I am a BIG fan of MicroStrategy as a BI Solution
What do you like best about the product?
I am mostly a fan of the Visual Insight aspect to the product, and the ability to connect to my end users directly.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like to have more of a touch-point with the Vendor directly as a business owner of the product within my organization. I feel like I have to jump through hoops sometimes to make connections.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solving problems as a BI Solution to remove the logic of ad-hoc user access to a data source.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Look to the Visual Insight aspect to the product and data visualization before making a decision!
Great for reporting, improving for analytics
What do you like best about the product?
I like the layout and the intelligent cube feature.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the amount of effort required to produce and maintain dashboard projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are putting data in the hands of end users faster than ever before.
Dynamic and Powerful Tool
What do you like best about the product?
The robustness of the infrastructure. The ability to connect to multiple data sources and combine the data on the fly. Data distribution is very easy with a lot of control on the personalization of the data.
What do you dislike about the product?
The development time that it takes to build something is too long. Also, integrating Visual Insight report with existing IS Server report is not 100% stable and not always works.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With MicroStrategy as an enterprise reporting tool, we support many different business areas. Finance, Treasury, Accounting, Member Service, Transaction Processing, Analytics and Reporting team.
Currently we are implementing MS Dynamics CRM and its reporting capabilities are very limited. We are relying on MicroStrategy to report against CRM replicated database to support the lead management system and fitness scheduling applications in CRM online.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a tool that gives you a lot of control with the reporting data allowing to manipulate it in many different ways easily. Lots of features for end users including subscriptions to different targets. Personalization is very complete. The architecture is very robust to support large volumes of data.
Love MicroStrategy and it's getting better.
What do you like best about the product?
The new data prep tools, the granular security and the pretty visualizations. Mobile is also awesome.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a lot of overhead (too many appserver and webserver components)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Quantifying sales and supply chain. Also creating read/write mobile apps that operationalize some processes.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try to use the Desktop tool and roll it out to your users to help prototype Enterprise Dashboards.
14 years of experience
What do you like best about the product?
The total suite, extremely scaleable and really suppory single version of the truth.
What do you dislike about the product?
Itcould be easier when it comes to create dashboards that fits all types of screens.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Transaction services, mobile and the ability to scale one report fr.o.m. One to hundreds of users whith only changing the acl's on folders and underlaying objects.
Great Product, Not as Nimble as Tableau
What do you like best about the product?
It is very east to setup / install. The mobile application is decent and works well on phones and tablets. The reports are very straight forward. Reports are very easily created, and Microstrategy is a powerful tool. From the security side, it is easy to setup as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
Migrations between Development and QA can be difficult. It can be hard to resolve conflicts between the environments. Administration can be simple but can also be difficult depending on the scale of the business. Performance can be an issue depending on the amount of data that is being produced in the report. Setting up the mobile server is straightforward, but maintaining it can be quite difficult when you have multiple web servers (making sure that changes are reflected on all servers).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dashboards is the best part of Microstrategy. The interactive component of Microstrategy makes it well worth it. As an administrator, enterprise manager was the most important thing for me. This is an area that Microstrategy does excel. The health check system that Microstrategy includes does need a lot of work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take a look at Tableau as well. Compare both side by side.
Beginner High-level user
What do you like best about the product?
I find the advanced customization features very helpful and make my reports more efficient.
What do you dislike about the product?
Very minor issue but the excel export is not an editable friendly version - but we can use the CSV export option instead.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solving for reporting discrepancies and high-level reporting for external use. The benefit is being able to reduce the time and resources it takes to have this information pulled.
Microstrategy is easy....how your company organizes the data may not be!
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use. There are multiple ways to do the same thing (navigation bar, starburst menu, or main screen). Easy to find existing reports if company organizes it well. User's don't have to worry about relationships between data sets if the admin sets up the system well.
What do you dislike about the product?
Data may be hard to find but it greatly depends on how your company decides to organize it. Sometimes a little unstable (online version) but most issues are due to your company's server capabilities. Some reports take a VERY LONG time to run but once again, most of that due to how much data the system has in it PLUS the server capability.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to easily run reports from data that is coming from various sources within the company.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
This software is comparable to other Report Writers...Crystal Reports, Cognos Impromptu, etc. in that a user can easily create reports from data that is coming from various company wide applications and then either format and print OR export to Excel.
Powerful reporting tool for medium size corporation
What do you like best about the product?
Microstrategy provides the functionality to create templated or ad hoc reports for your organization. We have 15 different locations that each have their own cost centers, and Microstrategy allows each business unit to easily pull reports.
What do you dislike about the product?
The thing I do not like is that there is little training offered to new users. Although the interface is generally easy, there are some areas that may not be intuitive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our accounting teams are able to coordinate and speak with one another with ease. This also makes it easier for us to report our financials to both our board of directors and executive team.

What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of options on data visualization features and integration with Geographical Information Systems (such as Google maps or Bing maps). I've heard that Micro Strategy 10 addresses these shortcomings.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Micro Strategy tools across various business verticals in our enterprise. This range from senior executive reporting (through dash board reporting ) to supporting revenue and product sales forecasting processes. We also use micro Strategy to finalize payouts by tracking sales at an agent level through organizational hierarchy. Micro Strategy's ability to reporting on large volume of data (millions of record) enables us to study market trend by assessing various factors of our business growth.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I've worked on several BI reporting platforms. Of all Micro Strategy is the best in terms of performance
Micro Strategy VI is also a good Web-based tool for providing self-service visualization creation capabilities to business users. It is probably best in the market,
