Pantheon is a key part of my workflow

  • April 05, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon allows me to launch and maintain Drupal websites and have the confidence that code changes to the site will be done in a proper and systematic way. I also love the backups system, and the ability to develop on the server development through sftp. I'm a WYSIWYG kind of guy -- I understand coding but as a generalist (strategy, content, design, development), I don't want to learn and remember a lot of code based processes if I don't need to. I also really like the ease with which team members can be added.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't dislike much about Pantheon. Some minor issues -- would be nice to have a comment field to associate with manual backups. Would be nice if the control panel icons would update. Some of mine show the installing icon even though the site has been live for months.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ultimately having the right service affects the efficiency and profitability of my business.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it!

Take control over your WordPress Dev and Deployment

  • April 05, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Most of my dev is done locally. I use tools like Pantheon and/or WPEngine for final deployment and management of the content and publishing workflow. Pantheon has many developer oriented configurable features, which is great when you are tuning your workflow. Git integration is by far the most useful. All of our production is done under VC (git) so having a tool which out-of-the-box integrates is awesome.
What do you dislike about the product?
However, with flexibility comes many options an nuances on setting up your workflow, environment. Pantheon is a great tool, but i think it exposes to many options up-front. Getting up and running generally takes a bit of time, but it works. Additionally, you (as a developer, agency) will likely not continue to manage content/workflow, but will end up passing this responsibility to the client, so the choice of the tool and its complexities should be considered.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main problem is having a smooth workflow from dev to handoff/beyond. This means: tools to aid the developer and ultimately tools to aid the non-tech client who will ultimately be managing the site/workflow. I think Pantheon solves the first part of this problem well. It is definitely a developer oriented tool. But I think for the non-tech client, it may become difficult to make adjustments to the workflow or site setup.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Definitely have a look and try it out. Remember to keep in-mind you (the developer) and the client (who may ultimately be the of the site).

Peace of mind while running a cloud based hosting.

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon's turnkey 3 environments workflow and the fact that we don't have to worry about server maintenance is what sold me on Pantheon. The superb customer support is bonus.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not being able to ssh directly to the server as root was hard to get used to and the not having a static IP for outgoing mail for the pro tier is not ideal.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Server updates and maintenance is non-existent which frees time and resources to app development. Spinning a new site is a breeze and the ability to manage teams and assign ownership to clients as well as having client pay directly is very helpful on running our business.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I recommend using the sandbox account to develop a site or two before making the switch. I am confident that once it is tried making a switch would be a no-brainer.

The most reliable and fast Drupal and Wordpress hosting environment I have ever used.

  • April 05, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Graphical UI / Dashboard
Mult-dev environments for branch development
Git versioning both on an up and downstream
Flexibility to push commands via the command line interface
Multiple out of the box environments (dev, test, live)
Ability to launch a new site without any server work, just a few clicks.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing about the infrastructure I dislike,
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Moving from a single server 'always live' environment to having an infrastructure with Pantheon which is built on using a dev/test/live productoin cycle. With both a GUI and a command line interface, offers flexibility of ease of use through GUI, and complex scripting through the CLI.

Additionally the use of an upstream allows us to very quickly launch new sites and begin content migration. The multi-dev environments are extremely useful when doing branch development work while still allowing for core and module security patches.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do your homework and compare things like site isolation, this isn't a shared hosting platform like other web hosts. Each site is it's own silo and thus not affected when some other site on the shared server has a security vulnerabilities.

CMG's successful transition to Pantheon

  • April 05, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon has incredible uptime, an easy to use interface for dev, test and live, and excellent site speed.
What do you dislike about the product?
The SFTP connection is not persistent, requiring multiple reconnections during a normal session. A way to be more trusted (or better instruction on setting up a persistent SFTP connection) to the main development environment would be great.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Site speed, uptime, international reach, proper development workflow, one-click updates. Our labor hour cost for maintenance has been significantly reduced.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend this platform-as-a-service.

DevOps For Everyone

  • April 05, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon is for websites that require the ability to make updates to core site functionality without risk to the functioning of a live site, its e-commerce transaction history, and its data. Pantheon makes it possible for site owners with limited technical skills, and development professionals, to setup and manage a secure DevOps workflow. Out of the box you get hosting designed and optimized specifically for Drupal and WordPress sites. You also get three identically configured sites: 1) a Development site for developers; 2) a Test site for testing new features; and 3) a Live site that only gets updated when changes have been tested and you’re ready to make them live. Pantheon also has pro development features so you can work with multiple developers easily and with full control.
What do you dislike about the product?
I’ve experienced issues where site admin features become disabled when a site admin has not logged in to the admin console for an extended period of time. The issues are resolved after contacting support.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Pantheon delivers max uptime, superior performance, and the ability to continually make improvements to a site without risk to the live site that powers a business. In my experience, Pantheon provides a sense of security and peace of mind.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Yes!

Developer and agency friendly host

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon has several features that save me a ton of time as a developer - Git integration, automated deployments, multiple test and staging environments, page and object caching.
What do you dislike about the product?
If your existing dev workflow does not match Pantheon's you will have to adapt to theirs to reap much benefit.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
By using Pantheon I save myself a ton of time that would otherwise be spent manually setting up servers, staging environments, and caching. They also make handing a site off to a client much easier with their account structure which allows developers to control dev and staging environments while handing off payment for production environments to a business partner.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are a WordPress or Drupal developer or agency I high recommend checking out Pantheon.

Pantheon is great

  • April 05, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon has simplified what used to be a trying area of business for us. We have migrated most of our clients to Pantheon at this point and couldn't be happier.
What do you dislike about the product?
Local development with kalabox is great when it works, but it's difficult to troubleshoot when it doesn't.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were losing money by hosting clients on our own servers. Pantheon simplifies our development workflow while taking care of hosting challenges for us.

Excellent product, highly priced, no support

  • April 05, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The multi-environment workflow is by far the best feature on the platform. It's easy to write new code and move it up to production, while effortlessly making backups at every step along the way.
What do you dislike about the product?
The philosophy of their technical support is this: "if we didn't break it, don't contact us". I've never used such an expensive hosting product coupled with a support department that has such disdain helping their customers be successful on their platform. I understand hosts that don't want to delve into your theme and help you fix your code. But even if you're experiencing a disaster interacting with the workflow functionality, they don't want to hear anything about it. About half of our customers are on Pantheon (including our own site), and the other half are on GoDaddy Managed Wordpress. GoDaddy's support is par to none. They love helping, either on chat, phone or email. And as a result, we don't have to interact with them as much. So you are left with this decision: do you want an amazing hosting product with terrible support, or do you want an above average hosting product with amazing support?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The websites we build are integral components of the B2B sales process. To that effect, Pantheon hosting does bode well with large IT departments. The security and performance of their platform is par to none. Most of our clients are reluctant to host their sites externally, but when they're introduced to Pantheon, they often reconsider.

Great product for Wordpress and Drupal Sites

  • April 05, 2016
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon's Migration Features, GIT and Workflow are some of the best features. Easily migrating and managing sites, along with backups and server performance tweaks specifically for Wordpress and Drupal Sites.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's unfortunately they don't support Wordpress Network without requiring an enterprise level account. The process for taking code from dev to live quickly can be cumbersome in an emergency. Support sometimes takes over 24 hours to respond to ticket requests.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Previously we used to setup and configure a VPS for all of our Wordpress and Drupal sites. The process was very cumbersome and tiring. Pantheon takes a lot of this pain away.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Doesn't support Wordpress Network, need to have a little more technical experience to understand GIT, Workflow and etc.
