    Education Management

Amust have to manage your fleet of Apple devices

  • May 09, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's immediate application of a profile, remote wipe and lock.
What do you dislike about the product?
The search feature and forward/back paging
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Jamf Pro is an essential tool for managing Apple devices. It helps you update software, keep things secure, and control devices remotely. It's reliable and there's jamf nation to help you out when you need it. It's my go-to choice for keeping iPads and MacBooks Apple devices running smoothly and securely.

Robust system, great customer service

What do you like best about the product?
Jamf Pro makes it really easy for us to manage our iPads and MacBooks. The app catalog for MacBooks is especially helpful, so we don't have to package software as often. Being able to customize the way our devices enroll is also helpful. It integrates with Google, which means that our students and staff can have the same login information across the board. The more we learn about its capabilities, the more fine tuned we can be with our management, but even with our basic knowledge at the beginning we could set it up well enough to get things started. The best thing about Jamf, though, is the customer service team. They are diligent and helpful and quick to either find you a solution or find the right person to get you a solution.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some features that they are lacking or are behind other MDMs in developing. It seems like between them and Mosyle, it's always a race to see who is going to implement what first and better. Mosyle was first to implement an app catalog and admin privilege requests, and their user interface looks a lot more user friendly than Jamf. Some aspects in Jamf, like configuration profiles, it can be difficult to know what settings mean without having a deep working knowledge of Apple's infrastructure. It would be nice if settings had a description of "enabled means this" and "disabled means this".
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It keeps our device management and asset database all in one place. We have one pane of glass for seeing our fleet of devices.

I don't know of any other product that does a better job at managing Apple devices

What do you like best about the product?
At the moment Zero-Touch deployment, no need for IT to image and configure. We can ship directly to the end user, and it will be configured and set up upon the user's initial login.
What do you dislike about the product?
with zero-touch deployment, we cannot asset tag these devices ourselves. We are trying to set up a workflow with a vendor to warehouse our stock and tag devices before shipping.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Zero-touch deployment, we have reduced the time it takes to set up and configure a device before shipping.

What do you like best about the product?
easy to use interface. Integration with All Major platforms like intune. Jamf Nation is a great community ready to help each other out with issues as they arise.
What do you dislike about the product?
device count can get high and out of hand leading to high costs if you don't unmanaged/remove unused devices.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
applying config profiles and managing devices in our org. we can push policies and updates instantly and it saves our team a ton of time.

Jamf Pro provides excellent customer support and has helped us improve our overall productivity.

What do you like best about the product?
The platforms are feature rich, easy to use and are well designed while not overly cluttered with too many widgets. The main Jamf Pro dashboard is easy to customize and tailor to our specific needs. Reports are packed with powerful and yet simplified data in a visual structure that is easy to read and understand for even the lay person.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have found that when looking for information it can be a bit of a fact finding mission, even though the documentation is really well written, it can be hard to locate it. The web generated reports are as beautifully crafted as they are, it is hard to utilize for offline reporting needed for presenting to board members. Since a lot of these wonderful reports are in web only format, possible relevant data for export seem to be very limited in scope. This also leaves us relying on third party tools and utilizing more user and financial resources to generate similar yet far less accurate reports.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Since most of the organization is remote, remote administration is a critical feature to support managing of our devices remotely. It allows us to securely access and configure devices from a centralized location, reducing the need for on-site visits or manual intervention.
Endpoint security is an importan issue and Jamf Pro ensures that all devices are protected against malware and other cyber threats, preventing unauthorized access and data breaches.
Identity management integration with Okta and Google provides users with an authenticated login to access our varying corporate infrastructure and prevents unauthorized users from accessing sensitive information.

Zero-touch deployment is the most valuable feature because many organizations have employees working from home

  • April 30, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for internal compliance and inventory management.

How has it helped my organization?

Jamf Pro is highly compatible with Mac computers, iPads, and iPhones. It supports various IP configurations and is frequently used with tools like Jira and networks like the Apple Business Network.

What is most valuable?

Zero-touch deployment is the most valuable feature because many organizations have employees working from home. This feature allows devices to be configured and ready for use without needing physical handling by IT staff, making it important for remote work environments.

What needs improvement?

Jamf Pro provides inventory management capabilities. While it can gather inventory data for third-party applications, it cannot automatically deploy specific versions to every Mac or device in the inventory.

The solution could also add an Identity Manager feature.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Jamf Pro as a reseller for three years, and we use V11.2 of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The Jamf Pro application has had issues with stability, but it is currently performing well. There are instances of server latency. The service kept on loading, and nothing happened on the website.

I rate the solution’s stability an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Over 20 users are using this solution. It is suitable for enterprise customers.

I rate the solution’s scalability an eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is good, and they have technical knowledge, but they tend to be less responsive. There have been instances where they take up to two to four hours, or sometimes until the next day, to respond to critical issues.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy.

The deployment process for Jamf Pro involves several steps, from initial preparation to completion. First, it's crucial to assess the client's specific needs and advantages of the product. Finalizing terms and ensuring compliance with security standards may take a week or two. Once the client accepts the terms, license procurement usually takes a day or two.

After obtaining the license, the installation and training process begins. This includes configuring Jamf Pro according to the client's requirements and providing necessary training. Depending on the complexity of the setup and any additional requirements, such as software upgrades, this phase may take around a week or possibly longer.

Considering the various stages involved, the deployment process can take approximately a month or more to complete.

I rate the initial setup a nine out of ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product pricing is expensive.

I rate the product’s pricing a ten out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

Jamf Pro offers firewall encryption and Palo Alto integration. The most important feature is the ability for customers to update their applications without manually deploying updates across platforms. Jamf Pro includes App Installers, a feature that automatically updates and deploys applications. This automation is crucial for maintaining up-to-date software. Additionally, Zero-Touch Deployment is significant because it eliminates the need for manual integration, simplifying the setup process. Proactive customer support is also an essential feature.

Many customers rely on third-party applications for various tasks. For instance, they often use Microsoft Defender to protect against external threats. We deploy such applications using Jamf Pro through packages and configuration profiles to efficiently enforce compliance standards across all users remotely.

All documentation available from Jamf Pro is accessible for customers to learn from.

Jamf Pro supports Apple devices. If you intend to use Genesys or upload feature-rich applications, you should use Apple devices.

Unlike many other MDM solutions, it excels in communicating with the App Store. It uses robust communication protocols, including IP and server connections, and leverages Apple services for user management. This high level of connectivity ensures that most devices can communicate with the Jamf server, enhancing the overall user experience. For instance, it integrates with Active Directory, providing a solid solution for organizations leveraging this technology

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure
