Low-code is best code

  • March 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Alteryx is a data tool used for ETL work, analytics and automation. The ease of learning is quick due to its graphical user interface and ability to create workflow processes thru drag and drop tools. Our stakeholders love the Server/Gallery, allowing them to run these workflows as "apps" on-demand. We can easily implement a process faster than some of our tech partners. Support is friendly and quick. We use Alteryx as our daily data driver for ad-hoc and evergreen processes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Once you start using it, you are hooked!
Some of the newer Python-based tools require more rigorous testing on their end before releasing to the public. We have found bugs in them which should have been captured during QA testing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed ways to automate data preparation for operational reporting without loading our tech partners with requests. Taking ownership of this allows us better flexibility and rapid development of automated ETL.

Retrieves data from the database and performs calculations

  • March 11, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

In our team, we use Excel for a lot of calculations and automation workflows. We retrieve data from the database, perform calculations, and then distribute the results to various departments or customers.

What is most valuable?

Alteryx helps me do a lot of automation. The best thing about Alteryx is that you don't have to repeat the workflow over and over again. Unlike Excel, where you need to write formulas for each new file, Alteryx follows a consistent process. You can schedule and automate the workflow, even if the files change.

What needs improvement?

I think sometimes the solution doesn't load properly or takes so much time for the workflows. Though the workflow runs and completes the file in Excel, if you use the same formula, it's a bit slow. Also, the image processing is not so good because I tried to do some image processing and they were like, sometimes they put two to eight. In the document, it was two, but the OCR predicted it as eight.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the product for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

My company has more than 100 users.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't contacted the technical support.

How was the initial setup?

The tool's installation and setup are not difficult; you just need to install it.

What other advice do I have?

You can use this tool if you want to do a lot of automation. It is easy for users to learn and use it. The drag-and-drop interface works fine for us. I rate it a seven out of ten.

Has a good UI and drag-and-drop features which makes it easy to understand

  • March 11, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the product for data transformation and analysis. We primarily use it for data preparation, analysis, and sometimes generation. So, it covers a wide range of tasks beyond just loading data.

What is most valuable?

Alteryx has a good UI. We use it frequently in our projects. The tool comes with drag-and-drop features and is easy to understand for business needs. One situation where Alteryx's advanced analytics capabilities were particularly beneficial for us was during a forecasting project. Unlike Python, which requires coding, Alteryx simplifies the process significantly. With Alteryx, users can adjust parameters within the user interface without writing any code.

Its user interface is one of the tool's best aspects. Once we became familiar with it, we found that tasks can be completed within seconds or minutes, especially for small data analyses. The tool's computation time is also commendable.

We have integrated the product with Tableau and Python.

What needs improvement?

There have been some issues with licensing, particularly with the increased prices. This has led some companies, including ours, to consider reducing the number of licenses or potentially discontinuing their use of Alteryx.

Since most of our team members work with Alteryx, deploying workflows to clients who may not have licenses became a hurdle. Every user needed a license to run the workflows, which could pose difficulties, especially for clients who only needed occasional access for small data analyses. Unlike other software like Microsoft Power BI, which offers free trials or user licenses for basic functionality, Alteryx doesn't provide such options, potentially limiting its accessibility for occasional users.

It should improve scalability.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the product for more than ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the tool's stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the solution's scalability four to five out of ten.

How was the initial setup?

The tool's deployment can be completed in a day or two. We have 24 engineers to handle it.

What about the implementation team?

The solution's deployment was done in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the tool's pricing a two out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would recommend Alteryx for complex data analysis needs. We are considering moving to Tableau Prep.

The solution is great as a standalone product. However, there are certain add-ons provided by Alteryx that are very useful but come with additional costs on top of the licensing fees. This aspect can be a bit of a downside. So, overall, considering this factor, I would rate Alteryx at around seven out of ten.

There are numerous benefits to using Alteryx. It's user-friendly and allows for data transformations, making tasks easy to understand.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

  • February 28, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Everything I would want to build out in excel and python I can create in Alteryx and see what my data is doing each step of the way. It lets me think through each step.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish I could use SQL and pull directly from my companies internal system... but thats more on our side.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I can combine python and excel all into one. It goes in as multiple data sources and comes out as a full report.

Job Accelerator

  • February 14, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Alteryx is the perfect tool to accelerate your jobs and improve your overall team’s output. It is leaps and bounds above excel and gives someone that is data minded the extra fuel to really create special things. Those that are less data driven can learn to be data driven with minimal help.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are limitations in the visual tools that Alteryx has, meaning you need a reporting tool to combine with it. The data science tools require more know how then other tools on the market.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Alteryx helps us analyze and combine data from systems that are currently not linked togheter. This allows us to run analysis that would take more time in excel or other tools.

