A stable product that has a responsive support team and enables organizations to develop applications easily

  • November 09, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

The solution can be used to develop apps, websites, and core applications. We are working for an insurance company on an application to digitize hundreds of documents. We also work for a bank on an application to manage time and time sheets.

What is most valuable?

It is easy to develop things. It is much easier to develop applications with the product’s IDE.

What needs improvement?

OutSystems is creating a new platform on the cloud called ODC. The new version could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for about five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is quite stable. It depends on the way we use it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Our clients are medium and large enterprises.

How are customer service and support?

My team contacts support. The support responds quite well.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used some local platforms before.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. Normally, the solution is cloud-based, but it depends on the clients. For the setup of the platform, we must have a contract and license from OutSystems. The setup takes one to three weeks.

What was our ROI?

The return on investment is difficult to measure, but the time to market is much faster.

What other advice do I have?

OutSystems has a lot of traction in Portugal. We are studying Mendix and Appian to see if they could be adequate in some cases. Some clients don't have the capacity to support OutSystems, or they might be using other tools. We want to adapt to other platforms and tools. Overall, I rate the product an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

What do you like best about the product?
The best apartof Outsystems is setting development pattern for the developer that any can make Web,Mobile,Services and pwa applications.

Now same developer can develop any above type of application with the inbuild governance their infrastructure.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like to see code pull request like Github when any developer is pushing the code so we can review it based on project and then after approve can be pushed to different enviornment or branches.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
1. Ease for developers to develop any application like web, mobile or PWA.
2. Development for iphone and andriod in one code base.
3. Easy to publish and make builds for andriod and iphones.
4. In Build offline capability for the mobile application.
5. In Build respository for mobile application projectwise with barcode to send to the users.
6. Auto update feature of the application for the users.
7. Setting up the developement standards for the furture developers.

Great Platform, depending on the price

  • November 09, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Great platform, easy to learn and use. We've been able to produce almost 100 in-house applications with very few team members.
What do you dislike about the product?
Price, a 500% increase from one year to the next with less than 30 days notice before renewal. Was told they would just walk away from a legal contract, does not give a customer any level of comfort.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With the ability to rapidly develop applications and intergrate them with other non-outsystems applications, it has proven to be a very benificial tool.

OutSystems has led to transformational changes within our organization.

  • November 08, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The breadth of capabilities has allowed us to drive to our digital transformation goals much more quickly than anticipated. This has led to digitalized and automated workflows leading to improved quality, ease fo use leading to an exceptional user experience, and efficiencies resulting in subsantial annual dollar savings. We are also able to complete projects up to 10x faster than traditional software development based on simplified development, ease of integrations with other systems, and eas of implementation with the automated DevOps capabilities. We continue to increase our end users and the frequency of use across all applicaions.
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not see any downsides or dislikes other than there is an ivestment that needs to be made to realize the benefits we have recieved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to develop software solutions better, faster, and cheaper resulting in an exceptional user experience. We have also demonstrated the ability to more easily develop automated workflows with simple integrations to third party systems.

Good Front End, Good Back End, Mediocre Integrations, Very Predatory Pricing Model

  • November 08, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The product is excellent for UI dev, and the platform servers are rock solid - great even. Excellent rapid prototyping tool with a very solid TSM program to enable standup.
What do you dislike about the product?
Everything between the UI (excellent) and platform server (solid product) is do-it-yourself nonsense getting into varying degrees of vaporware. We figured it out, but the tooling has a big gap for actual enterprise development. The changes in pricing are predatory bordering on theft. It was nearly overpriced even before the huge rate hikes. They tout it as "anyone can code" but when you bring them problems they say "you should be better at coding" instead of putting guard rails and real quality gates into the product. It's on you to make it work not them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Reactive Web application development

Boost for DEV

  • November 08, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Outsystems platform has helped deliver code quickly and shortened DEV cycles. There are a number of easy-to-use features that have helped us.
What do you dislike about the product?
Outsystems builds change object identification properties in some cases (especially for mobile objects) making it harder for QA automation tools to execute.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Faster code development benefits the organization with shorter time to market

Outsystems has enabled us to increase our speed to market significantly.

  • November 08, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Outsystems is a very complete and robust solution to low code creation. It is simple to learn, has a unified deployment sequence, connects well to APIs and external DBs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Their licensing model has been inconsistent, and has increased in price 45% every 2-3 years, which to us has become very hard to justify.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We create a myriad of internal tools that help our company's department work together. Outsytems makes this easy by having Single Sign on and persistent login options to create intranet/portal apps.

Enables users to develop applications quickly and has a responsive and helpful technical support team

  • October 20, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

Our clients mainly use the solution for business process automation, workflow automation, and application development. They also use the tool to build a layer between their existing ERPs, like SAP and Salesforce, and the applications they use for business functions, like finance and HR. It is a bridging solution between the ERP and other applications.

What is most valuable?

The time to market is quite good. We can quickly develop an application using the tool. OutSystems is developed using .NET and Java. We can easily find technical resources who have worked on .NET and Java and leverage their previous knowledge to develop OutSystems applications. It can also be used for application development. If an end-user does not want to use the solution after two to three years, OutSystems sends the source code and the applications to the end-user. There is no dependency. It’s one of the major factors I found quite good in OutSystems.

What needs improvement?

The installation is a bit tedious.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been partners with the product for the last two years. We are dealing with the latest version of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is very stable. I rate the stability a nine to nine and a half out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have around 60 clients in India. We have more than 35 people, including 20 developers, three to four senior developers, and one or two architects in our technical team. I rate the scalability a nine out of ten. The tool is very scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support team is responsive and helpful.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The installation is a bit tedious, but it can be done. If we use the cloud solution, we can immediately leverage AWS and use it. Customizing the product according to a customer’s server requirements could take five to six working days.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The customers have to pay for licensing and application development. Once they buy the product, they must also engage a technical team to develop applications until their internal team is certified and can develop applications on its own. OutSystems takes care of the maintenance. It is included in the licensing agreement. The solution is expensive. I rate the product’s cost a two or three out of ten. Not everyone can afford OutSystems.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have evaluated Mendix as an alternative to OutSystems.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend the product to others. Overall, I rate the tool a nine out of ten.
