Automation simplifies file transfer and builds confidence in security

What is our primary use case?

As I said, mainly for secure automated file transfer between our internal systems and the databases such as MySQL and the external business partners. We use GoAnywhere MFT for secure protocols such as Secure File Transfer Protocol, File Transfer Protocol, and HTTPS. I have used it for securely transferring the files.

As a core data engineer, I used to transfer the files over the databases with GoAnywhere MFT. I haven't used any other tools to transfer the files. This is the first software I'm using to transfer files as a tool, so I don't know very much about other tools.

What is most valuable?

I appreciate the features of GoAnywhere MFT such as advanced workflows to automate all the transfer and reduce manual effort. The logs and reporting are very helpful for checking all the compliances. The encryption is quite good. The main feature which is very useful is connectors to connect it with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, GCP.

The automation in GoAnywhere MFT really helps us because it reduced the manual work significantly. We can transfer hundreds of files with zero manual interventions. The audit trails also help during the compliance audits. It has given stakeholders more confidence in the security of file transfer. It also helped developers to securely transfer the files. Overall, the impact was very good and positive in our business and personal improvements.

What needs improvement?

Overall GoAnywhere MFT is good, but I would love to see more AI-driven analytics for monitoring. In our company, the data analyst used to monitor it for transfer patterns and they require some more modern UI and smoother upgrades with less downtime. This feature could be improved to make it better.

The transferring with GoAnywhere MFT is not visible during maintenance. We have to monitor it manually, so there is a need for a dedicated team to manually monitor it. It needs some maintenance.

For how long have I used the solution?

I am a data engineer professionally and I have been using GoAnywhere MFT for around six months, as I have started a new job in Cognifize. I use it mainly for secure automated file transfer. I am still learning it because it's a little bit complex at the start.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

At the start, the process of deploying GoAnywhere MFT and the learning curve was very difficult. Currently, it feels quite easy. The deployment is quite easy for me now, but at the start, there were difficulties to deploy it.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Both stability and scalability of GoAnywhere MFT are strong points as it's a very scalable file transfer tool. Stability is good. We started with a few jobs and scaled it to 100 without any issue. Stability is excellent, downtime is rare, and even large files can be transferred completely without any problem.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I haven't started working on agents in GoAnywhere MFT.

How was the initial setup?

Sometimes we use GoFast in GoAnywhere MFT because there are many failures or server issues. We use GoFast because the protocol sometimes doesn't work properly.

What about the implementation team?

There are 30 to 35 members in my overall data engineering team who use GoAnywhere MFT.

What was our ROI?

GoAnywhere MFT saves a lot of time because it automates approximately 20% to 30% of manual work. In terms of money, it really saves 30% to 40%. We can make it 30% to 40% time saved with GoAnywhere MFT.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I think the price of GoAnywhere MFT is moderate because it's not much on the higher side and not also on the lower side. It's quite good, but it's a choice of my company's.

What other advice do I have?

As of now, I have used only Salesforce as a CRM with GoAnywhere MFT and some databases such as MySQL. I haven't started any ERP yet, but I am working on CRM such as the Salesforce platform.

When I was working as a full-stack developer at the start, I used Secure Forms once with GoAnywhere MFT, but not currently because I totally changed my career to data engineering.

I really want to recommend GoAnywhere MFT to others because it's really good for transferring files securely. There are many other tools available in the market, but this is affordable. We can afford it for small organizations. I have rated this solution 9 out of 10.

Easy to learn and facilitates data manipulation with Shell scripting

What is our primary use case?

We manipulate data in XML format. We parse the XML file and make modifications using shell scripting in the GoAnywhere MFT tool itself. After that, we place the files using FTP and SFTP protocols.

What is most valuable?

My favorite feature is shell scripting. When there is compatibility with the GoAnywhere MFT tool, we can implement shell scripting with respect to the functionality. 

I use Amazon S3 bucket connectors, FTP and SFTP connectors, and several DB connectors. All necessary information can be found in the GoAnywhere MFT documentation. If I am unfamiliar with any connector, I first consult the documentation. After reviewing the documentation, if changes or scripting are needed, I opt for shell scripting. Otherwise, I proceed with the existing configuration. I used SSL security certifications for security purposes.

What needs improvement?

