Developing product with excellent assistance

  • November 10, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Duro is convenient for managing the product tree within my organisation. Their integration with Onshape (whilst initially fraught with bugs) now functions very well and minimises the data entry aspect of my job. Duro is extremely responsive to support requests and I appreciate the level and speed of communication on certain issues. I like how I can access duro from a range of devices, including my mobile phone for easy change order review.
What do you dislike about the product?
Duro is still in its early stages so it lacks certain features that my team desires. However, they are working on solutions to many of these feature requests and keep us updated on their timelines. I appreciate the responsiveness of the software development team - something you don't really get with larger, more established PLM software. Duro initially had a really hard time getting the solidworks plugin to work, which was quite frustrating. This has now been rectified after working closely with us to identify the root causes and supply the product we need.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Duro is helping us organise and maintain our product architecture. It is easy to submit change orders and keep track of revisions. I appreciate how this product has integrated into my workflow. For example, we wish to have better raw material tracking and cost rolling up in duro. Currently, duro is only able to collect price data per item. This doesn't account for a case where we purchase raw material, and then pay a manufacturing cost. Duro is working to be able to roll-up these two separate costs into one single part cost.

What do you like best about the product?
Product breakdown with the graphical user interface showing most relevant data in 1 page.
What do you dislike about the product?
probably the import from vendor feature limitations. it is good where it can find the parts, but manual entry is tedious.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing our product breakdown structure of the platform.

Switching from Duro to an alternative PLM software would save me 1 day a week of manual data entry.

What do you like best about the product?
The ECO process is acceptable once you know what you are doing.
What do you dislike about the product?
- Solidworks CAD integration is not functional, our team has been unable to login without crashing solidworks for months. Some people have recently been able to get passed login, but no-one has managed to get to the release process in Solidworks. BOM import consistently generates duplicate parts (especially fasteners).

- Lack of CAD integration means that the only real way to work with Duro is to manually build the EBOM and MBOM in duro after the design work is complete, which is very time consuming and means there is lag between a design being completed and mass and cost being visible to high level management.

- Sourcing is nonsensical for custom parts. It is currently not possible to add sales tax or currency to prices in Duro, which causes issues when the data is synced to other purchasing tools.

- Web interface is full of unresolved bugs. The most painful over the last couple of months have been Duro forcing a refresh and deleting all unsaved work at 5 - 10 min intervals, and the insertion of ".00" if prices are typed in in less than 2 seconds. Some of these bugs were reported a year ago and are yet to be fixed.

- Web interterface is laggy. I spend hours each week waiting for Duro to save or validate each manually entered field.

- Part categories cannot be customisated and have some semi-duplicated categories such as pins (465) and dowels (456), bolts (411) and fasteners (457)

The result of the above issues is that I spend a day a week entering data manually into Duro, dealing with duplicate parts, and slowly entering sourcing information that I know is of little value to the purchasing department.

I see very few use cases where Duro is the right tool for the job - for management of complex products, Duro is inadequate and significant time must be spent solving problems and limitations relating to Duro rather than working on the development of the product. For simpler applications where the scale is more appropriate for Duros capability (e.g. a product that is an assembly of COTS parts only), an excel spreadsheet would be a compelling alternative.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having Duro is better than having no PLM software.

Overall, Duro has been a positive addition!

What do you like best about the product?
Throughout my time using Duro, there have been several aspects that I have found beneficial to use:
1) Its user interface is easy to grasp and navigate.
2) The integration with electronic manufacturers makes generating part numbers in a BoM extremely quick & easy but also provides a range of suppliers that might be more suitable.
3) The system in place ensures no duplication of parts is ever possible.
4) Technical support is easily accessible by either email or Duro's online forum.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some areas in which I would appreciate Durolabs improving on are:
1) Having the option to provide costings in different currencies. Currently, only one price in USD is permitted, which can ultimately give a slight inaccuracy to what a product's final cost is.
2) Not having the import from vendor feature for all mechanical parts.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Duro provides a suitable and efficient PLM system used daily to create, maintain and update many BoM's at any given time.

Duro review: It's very slow, filling out information is full of bugs, the plugins don't work for SW.

What do you like best about the product?
I cannot think of an upside, apart from other people use it for tracking purposes. I personally find this barely functions as it's still based on manual input because the plugin for Soldiworks doesn't work.
What do you dislike about the product?
The search function is very slow, filling out sourcing info is buggy, it constantly wants to reload the site and remove all my progress. the plugin for solidworks doesn't work so I have to manually input everything/upload everything.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Duro has not solved any problems for me. It has only created more, I now have to manually sync parts and spend weeks of time manually inputting data in fields that often glitch out.

Some good aspects but also very tedious at times

What do you like best about the product?
- useful centralised data source for finding file sources, integration with approvalmax/ion useful when they work.
- favorites is a useful feature
- haven't tried any competitors software
What do you dislike about the product?
- favorites are hard to find - would rather not have to search for favorites. Can we just have a button in the UI called "favorites"?
- Integration with solidworks 2019 doesnt work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
- product lifecycle management
- revisioning/version tracking
- BOM creation

Flexible Product from a Responsive Team

  • September 20, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how Duro can be used in different ways, depending on the company's preferences. It can be used in either a model/digital-thread centric focus, or used as an indepedent documentation repository.
What do you dislike about the product?
The integrations with design software (Solidworks, Altium, etc.) still have kinks that need to be worked out. But notable progress is being made, and the team at Duro doesn't have a habit of over promising.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Duro is solving the problem of storing design, documentation, and procedural information in inconsistent places and formats across a single company. Duro helps its users standardize numbering and revision schemes, alligning both technical and non-technical personnel on where to find the correct design document that you're looking for.

Great potential, Very Responsive Team

What do you like best about the product?
I have been using Duro for a couple of months now. It is very quick to get started and very easy to use. For me personally, the best part about Duro is its support team. They are very responsive and act super quickly to resolve the issue we are experiencing or any feature request that could help us operate better.
What do you dislike about the product?
Duro plugin for SolidWorks is a great feature to have, but sometimes things get buggy. I am heavy Solidworks user, so if the integration can be polished smoother, it has great potential to make engineering's daily tasks a lot easier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main problem Duro is solving for us is providing a single point of truth for the entire organization. The BOM and ECO process that Duro offer is very robust and has great version control.

User-Friendly

What do you like best about the product?
Duro's platform is intuitive and clean-cut. There is an extent of customizability that ensures user success. It contains the basics for product development management and release of the BOM. The best feature is surely how attentive the user support is by the Duro Team; they are responsive and worked with our team to understand the platforms' capabilities and future add-ons.
What do you dislike about the product?
We were unable to utilize the McMaster part sync. However, I believe that aspect is only being further developed for future ease of use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Duro has added competition to the marketplace with their platform. It was a great investment for our start-up company to familiarize ourselves with the user interface.
