SingleStore is easy to set up and use. Processes data quickly. Tutorial/Demo links are easy to follow.Used into load data from s3 to database tables.
What do you dislike about the product?
Detailed pipeline log in UI itself is not available. But it is available in the database.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It will be helpful if a large amount of data needs to be loaded into a database for analysis or reporting purposes.

For large-scale, data-intensive, always-on, data problems, I don't think you can beat SingleStore.

What do you like best about the product?
It is a "Ferrari" of a database. The native pipeline / ingestion is ultra-fast. I have worked with Oracle RDB, MySQL, IBM DB2.0, and PostGRES; nothing comes close to SingleStore for throughput for data ingestion.

Writing vanilla / brute force queries also exceeded my expectations. With any distributed data you can ruin performance with cross-node joins, so with well planned partitioning and key design I expect performance would be lightning fast. That said, simplistic, brute-force query performance was very impressive highlighting the power of the SQL Engine.

The horizontal scaling / Cluster Management is very nice, by far the easiest cluster management I've experienced.
What do you dislike about the product?
I worry about the cost of intermittent work-loads. It seems like the cluster is always on, burning credits at full gas. So if work-loads are intermittent, the cost of idle time would be very high.

Like any database, you'll get the best performance if you play to it's strengths, so in order to achieve that peak performance, you need to understand the impact a distributed (clustered) databases will have on your data architecture and data design. Which is not too difficult, just a reminder to avoid putting square pegs in round holes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
If you are dealing with huge volume and need a highly available database with superb performance, pick SingleStore - It is excellent at what it does -- Ingestion throughput, overall speed of database, and the ease of horizontal scaling.

I am freelance solution architect so I wanted to experiment to have some first-hand knowledge of the platform.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you fall into the large-scale, data-intensive, always-on, managed service problem space, I don't think you can beat SingleStore. Credible Performance - OLTP and OLAP Database in One Shot

  • June 12, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
My first experience with SingleStore was exceptional. I didn't need any documents or someone to guide me on how to use SingleStore. The user interface was very friendly and easy to navigate. Scaling up and down the cluster was very fast. I would commend SingleStore team on how they were able to lower network latency moving data across different cloud providers and were able to achieve credible performance.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would have loved SingleStore to logically group tables, views, and similar objects in a schema adopting the Database >> Schema >> Table logical structure.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SingleStore is bringing Transactional and Analytical datastore into one database. This feature has helped my clients in reducing costs and providing near real-time analytics.

What do you like best about the product?
We can handle large dataset analysis. Singlestore provides us with the capability to do so at incredible speed. I can confidently say that organizations should move to SingleStore database. Also provides the facility for heterogeneous databases connectivity.
What do you dislike about the product?
I had some issues with configuration and docker that took too much time to create an environment, but customer support helped me through it. But it's really great after that.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SingleStore’s unified database facilitates fast-paced analytics for organizations looking to embrace diverse data and accelerate their innovations. SingleStore is currently the only database in the industry that addresses both analytical and transactional workloads for the multi-cloud world.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
SingleStore should have some certifications like Microsoft Azure, IBM, etc so that developers can be able able to pass that and upgrade their profile also.

Exciting and Easy to Use Product

  • June 03, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The user interface was intuitive and very easy to use. I found it very easy to get up and running quickly. This product takes a lot of the complexity out of the system setup. Much easy to work with than a similar product like Hadoop with Hive.
What do you dislike about the product?
I had issues getting the cluster up and running. I was getting API errors during setup and also had the cluster creation hang a couple times. I had to delete and retry creating the cluster until it worked. Just need to work the bugs out. All minor issues that I was able to work around.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SingleStore is a good solution for your Data Warehouses. It is fast when importing data and querying. No indexes required! You can choose how much processing power to setup for your cluster which is very helpful.

Exceptionally fast system with minimal changes to existing workflow or development staff training

  • June 03, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
1) Blazing fast speed performance .Improvements in query times, between 30 to 100 times considering almost zero changes in workflow, or training new developer skills. Rather than managing the cluster ourself, it helps us offload the work of keeping the cluster optimum. 2)Easy to Deploy anywhere with minimal workflow changes or developer upskilling
3) Easy of Integrate with Standard APIs/tools/ Kafka for direct streaming to table setup
4) Efficient Row storage and column storage features
What do you dislike about the product?
No dislikes as such really at this point of time and amount of usage. Guess it might need some time to figure out how to most effectively use all the features and the system design to its best.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Improvements in query times, between 30 to 100 times considering almost zero changes in workflow, or training new developer skills. Rather than managing the cluster ourself, it helps us offload the work of keeping the cluster optimum. Its a suitable option for replacement of our existing db system.

Amazing Experience - Really great product and support

  • May 25, 2022

What do you like best about the product?
I really enjoyed using the SingleStore website! I found the tutorial and UI to be very clean and easy to use. The tutorial was helpful as well to some extent. The blogs/tutorials you guys write I think are instrumental in helping new users use your platform and follow along. More on this in another question. In terms of product, I liked being able to visualize the different parts of the node aggregation and seeing how the data was being inserted as well as its speed. I think being able to visualize the nodes working together was helpful in seeing the data being moved from one location to another. I think this is helpful in understanding where the costs are going as well, and what steps I can take in order to reduce cost while not hurting performance.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not too much - I disliked the tutorials/documentation surrounding the work (to some extent). They were slightly different than what I actually needed to do (according to the Upwork specs). I think tutorials are a vital way to onboard new people to the platform. Making sure that each step is perfectly clear and identical (or near identical) to what needs to be done is important since having the first-impression onboarding process be as frictionless as possible will really set a positive tone for using your service more. As a developer, clear documentation is everything!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I think investing in good architectures and solutions early on is critical. Once certain infrastructure and processes are in place, it becomes more difficult to switch down the line.

SingleStore is a great solution to help build data-intensive, cloud-based applications.

  • May 24, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
My experience was good. The concept of a super-fast, cloud-native ACID database is of course very attractive, and I think the implementation is adequate for the most part.

The innovations brought to the table with SingleStore's Codegen Architecture and Universal Storage. I experimented with the sample databases provided, and the queries were indeed very fast and responsive, even when I deliberately made then very awkard and convoluted. Setting up the AWS cluster was also very easy and straight-forward. The support team was also cordial and helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
My main concern is with the documentation and user experience. The docs and articles are a bit outdated and the examples provided do not work as intended. For example, the process to set up a data pipeline described here (https://developers.singlestore.com/blog/how-to-load-100-billion-rows-of-data-ultrafast/?utm_source=upwork&utm_medium=psm&utm_campaign=7014x000002ltsdqak&utm_content=fastapps) does not work. Besides, many pages still refer to SingleStore as MemSQL.

I also found it a bit hard to locate the access point for SingleStore Studio.

Query errors could be more explicit. When I input an invalid query, the error message is some variant of (ERROR 1064 ER_PARSE_ERROR: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near), which is a bit cryptic and not very helpful.

If I could, I'd allow more SQL flavours to be used, as not everyone is familiar with MySQL's peculiarities. I also would open source as many key database developments as possible, to make new discoveries more accesible to the world.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The need for SingleStore DB system arises whenever you would need a way to quickly setup and manage a huge database (more than 1B rows). I think the product correctly combines the advantages of ACID guarantees with cloud-based scalability

I'd definetly consider using SingleStore if I had to build a data-intensive web application.

Running things on the cloud can be a little tricky and expenses can pile up if you're not careful. However, doing it correctly will get rid of a lot of headaches in SWE and make your product better for developers and consumers.