Regarding data parsing on files such as XML and JSON, we mostly perform manipulations on the files themselves. I am unable to accomplish this with the predefined functions provided by GoAnywhere MFT, which is why I use shell scripting. It would be better if more predefined functions were included for these operations.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used GoAnywhere MFT for approximately 1.5 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

When running in production, it operates smoothly, but on a local system, there might be issues due to load balancing.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability was very good.

How are customer service and support?

Initially during my training period, I contacted the technical team. However, I didn't receive responses as quickly as expected, possibly due to limitations in L1 support.

I have used APIs as alternatives. In such cases, I use REST calls to pass the data, perform manipulations, get the response, and then continue with the flow.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment was very good. There wasn't any complexity. It was an easy process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing was handled by my project management and higher management team. I personally used a 30-day free trial account. I didn't take any subscriptions.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate GoAnywhere MFT a nine out of ten because it's quite good and easy to learn. If someone in IT is picking it up, they can typically master it within 10 to 20 days, so that's not a concern. The documentation is also well-written, which makes the learning process much simpler.

Automation streamlines file transfers and enhances data security

What is our primary use case?

My current use case is more about secure data or file transfers via the Fortra in our organization.

What is most valuable?

The automation part is my favorite feature, which is pretty easy and quick. I can schedule the transfers and it works fine. Every time a trigger is associated based on the schedule time, it transfers the files securely via the encryptions they have. The fantastic security securely transfers the data, addressing the compliances, which is fine for us.

I saw the benefits of GoAnywhere MFT before using it; there was a need in the organization, and then seniors determined to implement this.

What needs improvement?

The pricing is high for GoAnywhere MFT, and speed can be one of the features they can look forward to improving. We are based in India, so for the Indian market, the pricing is pretty high. Large organizations which have large files can use it, but for mid-size organizations, it's a heavy cost.

They can try implementing a feature of caching the data offline to the remote agents so that there should not be any loss of connectivity. This could be an improvement area.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using GoAnywhere MFT in my career for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

So far, there have been no issues related to lagging, crashing, or anything similar.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The overall scalability of GoAnywhere MFT is good.

How are customer service and support?

The quality and speed of the support were good. The issue was resolved within a day. It was related to some automation at the edge where we were trying for the workflow creation and it was not triggering. The folder and transmission of data were not triggered automatically. We reached out to them and it got sorted.

When I first started using GoAnywhere MFT, it was pretty easy. There were some KT sessions arranged by the seniors. Two or three sessions would be good enough to make anybody comfortable with the use cases of the solution.

We are just a user, a customer of Fortra or GoAnywhere.

The pricing is high for GoAnywhere MFT. For the Indian market, the pricing is particularly high.

I like the availability of automation features in goanywhere. Also the interface is really great and easy to use even for a first time user.

No negative as such. But sometimes I felt the customer service could be better.

What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about GoAnywhere MFT is the automation and visibility it gives us over file transfers. Earlier, we were relying on custom scripts and manual scheduling, which made it hard to track failures or prove compliance during audits. With GoAnywhere, every transfer is logged with detailed audit trails, so I don’t need to chase logs across multiple servers anymore.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the initial setup can feel a bit overwhelming because there are so many configuration options. Few features like PGP key management and advanced triggers weren’t immediately intuitive without digging through documentation. I also wish the web interface was a little more modern and responsive, as it can feel dated compared to other enterprise tools.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before GoAnywhere, we had multiple teams running their own file transfer scripts, which led to duplicate work, missed transfers, and no centralized logging. GoAnywhere MFT solved that by giving us a single platform where all transfers are automated, monitored, and secured.

The biggest benefit has been compliance—auditors now get full visibility into who sent what, when, and how. It also reduced the time we spend troubleshooting; instead of searching through server logs, we get instant alerts if something fails. Overall, it’s helped us standardize processes, cut down on errors, and save hours every week that used to be spent on manual checks.

What do you like best about the product?
It keeps file transfers safe and also makes it easier for students, staff, and administration to work together in one system. It also protects data and makes it easy for different departments to work together.
What do you dislike about the product?
getting meaningful insights into transfer patterns, performance trends, or usage analytics requires significant manual efforts.

Building complex file transfer processes with conditional logic, transformations, and multi-system integrations takes minutes instead of hours of scripting . Our admins can now handle workflows that used to require our senior developers.

What is our primary use case?