Career Transformational - Easy to Learn - Life Changing Software

  • February 05, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Alteryx is the easiest to learn data and analytics software that I ever had to learn. The drag and drop interface is easier to understand and follow. It allows you to check your work one step at the time, unline something like SQL. The applicability of hte tool, not only to data processing but also ability to use the tool for varius uses is amazing. The ability to implement Gallery and share workflows is amazing because you can capture a wide audience without all of the users having to get designer license. The included version control and access management controls on the Gallery are integral parts in making the Gallery and workflows SOX compliant, which is significant for our Finance department. Alteryx provides amazing trainings and the community is a great support mearuse for those who are just learning to use the tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
My only complait is error message handling with workflows that have been published to the Gallery. The errors could be tricky to desipher.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Alteryx is an integral part is sucessful and timely financial close.

the best platform for moving excel processes to

  • January 05, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
i managed to simplify alot of the manual sheets and processes, into repeatable workflows that allowed any user with not much knowledge to run the tool in no time at all.
What do you dislike about the product?
i find it difficult to keep this software up to date at work, and would like it if the software could update itself much like bloomberg does already.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
currently i am extracting data from a db, and then moving into another platform, which has some requirements and shaping to fit into the new style. This is done here quite well as a quick 1 button refresh will provide a brand new snapshot of data. This is then performed about 40 times, but with the tools we can make this alot simplier, and also highlighting where problems are.

Powerful analytic tool for data modelling and story telling

  • December 04, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As a core member of R&D at medicaps, I heavily encountered data and so as data analytics platforms such as Anaconda, tableau, alteryx, etc. But alteryx has proven to be the best asset for me for the last few months in my research work. It has all kind of features that any machine learning engineer want, providing a robust and versatile platform for data modeling and feature engineering.
The best thing it saves my time by dragging and dropping features, and statistical and predictive modeling gets easy making it very popular for the beginner. Almost all the data types are supported and collaboration becomes easy with a peer group.
What do you dislike about the product?
Costs are relatively high except that this platform is best for beginners.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
for me time-saving is important so alteryx majorly saves my time by preventing me from writing unnecessary Python scripts for data modeling and analysis. Data analysis improves overall unlike writing a Python script. Overall efficiency increased workload becomes less, productivity increased in my research work.

Feature-rich ETL that condenses a number of functions into one tool

  • November 21, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use Alteryx to build process prototypes, exploring potential business benefits before scaling up and automating. It helps me handle various data sources, apply transformations based on business rules, and push outputs to the cloud. In the past, relying solely on documentation didn't capture the essence, so I used the solution through various approaches. Now, I use it as a live provider and send it to the IT team.

How has it helped my organization?

My primary focus is creating numerous data pulls, and Alteryx Server handles the automation well. It's a significant time-saver because I don't have to juggle maintenance for dozens of SQL queries or remember the logic for each one. Everything is neatly organized on our server. Monthly runs are automated, updating Tableau, data services, Excel files, or other necessary components. This level of automation for tasks saves valuable time for me and my team, especially when dealing with emails and other routine processes.

What is most valuable?

Its most valuable feature lies in its functionality, offering an ETL process similar to a large enterprise with a dedicated IT team. The power of the solution is that it condenses these complex processes into a desktop tool, allowing a single user to handle extensive data extraction, transformation, and loading, even incorporating machine learning. It empowers individuals to execute tasks that typically require an entire IT division, putting this capability at your fingertips.

What needs improvement?

In terms of improvement, the transition from the desktop to the cloud can be challenging. While the desktop piece works seamlessly within the company's security architecture, when you load workflows onto the cloud, the same connections don't translate due to firewall issues. It would be beneficial if this transition could be made more seamless and straightforward for users.

The solution is already feature-rich and doesn't require any improvements. Their current versions are ahead of the curve. Their machine learning and predictive modeling features place them at the forefront. Some advanced features are more than what's needed for our regular business purposes.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for over five years. I’m currently using the 2022.1 version of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the stability a five out of ten. While the desktop features are excellent, the transition from desktop to cloud and the usability of their cloud-based automation could be improved.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is scalable. I rate it an eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

We've encountered challenges with their support. Alteryx Support could offer more hands-on assistance, allowing us to walk through the installation process and demonstrate how to connect to data securely. While acknowledging the importance of security considerations, simplifying the process with fewer navigation and layers would greatly improve the overall experience.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

Installing the Alteryx server and navigating their environment can be complex.

What was our ROI?

I have been using the solution in my current role for less than a year, and while I have yet to see a return on investment, I did observe ROI in my previous role. However, I see a clear path towards achieving a strong ROI in the current setting.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

It was Tableau Prep. It is a competitor to Alteryx, and initially, I considered going with Tableau Prep. However, the decision to choose Alteryx was made by higher-ups in my company. Upon further understanding, I found that Tableau Prep currently does not catch up to Alteryx in terms of features.

What other advice do I have?

To someone evaluating whether to go for Alteryx, I would say it's more simplistic, and you don't need a computer science engineering degree to use it. However, analysts should have a basic understanding of databases and SQL. If your analysts possess these skills, they can quickly grasp the solution. Additionally, staying closely connected with your IT teams during implementation is important to ensure that all components are installed for optimal results. Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud
