Best Drupal Platform for Devs and Dev Teams

  • March 24, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the automated dev, test, and live environments for workflow and testing. I also love the upstream one-click Drupal upgrades! The Git integration is awesome, but also like that you can sftp when needed!
What do you dislike about the product?
It took a little time to develop a workflow strategy for my team, but that's out of ignorance, and—you know—not reading suggested workflows :/
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
continuous integration is actually fun now
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just try the free sandbox and see if it works for your team. It has all functionality except for attaching to a domain name.

Great Whiteglove Service

  • March 20, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The dashboard is very intuitive, providing site owners and admins complete control over development, testing and deployment. The dedicated environments for each phase are phenomenal! Support docs are also very complete and comprehensive.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not many dislikes here. Some of the plugins in WordPress plugin library do not work properly, but Pantheon documentation clearly outlines this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Installing and maintaining WordPress when otherwise not possible with existing institution infrastructure. We have benefitted from the quick setup process to move an existing WordPress site into Pantheon. Extremely straightforward!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need to implement on WordPress or Drupal in a scalable, continuous fashion, go with Pantheon.

Great hosting provider

  • March 20, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
core update via upstream and sandbox options, looking forward to managed updates and advances CDN rollout. They have a great support team and go above and beyond to assist with support and scaling.

Having the ability to spin up a drupal site in minutes and be up and running with the most current version of drupal is amazing.

the added support models and the overall cost make pantheon one company to consider
What do you dislike about the product?
single git branching, no connection to github, sometimes a slight delay when releasing upstream drupal security patches. I find another difficulty is the time zone, they are located on the west cost and are 3 hours behind, so shecualling meetings can be an issue
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
easy to spin up simple drupal sites. nice sandboxing options. can activate and freeze sites when needed.
We often have requests to create a testing site as a proof of concept or a registration page for a conference, Pantheon makes this super quick and easy
Recommendations to others considering the product:
a great hosting service with great support. fantastic pricing models and an eye for the future, they keep adding to their platform and making it even better

Stable managed hosting with developer centric tools

  • March 20, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Managed hosting with access to staged environment and a rich set of dev tools.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cost is steep for smaller clients. Sizing of packages seems arbitrary.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Great for clients without internal resources for DevOps and systems administration.

Great product to build & manage hundreds of WordPress websites

  • March 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to spin up additional multi-dev environments to test new features. The centralized dashboard to access dozens or hundreds of sites from one place. The ability to add "new devs" to a site or team and provide them with granular access. The immediate "rollback" feature of activating a previous backup. Their chat support for premier partners.

My only regret about Pantheon is not signing up sooner. It's a game changer for anyone building and managing websites, even if it's just 1 site or 1,000.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only consistent issue we run into with Pantheon, is their unique file structure for WP sites. A lot of performance plugins require read/write access at different levels of directories, but Pantheon doesn't allow this. So, rather than being able to host a simple HTML file or cache your site in a particular directly— you simply can't. I hope they change this in the future, as we still spin up subdomains on different hosts to facilitate special file needs.

Also, I wish the commit log could be more robust and detailed, as it bundles big commits into one, long, hard-to-decipher commit. This usually isn't a problem, as best practices suggest "commit early and commit often" but when you install a new theme or plugin, sometimes it has hundreds (or thousands) of files and it's impossible to commit "half a new theme" or "half a new plugin" when you install and activate from the WP dashboard. Also, the ability to search commits, rollback commits, or more "github-like-features" would be an absolute game changer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managing many sites at the same time. The ability to troubleshoot without risking the entire integrity of your live site. The ability to spin up a quick "demo" site in a few minutes. The ability to hand over the keys to a customer to have them take over payment. Ability to work with multiple teams at once.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you make WordPress websites for a living, Pantheon is a life saver. It takes the burden out of setting up a site and transforms setup into just a few clicks and a few minutes of time. The price point is significantly higher than a shared hosting account on other platforms, but the performance and ease of use make it at least 10X as better. I highly recommend giving it a shot for your next project.

The best hosting for Drupal

  • March 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Multidev, travis CI integration, terminus
What do you dislike about the product?
I cannot use multidev because I dont make pantheon enough $
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Providing value for clients; I can focus on architecture and development and not on the other stuff.

Pantheon has given me peace of mind with it's reliability and scalability

  • March 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon's container-based platform gives us highly scalable and reliable hosting without the tech headaches.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pantheon is not cost effective for smaller sites.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With Pantheon, we have an improved workflow that allows us to launch new WordPress sites quickly and maintain sites easily. The dev-test-live workflow enables us to develop and test new features without disrupting the live site. In addition, the Multidev feature allows us to have several branches available for development and testing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I highly recommend Pantheon for sites that require an isolated, high availability environment. The availability of New Relic is a big help in tracing issues with sites and resource usage. You can get their free trial to check it out and test everything in a dev environment.

Excellent support, brilliant platform

  • March 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The platform supports highly tech-centric development or much more casual workflows. I can run an entire project via command line integration with GitHub and CircleCI, using composer, terminus, drush, and git...or I can spin up and configure a basic project using GUI tools. Fantastic.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some of the documentation is a bit out of date, and the basic recipes for common packages like Drupal could be better supported.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's my day-today hosting platform of choice.

Pantheon makes us look good to our clients

  • March 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love the Dev/Test/Live environments, their exceptional hosting speeds, and the ease of daily automated back-ups & restores.
What do you dislike about the product?
There have been a few hiccups such as discovering that a version of PHP is suddenly incompatible with my site updates, but customer support has always been quick to help.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We love starting a new website project in their free Sandbox environment, developing it to completion and just flipping the switch to make it a live site. No need to pay for hosting under the development phase. We built one client's site in this manner only to have them insist on switching to another host for the finished project. Three months later, they had us move it back to Pantheon because the speed of their cheap hosting was unusable.

Great managed hosting with amazing technical customer support!

  • March 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We use Pantheon for over a dozen websites, and love it! It's a great managed hosting solution for Wordpress - we use it for development of new sites and management of existing sites. Great agile workflow and WebOps, and also accessible to our clients. The thing that makes it Pantheon stand apart is amazing technical customer support--always available, very technical, and extremely helpful. By far the best technical customer support I've seen!
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly nothing. I guess there are less expensive solutions out there, but I think you get what you pay for with them. They do also offer agency pricing which makes it a bit more affordable for some of our clients.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Moving from more basic Wordpress hosting to Pantheon where we can use automated workflows to develop, test, and launch websites with git has allowed us to rely on a much more agile approach. It's also allowed us to manage sites with less downtime since we can test code, integrations, and updates before pushing them live. Automated backups and automated updates have also streamlined our WebOps process.
