Centralized collections improve collaboration with remote login capabilities and helpful support

  • December 26, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case for Postman is mostly for unit testing of the APIs. Additionally, I have developed scripts for end-to-end testing of the APIs.

What is most valuable?

One of the biggest advantages of Postman is its user-base approach. All collections created in Postman are not maintained locally and are instead maintained on the server, making it easy for me to continue work from anywhere if I log in with the same credentials. Any team member can continue the work as nothing is maintained locally.

What needs improvement?

One of the features that is missing in Postman is reporting; it's very basic. If they could enhance it and provide a browser-based dashboard view, it would be beneficial.

Postman is limited to request and response kind of validation. If they can enhance it to have a database kind of validation like we have in ReadyAPI, it would be better. This feature would allow the response to be validated in the database as well.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Postman for more than three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is open-source and does the work required for day-to-day API testing activities. I would rate it ten out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Postman does not have database validation available, which affects its scalability. If this option were available, I would rate it ten out of ten. Currently, I would say it is around seven or eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

There is a lot of support available through forums and user groups, which has been sufficient for me. I hardly reach out to the vendor for support because the forums provide the required help.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

To start with, Postman is a good option, but ReadyAPI is a commercial tool with lots of built-in features. If cost isn't a concern, ReadyAPI is better, however, if it is, Postman is still a viable choice.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Postman is very simple. There is an option for both browser-based and desktop applications. The desktop application requires installation, which is straightforward, while the browser option is also available and easy to use.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Postman is open-source, so the cost is minimal compared to commercial platforms.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have a partnership with ReadyAPI but I am a Postman user.

What other advice do I have?

If you compare Postman and ReadyAPI, Postman is a very good starting option. However, ReadyAPI, being a commercial tool, offers additional features. If cost is not a concern, ReadyAPI is preferred.

Nonetheless, Postman offers ample features for API testing at no cost.

Overall, I would rate Postman as eight out of ten. I can recommend this solution to other users.

What is our primary use case?

I use Postman to test REST APIs. I work with Node.js and create or modify multiple endpoints, and I use Postman to verify if the endpoints work. Additionally, I use Postman to test other endpoints, like public endpoints.

What is most valuable?

In Postman, we have collections that contain multiple endpoints that I can test. I can use multiple environments, which allows me to create environment variables for each endpoint.

What needs improvement?

Something that could be better is the inclusion of another type of test, for example, end-to-end tests. It would be beneficial to expand functionality with additional testing options.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Postman for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Postman is pretty stable. I have not experienced any issues or downtimes.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for Postman is very simple.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price is low, making it a reasonable price for the product.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Postman is currently the leader.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend Postman for all business types.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

Time-saving API testing with automated coding and easy-to-learn interface

  • October 11, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Postman for API testing, and I am also using it for training purposes.

How has it helped my organization?

I have found that our time is significantly saved in terms of debugging and writing down the code manually as Postman allows us to add the code with the help of test and assertions, eliminating the need to write code ourselves.

What is most valuable?

The user interface is very easy to learn and use, and it is a lightweight application. It's also an open-source tool for API testing. One of the best features is that you really don't need to be an expert in any programming language because Postman can generate the codes automatically for you.

What needs improvement?

Postman needs to improve its support for a lot of integrations. Additionally, browser add-ins or extensions would be helpful.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Postman for quite a while, perhaps for the past seven or eight years.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy and simple.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Being an open-source tool, it's a lightweight tool that I would prioritize as number one.

What other advice do I have?

I would prefer Postman as my priority since it's an open-source tool, simple to install and use. You don't need to be a programming expert to use it, which presents several advantages.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

Enhancing efficiency with robust API testing and integration potential

  • October 10, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We have been using Postman primarily for API automation.

How has it helped my organization?

API automation is crucial because every change in an API could have a significant impact. Postman has greatly reduced the effort required in testing APIs, thus enhancing our efficiency.

What is most valuable?

Postman is easy to use and enables us to test all possible API testing scenarios. It is economical compared to other testing tools, which is a valuable feature for us.

What needs improvement?

The main improvement needed is better integration with test management and other tools to allow a common dashboard for all testing metrics and details.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Postman for four to five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Postman is stable enough for our needs, although we have not tested it extensively with a large number of test cases.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We did not test Postman with thousands of test cases, so we cannot comment on its scalability for larger repositories.

How are customer service and support?

We have not contacted Postman's technical support as we have managed all our needs internally.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to using Postman, we used SoapUI. SoapUI was very basic and lacked many features that were then added in the paid version, SoapUI Pro, which was expensive. Postman provides better features than SoapUI.

How was the initial setup?

Installation of Postman is straightforward and can be completed in a few hours by one person.

What about the implementation team?

We did not require any external team for the implementation and managed it internally.

What was our ROI?

The return on investment is significant due to Postman's efficiency in automating API testing, which involves many input and output parameters.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Postman is economical and is considered to be rather cheap compared to other software solutions.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated other tools such as Katalon, Tricentis Tosca, and Universal Function Test (UFT) from OpenText.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend enhancing Postman's integration capabilities with test management tools to better consolidate testing metrics.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

Postman, a user-friendly approach of testing APIs

  • September 17, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
There are certain features in Postman that look really good to me : 1.) Response formatting (can format the API response in JSON etc.) 2.) Environment setup (I can create and switch to a new environment which is very helpful to test the API response either in Quality or Production) 3.) I can easily get the code snippets for the provided API integration in the desired coding language, which is very helpful and time saving. 4.) I can also create my team, where all the members can perform testing simultaneously.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is not much to dislike in Postman, but few are: 1.) I can add only limited member in a team with a basic/free plan. 2.) Sometimes, I get 429 for repeated API calls. 3.) Sometimes I also feel like Postman should also allow the user to manage workspace as code blocks rather limiting it to endpoints only.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It provides various features that solve common problems faced during API development and interaction:
1.) Simplifies API Testing and Debugging : Simplifies API testing by providing a visual interface for interacting with APIs, making it easy for developers and testers to debug requests and responses.
2.) Collaborative API Development : Increases productivity by providing a shared environment for developers, testers, and stakeholders to collaborate on APIs.
3.) Comprehensive API Documentation : Saves time by generating real-time documentation and provides a clear reference for developers using or consuming the API.
