Jamf Pro has been a great way to manage our fleet of Mac & iOS devices

  • August 20, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jamf Pro has a powerful feature set that we've been able to use to fully manage our Mac & iOS devices. It's easy to use, intuitive, and well designed. Their onboarding and support process was great and I really appreciate their commitment to helping us deploy the MDM in our environment. They also offer day-one support for Apple's operating systems, which is fantastic.
What do you dislike about the product?
There can be a steep learning curve to learning to use Jamf, but that would be the case with any MDM. There are also a few features I'd like to see them add, but that may be more of a limitation with the frameworks they have available to then than anything else.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Deploying Macs and iOS devices in our environment has gone from an incredibly tedious and detail-intensive task to one that's much simpler and quicker. Once a device is enrolled in the MDM and configured via Jamf Pro, it quickly grabs all the policies and apps that we've provisioned for it. Remote management has gotten much easier as well, as we can now simply deploy apps and settings to our devices remotely without needing to be physically present at the machine.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you use macOS and iOS devices in your environment, Jamf Pro will be a great fit for you.

Great product and company

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use for managing Macs in an enterprise environment. Even with issues that come up, you still have the flexibility to ask questions to the user community, Jamf Nation. This user community is second to none. If you still cannot find an answer to your problem, the technical support team is great to work with and work hard to solve your problem. In the time I have been using Jamf Pro, I have only had to elevate my issues to them twice. Both were resolved within a day.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of flexibility in granularity of the configuration profiles. If there were more options for granularity, some problems would be easier to solve. The only way to accomplish this is to upload a self created profile. This can accidentally get over written with an additional items to the profile. This has caused problems for us in the past.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing Macs and collecting information about Macs. We have realized that we have been able to enrich user experience due to the fact that we have been able to make functionality available to the user that use to require a help desk ticket. An example of this is making managed software available through Self Service. A benefit that we realized is that we were able to speed up deployment time for Mac computers by streamlining the configuration process by leveraging Jamf Pro. We did this by not only using Jamf Pro to complete the configuration as well as complete the installation of the required software as well. Another benefit is that we have been able to leverage Self Service as a means to have help desk staff complete corrective actions, such as rebinding to Active Directory, via scripts or policies. This makes relative repetitive tasks easier to execute.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get involved in the Jamf Nation Community. They are one of the best resources to use while working with setting up and maintaining your Jamf Instance. As long as your organization implements the new versions of macOS quickly, consider the cloud based version, as it removes a lot of headaches in managing the server and upgrading the JSS.

JAMF Pro Review

What do you like best about the product?
The community around JAMF specifically JAMF Nation is incredibly helpful and what sets JAMF pro apart from other MDM solutions for Mac.
What do you dislike about the product?
Jamf does not have a remote tool that can be used across networks. JAMF remote only works when on the same network as the target machine.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My company is using JAMF to quickly provision computers and deploy applications. There are many opportunities to automate simple tasks with JAMF

Just scratching the Surface

What do you like best about the product?
Dashboard view of what is going on with our company machines. I can see who is current, who needs updates. A one-stop-shop for where we are on Leases, Apple Care, and Maintenance.
What do you dislike about the product?
You can get burried in the process. Where some things are, where others are. The user interface is coming along but areas are still clunky. The onboarding is intense. It's amazing what you can do but it takes a while to get there. It would be great if there was a more basic option.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
System Management. Before Jamf our network was the Wild West. The ability to create system Admin access to every machine. Tracking system specs, and pushing out and blocking updates. The ability to deploy quickly. I love not having to manually install all the software packages for a new employee or reinstall.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Dive in! Use it to its strengths. It is daunting to set up but so rewarding.

What do you like best about the product?
Help IT Admin to mange apple devices very easy. Jamfcloud is one of the best.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish Jamf Pro can have more price options like other products, such as pay per device, per month instead of annually and a block of devices at the moment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
All devices under management. Auto deployment -> save time.

The powerful MDM and binary capabilities as well as management organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
Only one thing so far. The Source Change notice when editing Configuration Profiles which then requires changing the Profile name.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Off-Net MDM and Patching.

