One of the best analytics tools available!

What do you like best about the product?
Heap gives our company a snapshot of device usage across our core product offerings so that customer service, user research, product design and all departments may benefit from quantitative insights in addition to the qualitative user feedback we collect. Customizable overviews of metrics combined with comprehensive reports gives our company a detailed overview of user data and usage in as broad or as defined of a scope as we needed according to our project goals.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish users were given more options in terms of organizing keywords and filters using Heap - as it stands right now the operators and values within the filtering system are fairly comprehensive as "logical operators" but might be expanded upon to get to the nitty gritty details for custom-run reports.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are launching and looking at Covid-specific data tracking initiatives in our reports such as tracking page views and click throughs to covid resource pages and URLs and observing resource funnels. Additionally, we are tracking DAU and WAU with unique users performing events being tracked.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
None

What do you like best about the product?
Heap has been crucial to our product team and the success of our growing customer base
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't think of any issues; it's seamless in what we use it for every day
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to analyze our traffic and metrics in real time has been integral in deciding what parts of the product to push and where we need to improve. We have deliverables that are derived directly from our Heap metrics.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need analytics this is the app for you.

Super helpful, takes time to learn

  • May 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Heap shows you what your users are doing in a way that doesn't feel too invasive. Once you understand how to use it, it's powerful.
What do you dislike about the product?
It takes time to learn and there is some lingo/ jargon that you need to know (mostly web dev stuff) to use it effectively. They have great learning tools, but you have to be willing to put in the time to learn.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are investigating how our users interact with our product and especially how we can improve our new user conversion. We have been able to pinpoint moments when we lose people and make product improvements that are backed by evidence.

Heap has been a game changer for our marketing and product teams!

  • May 27, 2021

What do you like best about the product?
This has been one of the best out-of-the-box analytics tools I've ever used. Forget Google Analytics/Fullstory. This is a complete analytics tool that runs both simple and complex visualizations that are actionable. Their customer service is also incredible. They respond quickly and will continue to follow up until your issue is solved.

It's very simple to create dashboards as well, for both the product and marketing teams. They have built-in reports and dashboards as well that you can use with a click of a button.

They also have amazing APIs that connect your database to Heap, where I can pass things like which subscription a user has, what team they belong to, and more. The integrations are also wonderful. We're able to connect to Hubspot and integrate our CRM data, which allows us to measure the activity of users that end up signing contracts for enterprise accounts.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's not much I don't like! It doesn't give us session duration, which I think can be a very important metric. We are also unable to change the definition of a session. Our users typically don't log out between sessions, so we can't use "login" activity as a proxy. For a while, I was unsure whether or not the data collected was lumping in browsers of our marketing site with users of our app.

Another thing I'm unsure about is how to differentiate between buttons without having our development team add a unique identifier to each button. For example, our support and chat buttons are in the same div and tagged as buttons, so unless users click the icon, NOT the button, we're unable to track which ones they do click.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're tracking growth experiments with Heap. We're in the middle of switching our UI and website, so we haven't had enough time to see tangible results, but once we have data for the new versions, I'm sure we'll track the effectiveness of changes putting in place. One tangible thing we're seeing is how much time is saved not having to pull data from the database and code manual visualizations.

One thing that we HAVE solved with Heap is tracking the effectiveness of our team. For example, a colleague of mine was out of town and we were able to track the effectiveness of his social media posts compared to the time period where others on the team posted. It's far easier to use than looking at Google analytics for this data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're considering Heap, think about how much time you spend connecting data between disparate data sources. Heap can be your single source of truth when it comes to marketing and product data, replacing hand-coded visualizations, google analytics, fullstory, and more.

You can also connect your database to deposit retroactive Heap data into your database. If you use a data viz tool such as Tableau, this could be a game-changer for you!

Game changer for our Product AND Marketing Teams; Never going back to GA!

  • May 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We love how Heap auto-captures all event data without requiring prior definition on our back-end. This frees up our valuable engineering resources to go focus on higher priority initiatives.

The reporting console is self-explanatory and also enables our team members who are less technical savvy or not versed in SQL to build reports on their own without requiring assistance from more technical team members.

Visualizations are also key for us. The standard event visualizations in the Heap dashboards make the charts and reports easy for our teams to share out to leadership.

We have Heap installed on three separate sites. First is our corporate website, second is our customer portal, and third is our internal SaaS platform used by our coordinators. Heap enables us to track event data across all three without having to worry about data crossover between the platforms. It also allows us to maximize our ROI by sharing our costs across multiple projects.
What do you dislike about the product?
Very little. The training time was minimal for Heap.

I wish there was more self-service training for new team members, as I currently spend 1-3 hours training each additional team member that wants to utilize Heap. If Heap hosted live recurring onboarding sessions for new team members, that would free up additional time for me to spend on my primary role as a product manager. These sessions could be hosted on a monthly cadence, for example.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Previously, we had not invested in event analytics due to the high engineering cost of implementing each event definition via Google Analytics. We were "flying blind." Heap solved this for us by effectively replacing the engineering function of defining each event definition.

Since Heap captures all events automatically after the initial Javascript implementation, we're able to retroactively define events and run historical analysis without having to worry about defining a new event upon implementation.

We also didn't understand user behavior well on our customer-facing platforms. Heap helped us better understand the most commonly performed functions on our platform, and analyze them further. We realized that customers were performing extra clicks to copy ID's in our customer portal, which was also causing them to switch between screens more commonly. This level of insight led us to implement a new copy widget on our platform, which reduced customer clicks by 2/3 and reduced time to complete the same task by 50%. Such a user study would have taken a month of manually scheduled user tests to complete, but Heap enabled this study via software.

Heap review based on tracking of specific events and funnels

  • May 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Fast access to events data on the platform. Easy funnel tracking, and analyzing the adoption of new features. Quite useful in decisions for iterating existing product and retiring certain features.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's a bit of a steep learning curve required, and at times it requires the broader team to look at an event or a funnel to validate if the tracking is in line with the business objectives corresponding to a particular metric. It does require a few training sessions with fuller attention to all minute details, and finally, it needs the user to get started and make a few mistakes to learn along.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In situations with a lot of data being generated from the mobile app or the website, Heap can capture that for use cases such as analysis and reporting. Heap helps in more granular tracking for more objective decision making, enables testing to decide whether we continue or retire product elements and finally helps us develop a deep understanding into what matters more to the users, and what not.

Super helpful tool for understanding basic user behavior and metrics

  • May 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Heap was super easy to spin up on our small startup team. Anyone across the company can add new events or reports that they want
What do you dislike about the product?
We still haven't completely ironed out a process between product + eng that helps us stay organized about defining or changing events with each new deploy. It also requires eng support frequently to make sure we're defining events properly
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Gives us great insight into general user behavior. We also use it to debug when individual users reach out about a problem they're seeing. It's really helpful to track their on-site behavior.

Overall intuitive interface, useful in helping me get insights

  • May 27, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Heap is intuitive and covers key use cases with regard to analyzing user behavior. I don't have to spend too much time getting started; everything feels automated and that helps me get to my deliverables as fast as possible.
What do you dislike about the product?
Really slow loading times for some of my analyses - it also sometimes disconnects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been able to track the launch of new features within our product interface. The dashboard also auto-updates itself over time so in this week, I am able to access the latest view of what the metrics look like. From a reporting standpoint, this makes my job much easier - I am able to just share a link to the dashboard to my manager without having to update them manually.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Try out a demo and see if their features satisfy all your intended use cases
