnails.