We are using GoAnywhere MFT for many resources such as SFTP and FTP. We can create projects, schedule triggers, monitor, and view log levels for file size verification. I work on the server level, agent, service manager, and memory-related issues. I use connectors for services such as Salesforce and SharePoint

In the Resource component, there is a Cloud Connector option where you can search for Salesforce or other connectors. For Salesforce, we need to configure items such as username, password, auth URL, and authentication type. The Salesforce developer team provides all the details for configuration in the Salesforce connectors. These external systems are integrated using connectors from external to internal systems.

I use GoAnywhere MFT Agents as coordinator and participant types. When one is shut down, we can work on another. The security policy includes Auth URL, auth security policy, and basic authentication in GoAnywhere MFT. It's web-based for external and internal users, providing user-friendly interfaces with SFTP and FTPS for security. For sensitive data, we can use secure forms or encrypt the data. We use TLS, SSL commands, Transport Layer Security, and Secure Socket Layer.

In my organization, approximately four members work with GoAnywhere MFT. On the business side, there are five to seven members who check code level or logs level, totaling nine people, including clients and organization members.

How has it helped my organization?

In my business case, it has saved about 30% in resources.

What is most valuable?

The best features of GoAnywhere MFT are its automated process capabilities. It is scalable, reliable, and requires minimal time to receive files from external to internal systems. It is more secure compared to other tools.

The solution provides excellent connectivity through its range of connectors. In the Resource component, there is a Cloud Connector option where users can search for various connectors like Salesforce. The configuration process requires setting up a username, password, auth URL, and authentication type. The Salesforce developer team provides all necessary details for configuring the Salesforce connectors, enabling integration between external and internal systems.

What needs improvement?

In GoAnywhere MFT, there are memory-related issues that need improvement. Sometimes it shows varying memory usage from 500 GB to 2 GB, and these issues can persist for multiple days.

The areas that could be improved include security-related automation, as files sometimes do not reach their destination on time. There is a need for upgrading older products and protocols. The security area needs enhancement, particularly in protocols such as FTPS and SSH key implementation. With numerous multi-factor authentication users and partners, security improvements are essential.

While the interfaces are satisfactory, automation needs improvement. Sometimes the configuration for automatic file transfer to target locations fails, so improvements are needed in both automation and security policy areas.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using GoAnywhere MFT for the last 3.5 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In terms of stability, I rate it at 8.5.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

For scalability, which refers to the capacity for my team and files, I find it to be scalable.

I consider it to be a 9 out of ten in terms of scalability.

How are customer service and support?

I rate the technical support for GoAnywhere MFT at 8.5 out of 10. The lower score is because I don't have access at the server level. If the MFT team provided all access, we could work single-handedly. Due to organizational policy, we don't have server-level access. Another team member manages server-related issues. We can share related issues and provide details. Sometimes we get help from the vendor, Fortra. We can raise cases with Fortra, who then suggests solutions to resolve issues.

How was the initial setup?

When deploying GoAnywhere MFT in your system, configuration is required at the server level. The process begins with downloading the file from the Fortra portal. Fortra provides comprehensive documentation on installation and command usage. After downloading, server-level configuration is performed using Linux or another operating system.

For project deployment, creation begins in the development environment. The developer team provides XML or zip folders, which are then extracted and moved to the test environment. Testing ensures files reach their target location. After successful testing, the project moves to production. Postman is used for testing functionality in production. Server-level checking includes agent and resource verification, protocol testing, and logs level checking.

What was our ROI?

The return on investment depends on financial and resource type factors.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing for GoAnywhere MFT is inexpensive compared to other solutions.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Compared to products such as Axway and IBM Sterling tools, GoAnywhere MFT is more scalable, reliable, and cost-effective while maintaining security. If issues arise with GoAnywhere MFT, users can contact the Fortra team for support. Axway lacks vendor support, is less reliable, and more expensive. IBM Sterling, which many organizations use, offers similar features to GoAnywhere MFT, and both have dedicated support teams through their respective vendors.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend GoAnywhere MFT to other users. Currently, 80% of the market uses GoAnywhere MFT because it is secure, scalable, reliable, and easy to implement or deploy. Users can get help from team members or reach out to vendors for support and collaboration. 

The overall solution rating I would give it is a 9 out of 10.

What is our primary use case?

