Awesome tool for tracking analytics

  • November 12, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Super easy to use. The design of the website is great and I appreciate how easy it is to find something as a brand new user. Customer support is also fantastic. They get back to you very quick with answers.
What do you dislike about the product?
Exporting heap data is a bit of a trick. We were using redshift for awhile which worked but there is a time delay in being able to access data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Heap makes it really easy for us to see how people interact with our platform.

Insights I couldn't get from Google

  • November 12, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how easy it is to track events where I couldn't do it in GA.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's very expensive. It took us a long time to make a decision because it's such a large upfront cost and a 12 month contract.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are tracking events and clicks and how it relates to purchases.

Powerful analytics that is developer friendly

  • November 12, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Heap really takes much of the burden away from developers, since you don't need to specifically track every click, form submit, or pageview.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI is a bit difficult/confusing until you get the hang of it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We analyze all pageview and click data from Heap in our data warehouse. We can determine how effective our various marketing campaigns are against different site features.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try out the free version first and if you like it, definitely go ahead and sign with them. They have excellent support and the product overall is great.

Great Analytics Tool!

What do you like best about the product?
Heap is super powerful and helps us uncover insights into the ways our customers use our product. This allows us to make more informed decisions making changes to our product and developing our product tours. Prior to using Heap we were using both Mixpanel and Google Analytics. Heap has allowed us to combine our analytics needs together under Heap.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be complex to learn but once you do it's a really powerful tool. I wish you could track what page on your website someone started a demo on or signed up for your product rather than just the initial landing page.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main problem we were solving with Heap is having a single analytics tool that allowed us to track our lead conversions and user insights within our product.

Fantastic tool for marketers

  • November 12, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's extremely easy to define events. This comes in handy as a team that is constantly making changes to our website, testing things, and redefining our website events to upkeep our analytics pipeline.
What do you dislike about the product?
The data never matches up with Google Analytics, which can be concerning and always begs the question of which is a source of truth.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're able to measure the impact of our A/B tests on our site, measure which content hubs get better engagement, and understand the behavior of our customers much more accurately.

Yes good

What do you like best about the product?
The retroactive events feature is the best thing that's ever happened to an analytics tool. No cap.

Their Event Visualizer makes it easy for anyone to set up a custom event just by clicking on a webpage element. No more inspecting an element and trying to find the right CSS selector - just point and click and boom, you've got yourself a beautiful event.
What do you dislike about the product?
You have to build all the reports from scratch yourself. Which is fine if you have experience using analytics tools, but if you're new to the game, it could be a very steep learning curve. I'd love to see some pre-built reports included in the tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
While examining how users interact with different sections of the site based on their needs or industry, Heap made it easy for us to analyze any and all growth experiments we were running. With their retroactive events feature, you don't ever have to worry about missing data because you didn't set something up properly ahead of time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Heap will make you forget that Google Analytics even exists.

I definitely recommend reviewing their tutorials and docs if you're new to analytics. But their documentation is so detailed and helpful that even the least experienced person could learn the basics within a day.

As soon as you get Heap, I highly recommend that you establish a naming convention for events and strictly enforce it.

Overall it's an incredibly powerful tool that makes it easy to make data-informed business decisions.

What do you like best about the product?
Easy plug-and-play with JS code snippet. Super easy to add custom events.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI of Heap can be difficult at times to navigate, understanding where things are and how to generate reports, dashboards, etc
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Adoption rates, drop off rates, how our product is being used daily by which customer segments.

Brings simplicity to eComm analysis.

What do you like best about the product?
The best feature about Heap is that it is retrospective so you don't have to stress about setting up all events out of the box.
What do you dislike about the product?
I really enjoy using Heap as a whole; it's packed with useful and practical features. However, there is always room for further improvements and new features - one of which I would love to see is the ability to track totals with conversion without having to do it manually downstream. For example, seeing conversion between PDP and checkout, but also in the same report, which how many views of were there for those PDP's; CR between product A and checkout was 10% and there were 1000 sessions that viewed this product in the past X days.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Heap provides access/visibility into a user's journey and web behaviour that goes beyond the transaction. This makes it possible to segment groups of users based on usage such as frequency of visits, effective campaigns and sources, thus allowing me to target these customers in a more personable approach.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If anyone is looking for a web analytics tool that provides deeper insights and more accurate results than GA, Heap is the tool to use.

Tracks without me needing to & much easier than GA/GTM

  • November 12, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that it's always tracking css-targeted clicks, even if I haven't defined actions yet. I like that it makes it really easy to create graphs, as a developer to show this to my Product Owner blew her away because I was able to show that a feature we added was only being used 25% of the time and we needed to make a change to get people using it - HEAP MAKES ME LOOK GOOD!
What do you dislike about the product?
I find it hard to work out where to go in the menu bar at the left. I mainly use reports, and define new actions. I get mixed up as to which primary menu item will show me my sub menu item.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use heap predominantly to work out how users ended up at an error page. I.e what steps they took so we can fix the bug.
I have used heap to track if a feature was a success or not. (Tracking user adoption)
I've used heap to prove that users found our menu items confusing because they were clicking between tabs to work out what was wrong.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try it out, it will be doing more for you than you realise from the moment you install it in your app.

Heap frees engineering and data to focus on building product and understanding data

  • November 12, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Retroactive event definition has eliminated expensive explicit tracking plans and ugly event tracking code sprinkled through the app.

Heap's analysis web tools are great for 80% of our scenarios, and for the rest there is Heap Connect.
What do you dislike about the product?
For our modern web apps (e.g. react-based apps), Heap implicit tracking through DOM changes doesn't work by itself -- we still need engineering to add attributes to elements, and enforce that URLs are updated.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We better understand how customers are using our apps (what is engaging vs not, what in the funnel is broken). We better understand who are customers are (devices they use, UTM origins, etc).

More of the company can access this data through Heap's UI and through our other dashboards (via Heap Connect). Engineers and Product Managers, not just data scientists, can log in and explore the data themselves.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider your needs holistically -- how much web vs native, how much traffic are you expecting, what is your current tracking solution? A hybrid between explicit tracking via solutions like Snowplow and Heap could be appropriate.
