Excellent software development lifecycle for large enterprises or citizen developer

  • July 09, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Outsystems help software development faster with powerful security, robustness, and scalability. I can develop web and mobile applications with the same platform with zero learning curve to learn another language or platform to build the same.

It is a low-code but it is a very powerful tool to build mobile and web applications and can create a custom code library using extensions and reuse some of the built-in functions and community components using forge.

What I like the most is there's a lot of tutorials, documentation, online courses, and webinars to learn the platform and use that to gain certifications.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cross-platform is somewhat not yet supported like the Service Studio and the platforms itself that it needs windows to run it perfectly. I'm well aware that it is a low-code development and I know that some of my coding skills are decreasing.

Some of the features of version 10 are not included in version 11 like the SEO site rules, reactive and mobile analytics, but I think there's a pending development on this and I know that there's a lot of room for improvement.

The job community is somewhat very low to find and certifications are pricey and the pool of Outsystems developer is not that huge compared to other popular programming platforms.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The productivity of our team is increased drastically and we only focus on the business logic problems instead of fixing a program bug that takes time to finish. All our new applications are built on top of Outsystems and we are planning to convert some of the legacy systems to Outsystems to improve user-experience and maintainability to resolve some hardware incompatibility.

We are innovating some of our workflows to benefit our business group and the whole organization.

I think the main benefit of Outsystems to our organization is the ability to adapt to changing environments and structures, that our applications can handle easily without worrying about the maintainability of the project due to its low-code environment, everyone our team can maintain and enhance the system in no time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There's a huge benefit when using Outsystems for SMEs like a cost for software development and business workflows.

Easy deployment using Outsystems using a low code development platforms

  • July 08, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The most helpful part of Outsystems is that they have a low code development platforms that can be used by any employees with no coding experience who wants to build applications for their own business processes, And also it is easy to deploy an application quickly. When the application has a bug or something to fix using OutSystems platforms. The benefit I realize using this platform is that deploying fixes in OutSystems is easy and quick.
What do you dislike about the product?
Developers may become platform-dependent and not all companies can afford using OutSystems. This means going to a different company can be hard because you need to refresh your memory on the semantics of other programming languages. Here are the disadvantages of using the platform:

1. It does not appeal to the hobbyist due to the way OS sells its products. I think this is an overlooked point.

2. The visual approach is wonderful but forces the developer also to take good care of the naming, comments, etc. Without it, it can be surprisingly hard to read code from other developers.

3. I would love to see the OS visual approach to other things and programming languages. I think this is a missed opportunity for OS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

It took me a while to get used to this new way of developing. I used to be a java-dev. It also took me some time to get used to the service studio interface.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
the introduction of outsystems in our company, also came with the introduction of agile-scrum working. Outsystems allows us to be able to deliver value to the bussiness after every iteration.

Learning OutSystems is a breeze!

  • May 30, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
OutSystems eliminates most of the complexities that we need to handle when starting a new application. Straight out of the box, we can get an app running in a matter of minutes that isn't "Hello World!".

The learning journey is my favourite part of OutSystems. There is a ton of useful learning resources available free on the OutSystems website which can very quickly bring you up to speed, and the community is really responsive. I've had no trouble getting fresh developers initiated with this product as they can be left alone to follow the tutorials for 1-2 weeks and with some on job coaching on the best coding practices, they're good to go.
What do you dislike about the product?
As OutSystems does not delete tables and columns in case there is a need to roll back a solution, there sometimes can be a mismatch between the logical table/column name and the physical names when developers delete and re-add the same table/column. It can become a challenge when manually migrating data around, as the namings may be messed up between environments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are trying to build up our internal capabilities and OutSystems allows us to quickly build up the team, while allowing us the flexibility to bolster the team with interns given the ease of learning OutSystems
Recommendations to others considering the product:
OutSystems provides a free community environment which is ready to use. Go through the lessons and try it out yourself. If you've hit any roadblocks, take it up to the community who can likely provide you some guidance.

Outsystems - the right way

  • April 14, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
In three words... TIME TO MARKET

Outsystems allows to drastically reduce the elapsed time between the idea and the go-live version of a product.

Specially since version 10 of the platform, we are capable of delivering full web and mobile applications, saving even more implementation time and removing the complexity of needing several different IDEs to achieve what outsystems teams can do only by using the platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
The licensing cost is, sometimes, a barrier for some potential clients that are not familiarized with the full potential of the platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Cutting development time.

To understand that the client's needs can be fulfilled faster then ever.

To break the old idea that developing is only accessible to a few groups of people that love to code and that it can be fun and challenging for almost everyone that enjoys creating something new, from a technological perspective.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Give it a try! It will change your business.

What do you like best about the product?
II have 9+ Years of experience on .NET platform as a web developer but when I joined the OutSystems network and thrilled about the speed of development then I decided to move on a new world called "Low-Code".and I am enjoying working in OutSystems platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
Library now is growing but initial phases were difficult to integrate the third-party systems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working on BPM lifecycle to provide a quick digital solution using Low-Code platform

For anybody, very easy to use.

  • November 21, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I liked to see templates that could easily be used and fit many different scenarios.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't really like that sections of the elements where your own code can be placed are very tight.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It taught me that using outsystems is a joy, and that anyone has a very little or no programming background in making sensitive and cool look-alike webapps / mobile apps. As a low code item, businesses that try to gain an advantage in this competitive field will be very helpful. Although the material does not suit what the current version can do during tutorial and instructions (the material may be old / outdated and does not meet the capability of the current outsystem model), it is still very easy to complete.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take the time and go through all the training materials offered by external systems.

Refactor Oracle Apex applications into Outsystems

  • October 30, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
In developer studio I really like the intuitive way of creating a datamodel. I also like how quickly you can make validations. I used to do this in PL/SQL which is doable, but Outsystems really helps me with making complex validations simple with visualizing it. I am used to drawing business logic before I start coding. In Iutsystems I can draw and I am done, I do not have to transform the drawing into syntax afterwards.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am originally an Oracle developer and I am used to work from repositories (SVN/Git) which allows me do deploy delta's. My experience in Outsystems is that a single change is always a full deployement. I would like to deploy delta deployments as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am rebuilding Oracle Apex web applications into Outsystems web applications. With Outsystems I can prototype all the time with me end user. So my end result is better than the original Apex application. I can't wait to use the Experience Builder as UX is apart from Outsystems at the moment in my team. With this way I prototype even faster than I do now.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Start building a platform strategy, don't just do a PoC.
