SyllaDB is love

  • July 06, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SyllaDB is love, and I can vouch for it as it comes with plethora of benefits to my organization.

Super low latency - So that my end users get faster responses,
Database sharding - So that we can extract the best of our hardware (CPU and Memory)
Lesser cost as compared to similar tools
and Lastly Cassandra Compatibility
What do you dislike about the product?
Some places where we might need help -

Support - SyllaDB is growing and so is its community and support, so join along the community and add your experiences
Learning - Switching from the Relational DB world to the NoSQL / Distributed world might be overwhelming
Not many extra plugins/tools - I would suggest keep patience
Setting it up initially is bit hard - Again for those, who are new to the NoSQL / Distributed world
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are Payment Gateway providers and in my opinion, SyllaDB can help us in many ways -

Transaction processing - With ultra Low Latency, We can achieve higher Transaction processing rates, especially during peak hours when we are getting millions of transactions per second

Scalability - In the payments world, as we all know transactions peak during festivals/holiday season, and SyllaDB can scale up/down the nodes while ensuring load balancing and maximum resource utilization

Forex Rates - ScyllaDB can fetch latest exchange rates, enabling us for real-time conversion & processing of forex

Dynamic Pricing and Discounts - It can calculate real-time discounts, dynamic pricing, and promotional offers even during the peak seasons/hours, enhancing our shopper experience by benefiting him with the best rates

What is our primary use case?

We use the platform to manage advertising-related data, such as tracking ad views and demographic information.

What is most valuable?

The product's most valuable features are efficiency and reliability. Compared to similar tools, it consumes fewer computing resources and requires minimal maintenance, ensuring smooth operations.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using ScyllaDB for approximately three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've had occasional performance challenges that required resource adjustments or optimizations in our interaction with the platform. However, the support team has responded and promptly resolved these issues.

I rate the stability a nine.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is highly scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support team has been excellent. They are responsive and knowledgeable, providing timely assistance.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup has been straightforward in our experience. The deployment team handles the setup efficiently, typically completing it within a day with minimal involvement required from our side.

What other advice do I have?

The product's efficiency has allowed us to optimize resource usage effectively. Its reliability reduces operational overhead, enabling us to focus resources on other critical tasks.

It is user-friendly for those familiar with databases. A basic understanding of database management is necessary for effective use and deployment.

I rate it a ten.

One of the best NoSQL db

  • July 05, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Almost seamless integration. It has familer Query Language. Support the most of our business requirements. Its used in most of my pet projects. Open source development model.
What do you dislike about the product?
Its fairly a new db need to onboard new people.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had a usecase where we needed to move from SQL to a new NO SQL which could scale in future and has open source support. We needed db which can support the high throughput and had the basic 'ibilities' fulfilled. We went with ScyllaDB as it was having all the above features and also has the ealier onboarding.

Great for alomost all usecase. Provides caching, sharding out of the box

  • July 05, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We have been using Scylladb as a primary db for one of our services. There is seemless transition from casandaradb. Apart from these it satisfies scalabiliy, reliability constraints which is required for high throughput services like ours. The documentation is also very well done.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing to dislike here, it could have been great if there would be an out of the box driver from spring boot. We have to manually add the driver jar into the application.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a database which is easiser to implement and understand. It should give basic features like caching, auto scalling out of the box. It should be reliable and tested in real world usecases.
ScyllaDB was a perfect choice for this problems as it has all these feature we required.

Its affordable, scaleable, noSQL DB, comes with a free trial, its open source. Customer support is also impressive. Its also not challenging for beginner as well.
What do you dislike about the product?
When we use it initaially, might be challenging for few users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our use case was to handle a considerable amount of requests per second and need a database which can be easy to do a POC as well as can be deployed to production.

Rewrite of Cassandra in C++ and uses a special library optimized for I/O operations and offers good documentation

  • June 28, 2024
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

We use it as a non-relational database. We use it to store two things:

  1.  To store audit log data and
  2. blob data, including images with different sizes, like 200kb.

We use it as an image database as well, such as user profile pictures and product catalog promotional pictures.

What is most valuable?

ScyllaDB is a rewrite of Cassandra in C++ and uses a special library called Seastar, which was developed by ScyllaDB

Seastar is optimized for I/O operations, which makes it very good compared to Cassandra. Like it's ten times better in terms of performance.

The documentation is good. It integrates easily with our existing data infrastructure.

What needs improvement?

If you don't have the best computing resources, then it's not easy to set up. In such cases, we have to run ScyllaDB in developer mode.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have never faced any problems. As per my use case and our environment, it is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's pretty good. It offers everything we need at this time. It's a scalable product.

In my organization, all 55 people across six products use ScyllaDB.

How are customer service and support?

We have never contacted customer service and support. It's all working great. So, never needed the support

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We tried MongoDB. It wasn't scalable at that time, like six or seven years ago. Then we moved to Cassandra and then ScyllaDB.

How was the initial setup?

With best computing resources: If you have good computing resources like CPUs, memory, and especially solid-state drives (SSDs), the installation and configuration are very easy.

Without the best computing resources: If you don't have the best computing resources, then it's not easy to set up. In such cases, we have to run ScyllaDB in developer mode.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's free. Only support is costly. So the support is an extra cost, which is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend to use it. It is easy for a beginner to learn to use ScyllaDB for the first time.

Overall, I would rate it a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Understanding ScyllaDB's Architecture - How It Predicts Single-Digit Millisecond Latencies

  • June 26, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The product set of ScyllaDB really stands out with its high throughput and low latency oriented, which is perfect for use cases where real-time interaction is important.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is evident that ScyllaDB is fast but can be complicated depending on the configuration as well as being slightly non-ACID compliant. It offers an excellent service for long-time users but could be confusing to newcomers, and projects with very high standards of consistency will be better off with a different tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With ScyllaDB, there is a solution to the problem of working with Big Data in terms of throughput and latency requirements necessary for real-time applications. Being a DBaaS it comes with simplicity, flexibility, and minimal overheads to users so that they can devote their time and energies to the application development part.

ScyllaDB ; Scalable and high performance database for your needs

  • June 25, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing is real time and scaling + Also it is very much compitibl with AWS DynamoDB.
This is very good when you have a usecase to perform the larger number of data operations like logging and monitoring matrics.
The good thing and trust for ScyllaDB is it is one the Graduated projects from CNCF where pepople and contribute and help building the stainable softwares for cloud.
Other features are it low latency and supports time based data.
Onboarding and integrating this ScyllaDB is very easy with your system specially if you are woking with kubernetes based deployments.
We use this db as primary for storing the logs and generating the complex dashboards to identify the vulnerablity.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing much to dislike as every product has pros and cons, as this db simplifies the complxity of managing and using the cassendra db , at the same time there can be some tasks which are complex in ScyllaDB.
Also you have to deal and manage the compute resources for this db for a better performance.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Needed a logging and monitoring solution for the packet observality and the VPN request flows to identify the issues and vulnerability. Used for internal services as private SIEM.
