Using OpenShift as an alternate to Broadcom
What do you like best about the product?
It allows us to move to another source rather easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
We have had some issues figuring out the storage side of how nodes will work on OpenShift.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Need to get out of one solution and into RedHat OpenShift as our new solution.
Great to remove Broadcom/VMware
What do you like best about the product?
Standardization for Platform Engineering compute. The ease for removing/replacing VMware when using OpenShift Virtualization is best thing going in the industry. Aside from rolling your own, most of the teams skillets will transfer to the platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
Implementation patterns are still lacking, despite Red Hat Architecture. This makes mapping deployment scenarios to use-cases, hard, but not impossible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest one currently is removing/reducing Broadcom taxes and perpetual license debauchery!
Red Hat OpenShift
What do you like best about the product?
It provides an all-in-one platform around Kubernetes, including the networking, security, and routing components. The web console is easy to use, and the oc cli tool is intuitive.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Ansible playbooks are very complex and difficult to trace back when troubleshooting.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's providing a standard for containerized applications across the company, which reduces the effort required for application migrations.
Red Hat OpenShift Review

Enterprise support for an open source platform with updates that are stable.
What do you dislike about the product?
Adoption of new features can be slow, and support is lacking in technical expertise.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Container management and orchestration for applications delivered through a pipeline.
OpenShift review
What do you like best about the product?
Knowing the features that I deploy are tested, community support, and have a good lifecycles.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's hard to adapt teams used to raw K8s to OpenShift methods.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Providing a flexible platform for dev and prod environments that need to handle constantly changing business application requirements.
Auto scaling of application
What do you like best about the product?
Pod migration without affecting the application with rolling upgrade
What do you dislike about the product?
Difficult to master the platform and need training
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Scaling easily
Great option for replacing VMware
What do you like best about the product?
I love that it supports RBAC, SDDC / virtual networking and segmentation, robust integrated storage and backup / snapshot and many of the features we have come to love in VMware. But of course a lot cheaper :)
What do you dislike about the product?
It’s not very well developed UI and a lot of management is done with yaml and scripting but it’s also extremely customizable in this way.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Like most of of the world we were sticker shocked when Broadcom bought VMware and trippled our renewal fees. We scrambled to find an alternative and albeit a bit clunky, major learning curve and not as refined we have settled on open shift at a fraction of the cost
It works, but when it doesnt ita hell om Earth
What do you like best about the product?
It has some really greate features on top of kubernetes
What do you dislike about the product?
Base install requires alot of resources.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It combines container and virtualization in one platform
Essential for CI/CD development
What do you like best about the product?
As a development platform, it enables devs to rapidly commit and test code updates without requiring assistance from admins. As a production platform, the observability and ease of performance monitoring and tuning is key to making the most of our available resources.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's still entirely too manual. I would prefer to not have to edit yaml all the time and rely on the command line. Either I'm using raw K8s or a shiny GUI platform -- but with OCS I feel like I need to be an expert in both.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Modernization of antiquated defense systems.
Easy to experiment & integrate with the help of platform operators
What do you like best about the product?
The Openshift Platform Operator Hub, which provides numerous operators for applications such as Keycloak (RHBK), RHOAI, and the support for offline operators download.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes with Operators it is difficult to figure out what exactly gets installed and the functionality of each CRs
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Orchestration of containers & resource allocation, monitoring