As a DevOps specialist, I have been using GoAnywhere MFT for about six to seven months, mostly working on setting up automation for file transfer, handling integration, and monitoring secure data and exchange between our system partners.

I used GoAnywhere MFT in my last company, where there were approximately 200 to 220 employees who used this system to share files.

What is most valuable?

GoAnywhere MFT has many features that I appreciate, but most of all, it automates repetitive file transfers, so we don't have to waste our time doing them manually.

It supports many protocols, such as SFTP and FTP, which makes it easy to work with different partners.

The logging and audit trails are very detailed, which helps me and my team with compliance and troubleshooting.

The system is quite reliable. The transfers rarely fail, and if they do, we get alerts immediately, as it has the best monitoring and logging.

Since it's not difficult to deploy with the cloud, it takes around one week. It depends on the manpower and the team. Our team consists of nearly 13 people, and they are the best at their work. We approximately need one week to completely deploy it on any system.

What needs improvement?

It's somewhat expensive compared to smaller solutions, but the features and compliance value made it worth it for our company.

I am a user, and there are head seniors who maintain the entire relationship with the vendor. I just had one or two meetings with the vendor to discuss troubleshooting problems.

The range of connectors that GoAnywhere provides requires some planning because I basically integrate it with ERP and cloud storage such as AWS S3 and Azure, and some internal databases.

Once we set it up, the workflows run smoothly.

I would rate the technical support an eight out of ten.

In implementation, use cases and compliance need more implementation, and they should make use of automation features, as that's where you get the real value.

We also used to provide our team with basic training so they can adopt it quickly.

I would recommend GoAnywhere MFT to other users.

I would give it an eight out of ten because it's a very useful software platform to use for secure file transferring, and it's very helpful for benefiting any organization.

What do you like best about the product?
In my eyes I'm a long time user of GoAnywhere 5ish years and use it often. My favorite thing about GoAnywhere is it's extensibility. It truly can go anywhere, if you know what you're doing. I've written custom integration connections with DayForce, NetSuite (JODBC, SOAP, and REST), Prophet 21, and BigQuery all with GoAnywhere's custom cloud connector support.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't like that I can't open multiple workflows / addons at once, without issues saving. As a power user, when things get complicated I don't like that issues can be hard to track down at times. Project organization and documentation is limited.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use or have used GoAnywhere for ERP integrations, web services integrations, and EDI workflows among other random one-off use cases.

Automation of file transfers improves workflow efficiency

What is our primary use case?

The main job for GoAnywhere MFT is to transfer the data in both ways, so it encrypts the file and all the large file is securely transferred to the sources; that's the main use case for that particular product.

What is most valuable?

The automation part of GoAnywhere MFT is the best feature which we appreciate, as we can schedule the transfer, and the manual job which we used to do early to do the transfers each time has been removed. Once we do the complete automation job, it can be done by default, so we can set up the time, we can set all the files which need to be transferred, and it works fantastically.

What needs improvement?

When we transfer large files using GoAnywhere MFT, it sometimes lags and takes more time, so that is something that can be improved; otherwise, it's fine.

Regarding integration, the hyper-local tools which are needed are not currently available. If they can integrate those as well as SQL or Oracle which they already have, including Amazon, it can help beyond the SharePoint and Google Drive which they already have.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using GoAnywhere MFT in my career for eight to ten months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The only stability issue observed is the large file transfer lagging in GoAnywhere MFT. If this could be resolved faster, it would be great; other than that, there aren't any other issues to be fixed.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability in GoAnywhere MFT is fine. We can create different admins there, so it is flexible at that level. That has not been a problem so far; it's good.

How are customer service and support?

The speed and quality of the customer support for GoAnywhere MFT are fine. There are different plans where faster response is available in the premium or ultra-premium plans. In our case, they usually reply within one day and resolve the query. I would give them an 8 or 8.5 on a scale from one to 10 for support. I have contacted their technical support and customer support regarding GoAnywhere MFT.

How would you rate customer service and support?

How was the initial setup?

When doing the setup for GoAnywhere MFT, it took three to four weeks. Once we learned about it, it became manageable. It took approximately three to four weeks to fully deploy GoAnywhere MFT.

What about the implementation team?

In my team, there were four more individuals required for this deployment, and we were involved in that project. Not all of them were in the integration process, but two or three were working on the setup.

What other advice do I have?

I rate GoAnywhere MFT a nine out of ten.