4 years of using Jamf and still feel like a newbie

What do you like best about the product?
We have been able to do the basics since day one and it has provided more information on our devices than we collected in the past.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would like to mark devices as out of commission (to access historical data) without having to remove it from Jamf entirely.
Love self-service, but we're a small group in our Tech department and can't always keep up with updates. And no fault of Jamf, but Adobe products used to be a great offering and now it is simpler to just have people manage their own products through Creative Cloud.
Sometimes we've had issues when using Jamf to reprovision devices. End up in a loop that won't let us get past the mdm screen.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it to push out printers and software - and for tracking our Apple devices (mostly Macbooks, some iPads). We have loaner laptops that students will keep well beyond the return period and I love that we can easily lock down the computers and force them to check in with us. Using pre-stage enrollment has made life a breeze for all our new devices.

Jamf has been overall a great experience

What do you like best about the product?
I like that the user interface has been mostly pleasant.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like how some info in Jamf is fairly limited. For example, search criteria for certificates. Its pretty much useless. When I view the certificate inventory that is on a computer theres a decent amount of info, but the criteria doesn't take advantage of this. Also integrating with some bigger brands like Okta, there isn't really any documentation for setting this up. More specifically setting up Okta to be used as an enrollment authentication method.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've been able to mostly manage our Mac environment with Jamf Pro. Theres been some things that needed to be created outside of Jamf's functionality. The main benefits are the capability to manage our Macs and have them be in compliance within our standards

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to control the macs by pushing software, configuration profiles and the ability to lock and wipe macs remotely
What do you dislike about the product?
wish there were more detailed step by step documents for building policies
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
pushing new software to all our macs in the company. Keeping the macs up to date.

Jamf Pro Review

  • August 20, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the blue dots indicating there are new features. I'm not in the system as much as I use to be since everything is setup. The self-service app for macOS has made my life a little bit easier with deploying printers to our users. I also like Jamf's friendly customer service if I ever needed help. I like how I can drill down into a user's device to see printers attached, model, most everything I need to know about their computer system. I'm sure if I used Jamf every day I would have more greatness to talk about, but we have simple needs and currently, Jamf meets them.
What do you dislike about the product?
With macOS after you erase a computer, it does not install a copy of macOS. Erasing iOS is no problem! Also, sometimes when I run policy through self-service the error message just seems too generic. Looking through the logs doesn't tell me much other than it failed. Not very helpful at all. :-). I feel like I still have to touch the devices before they get deployed. For macOS, the apps that are pre-installed don't seem to be managed, the same thing for iOS. So, I end up having to erase the device before its even deployed. So in that aspect, I don't feel its very Zero-Touch for me.

Issues I had in the past was when I was loading information into the user's machine: asset tag, department, email, etc. After talking to support discovered 1 column had to be entered before the system actually filled in the information. That's fine, but it would have been nice to know it was a requirement.

If the devices are going to another division, I setup a different pre-enrollment for them and add those devices to that enrollment. In my case (and I can be doing this wrong) I have to delete the device and then it will pick up its "new" enrollment profile. In my mind, if I move the device out of its first pre-enrollment, I erase the device it should pick up the new pre-enrollment profile.

One thing I wish would be included with Jamf is one-click compliance templates. What Kandji is doing: https://www.kandji.io/product#security

As my organization's Cyber Security Analyst, we would like to know if are devices are in proper compliance. We work with the Center for Internet Security closely so this would be a nice addy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main reason we purchased Jamf Pro was for inventory purposes on our macOS and iOS devices. What we had used previously was Meraki and it SUCKED! Now I use Jamf Pro for pushing out policies/software, printers. I'm learning to do FileVault. I wish I knew more about scripting but am learning slowly. Multi-Device Deployment - wonderful
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend Jamf to other users because they are a reliable company, they are affordable. For what we use it for Jamf works meets the needs of my organization. The user interface is palatable, settings are easy to access if you need to renew tokens for VPP, which is now under Apple School (or whatever they call it now)... :-). And the Automated Device Enrollment. I'm glad my organization went with Jamf Pro it has saved me a lot of time. Especially with deploying multiple devices for a division, or redeploying (even though it has some kinks). With any software I expect hiccups, but we can always trudge through them, finding a solution.
