Saves time - very easy share and receive files online - collaboration is helpful

  • September 28, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Things I really like about it:

- It is cloud based
- It makes it very easy to share selections of your library - either through 'share links' or by setting up a 'portal' (like a mini website).
- Through 'drop links' you can receive photos directly into the system from anywhere (life saver for me - who receives photography from many locations)
- Had a branding style guide component - very helpful
- This allows me to share brand assets, but also to curate approved photo collections
- It is collaborative - can designate different permissions for different users. Has tools for commenting etc.
- It takes quite a bit of thought - but you can design your own system of filters and tags (taxonomy) based on what your organization needs to search for.
- There is a 'Canto Connector' that integrates into Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign (so as a designer I don't have to first download the photo(s) in order to try them out in these design programs). Saves a lot of time.
- It can be used for all kinds of files. So we have an extensive 'audio library' now, and are building a 'video library' - all using the established taxonomy.
- They have good support - an account manager who follows up and meets with you to address any concerns/feature requests
What do you dislike about the product?
While it is fairly intuitive, there are aspects (of the portals for example) that need to be explained to a new user - this can be time consuming. I have been frustrated that new features are sometimes expensive paid add-ons, even when they were discussed as 'coming' during the research process (features I thought would be included with upcoming releases). As much as possible, try to envision future features you will need and consider that in your contract discussions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problem of many sources: We have photography coming in from many locations in North America - the upload links allow files to be added directly to the systems (rather than coming in a number of ways). I receive files faster, without the need to download and upload.
Problem of accessibility: Important assets are now accessible to a wider number of people internally through our branding portal. Portals in general allow the sharing of assets easily, and allow greater ease of collaboration.

Not suitable for graphic designers

  • September 17, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
All of our assets can be stored in one place.
What do you dislike about the product?
We were told that the product was suitable for designers, but it has caused nothing but headaches. The Canto Connector extension is unreliable in the Adobe products and works sometimes, but not others. If you have more than one designer working on projects, the other designers cannot see the files with links and when the Canto Connector decides not to work, support suggests deleting the folder that holds all of the photos. Once you do that, all of you documents lose all of their links. At that point it is easier to keep the photos on the computer storage.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's easy to tag photos with key words that people may search for.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do not use if you are a designer storing assets.

Great Value DAM

  • September 17, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ability to easily create custom fields and build a DAM that worked with our existing workflows.
What do you dislike about the product?
The migration process was not as painless as I would have liked, however that could have had to do more with our previous DAM set up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Able to create custom fields that are applied as meta data to the actual asset. Our users find Canto easier to navigate than our previous DAM, and we are able to better organize our assets within this platform.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you understand your existing DAM setup prior to migration, and consider what changes you want to make to your existing set up and how that will affect the migration process.

Plenty of features, can get overwhelming.

  • September 17, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best features (there are many!) are keyword tagging, file conversion and downsize options on download, and albums features (files can exist in more place than one).

Integration with outside contributors, contractors, and agencies is great and very simple.

Filtered searches/filter are also very handy when looking for one specific file type.
What do you dislike about the product?
Canto can be clunky to work with, especially if you don't have the time to sit down and watch onboarding content or video tutorials on how to navigate the program. The number of features is EXTENSIVE, but they can get overwhelming to work with on the day to day.

Maintaining all the files and keeping everything up to date is also imperative for Canto to work its best, which can get time-consuming. This, however, is not much different to other asset management sites out there, though.

Multiple iterations of a design or photo file get repetitive when scrolling—A feature to identify those very similar files, then group + collapse them together would be an improvement in the scrolling experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main need we've solved with canto is one for extensive and complex organizational tools, especially for a very large media library. Keyword tagging lets assets "exist" under various categories, which is great. File conversion is also very useful when a specific file type is needed.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I think Canto is best for companies with extensive asset libraries with files that fall under various and different categories. For example, you might want to categorize a single image of a blue porcelain bowl under "bowls" "blue items" and "porcelain goods". If a need for vast organization does not exist, Canto might be overcomplicated.

Great for asset being contributed from many places and storage of them.

  • September 17, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Assets are accessible by those who need to be dealing with them. Assets, which include photography, video, presentation, and branding, can be added by everyone within our organization. Being able to have contributions in an organized, secure, and fast way has allowed us to utilize that material for reaching our target audience with general ease and directness. Through having all our data assets in one place we have been able to communicate our brand in mission within our organization effectively and consistently. This has also allowed for us to reference the same file without wondering who has the most recently edited content.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is sometimes difficult to navigate through out the various sections of the software. Integrating with presentation software has not been seamless. When I want to save as a asset to reopen and edit is not real easy on the go. When I first started using Canto my account was mistakenly crossed with another brand page, which made it difficult to get to the content that was relevant to me, that seems to have disappeared since.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Previously asset storage was in many different places and was shared using many different platforms, but now it is shared through one software making it incredibly easy to access and use for our business material. This has meant that providing the products and material that we need for our audience is actually being met because we can access the material fast and easy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Evaluate how important it is to be able to access and use assets in a easy manner. If having files stored in one place with access anywhere and the ability to get them added to your database from anywhere is what you want this is very useful. This will give you a good look as to whether Canto is going to be able to meet your needs.

Canto helps our whole team get more done

  • September 16, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Canto provides a way to organize and find photos. We have leveraged the templating system to save significant time in designing, printing and shpping hundreds of banners each year. Canto's public portal provide great ways to distribute photos to staff and non staff.
What do you dislike about the product?
As the photo portals get larger, they start to become less easy to navigate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Photo finding time has been reduced from hours to about a 30 mins. No more looking through 100s of folders to find photos. The tamplating system has saved the equalivent of severl full time staff's work each year.

Mind-blowing digital assets management

  • September 16, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy to use. UI is well built. Canto team is always available to help if difficulties. AI for tagging is really effective
What do you dislike about the product?
API can be hard to use if you don't have an expert development team.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Canto is a great tool to manage all our assets in the company. The graphic team uses it to organize and store all our images which were a mess before Canto. Our RD department uses it to share all documentation between our different teams and our customer. Instead of having our images located to multiple locations, having it stored into a Dam is a big win for our company! On the downside, the API usage is kinda hard to make it work correctly. Unless you have a dedicated expert development team, it can be hard to use.

Overall we are very happy with the software and experience. The support team is really helpful and care about their customers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Any companies that want to have a better organization of their files should consider using Canto. It helps in so many ways and will enhance your work. Our company had so many assets we could not use them properly. I have no bad comments about Canto except their API libraries.

What do you like best about the product?
The user interface is clear but concise, the yellow call to action really helps as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
the downside, is that some of the icons at the top seem a little unfamiliar and so you tend to not want to click them, maybe it's the design or maybe they aren't clear enough.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
it helps with finding and sharing documents and images faster

Great bang for your buck.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's easy-to-use and offers a ton of features such as different sharing capabilities, granular search functions, and drop and drop version control. You can easily bulk add tags and meta data which is key to our file organization and upload process. The also uses a folder system that we can easily upload packaging artwork files to. The price is great too and is cheaper than any of the other bigger DAM solutions available.
What do you dislike about the product?
The folder / album system takes a little getting used to. I would like the ability to share a folder via a link too. The Canto connector into our project management tool, inMotion account never seemed to work quite right either
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
File storage, file sharing, and version control. Offers a ton more features and also allows to host us downloaded files for our multiple websites that can be easily updated across multiple sites
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for something intuitive and simple with tons of features choose Canto!

What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it was to catalog and tag images. I also liked how easy it was for people outside our orginization to send us photos.
What do you dislike about the product?
I did not like that its did not accept text files.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A very messy photo library.
