Alerting precision has reduced incident response times and improved department-level network visibility

  • October 06, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for PRTG Network Monitor is that I really appreciate the alerting system, allowing me to see when and how long each issue has lasted. The auto-pause for sensors during maintenance windows is awesome, as there are no false alerts till now. Additionally, the built-in SNMP tester tool has saved me multiple times during setups, making PRTG Network Monitor a one-stop monitoring solution for my industry.

Its ability to clone the sensors with all the settings intact is a huge time-saver for me. Apart from that, everything looks positive from my end.

What is most valuable?

The auto-pause sensor during the maintenance window is good without any false alerts, and it prevents me from getting flooded with alerts during planned maintenance, helping department heads understand their own network usage better. It has reduced incident response time by giving clearer ownership of each alert, ensuring alerts go to the proper recipient.

SNMP testers and auto-pause are among the best features of PRTG Network Monitor, which is particularly useful for different departments such as HR and finance, where alerts can be filtered accordingly.

The alerting features and dashboard of PRTG Network Monitor are very helpful, especially in our industry. However, the dashboard can look cluttered on smaller screens, which is one negative aspect.

PRTG Network Monitor has impacted us positively; we have stopped getting flooded with alerts during planned maintenance or unplanned outages. Compared to others, this gives specific alerts very quickly and helps department heads understand their own network usage better, thus reducing incident response time so that each alert has clear ownership.

What needs improvement?

There could be improvements to PRTG Network Monitor by adding a dark mode instead of white screens all day during the daytime or during the night. Additionally, dashboards can look cluttered on smaller screens, and the UI can feel crowded when there are hundreds of sensors in one group.

Sometimes, SNMP devices need custom OIDs that aren't auto-discovered, which requires additional work. Moreover, sensor names should be renamed manually when cloning, so it would be better if everything were done automatically.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using PRTG Network Monitor for more than two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

PRTG Network Monitor is absolutely stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

PRTG Network Monitor's scalability is great. We receive instant customer care support when we are stuck or need assistance understanding the matrices, as they offer 24/7 customer care support.

How are customer service and support?

I rate the customer support for PRTG Network Monitor a 10 because they never charge anything extra for support, resolve our queries 24/7, and follow up if the same issue persists, making regular follow-ups.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Earlier we were using a different solution called Redwood RMJ, RunMyJobs, to run all our bad jobs, but that was for a different purpose. We did not switch to PRTG Network Monitor; it was our first and foremost go-to product.

How was the initial setup?

Setup was done with the vendor support team and our in-house team.

What about the implementation team?

The total number of employees needed for setup and deployment for monitoring purposes are around 30 to 40 people.

What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment with PRTG Network Monitor. The overall number of employees needed for setup and deployment for monitoring purposes are around 30 to 40 people. In the first year, the overall return was approximately $7,000, leading to good returns.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing, setup cost, and licensing for PRTG Network Monitor are a bit expensive, but the recurring licensing is not a huge expense. Setup was done with the vendor support team and our in-house team. The licensing part is a recurring license for every year, which is very affordable, making PRTG Network Monitor budget-friendly.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not evaluate other options; we chose PRTG Network Monitor as our first and only option.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise others looking into using PRTG Network Monitor to consider this product, as it is one of the best IT monitoring tools available, providing proper alerts on time for all critical issues and ensuring a dedicated group of recipients.

Everything with PRTG Network Monitor is running smoothly. We haven't hit any roadblocks, so I'm satisfied with what we have.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate PRTG Network Monitor a 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy To Handle IT Monitoring With PRTG

  • September 27, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
* I appreciate the cluster failover — when my main monitoring server went down for maintenance, the backup kept everything running smoothly.
* The “sensor factory” is underrated; I combined multiple sensor readings into one custom KPI for management.
* I like that I can quickly filter sensors by status, so I only see what’s in warning or error state.
What do you dislike about the product?
The update process sometimes requires a manual restart, which interrupts monitoring briefly.
* I wish the color scheme on graphs was more customizable.
* The built-in alerts could look more polished.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It warned me of high latency between our two data centers — helped prevent a replication failure.
* Helped me prove to management that slowdowns were due to ISP problems, not internal servers.
* Cut troubleshooting time drastically by showing the exact hop where packets were dropping

PRTG Excellent IT monitoring Tool for IT ORGANIZATION

  • September 25, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The “acknowledge alarm” option is very useful — my team knows if I’m already working on an issue, so we don’t duplicate effort.

I like that PRTG retains historical data for years; I once used it to compare performance during the same quarter across different years.

Creating a custom dashboard for management with simple red/green indicators earned me a lot of appreciation
What do you dislike about the product?
The desktop client feels less useful compared to the web interface.

Initial probe installation on remote sites needed some tweaking to work smoothly.

Some default graphs look cluttered if too many metrics are displayed together.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I tracked down a memory leak in one of our internal apps because PRTG showed RAM usage creeping up every night.

Reduced downtime because I can take corrective steps before users raise tickets.

It helps me justify infrastructure upgrades with solid data, not guesswork.

Monitoring has become proactive and issues are resolved in real time with clear dashboard insights

  • September 25, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for PRTG Network Monitor is monitoring jobs.

A specific example of a job or system I monitor with PRTG Network Monitor is the network devices we use to check the connectivity between the websites and the jobs that are running to keep them up and running.

What is most valuable?

The best features PRTG Network Monitor offers that I find most helpful allow me to analyze and check the jobs and what is causing the issue and why it is happening. I actually found one critical job which we did not notice by ourselves, but this tool found it and helped us so that I got a good appreciation from my manager. This has been very useful for us to monitor these kinds of jobs.

PRTG Network Monitor helped me find that critical job through an alert which sends us reports on a weekly basis, and based on that, we found the failed job.

PRTG Network Monitor has a good dashboard that shows each and every piece of information, so we can easily find out what is happening with the systems. If anything is going down, I can easily identify and fix it immediately and make sure our systems are healthy.

PRTG Network Monitor has positively impacted my organization as we are not seeing any critical issues or major impacts for our applications, our servers, and our networks nowadays. Because of this monitoring dashboard, we can easily find out what's happening and fix everything on the fly. Before that, it was very difficult to check what happened and where the servers were impacted and which servers got impacted if any major disaster happened.

What needs improvement?

I don't see any major issues with PRTG Network Monitor, but I want to mention that sometimes the error messages are too vague and don't directly tell me what went wrong. If they improve that feature, it will be beneficial for us.

There are no other improvements I think are needed for PRTG Network Monitor.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for more than five months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

PRTG Network Monitor is stable; as of now, there are no downtime or reliability issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

PRTG Network Monitor's scalability is very good; it can easily handle the growing needs or more devices we have in our organization as part of the project.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for PRTG Network Monitor is good; we are getting solutions on time, and they are very helpful.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different solution before PRTG Network Monitor. We used to monitor each and every server by ourselves, but now we are using PRTG Network Monitor.

What was our ROI?

After introducing PRTG Network Monitor, we have saved time, and it's easy for everybody to monitor everything.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is pretty vague because it's not from my end. It's the management who worked on the backend, so I really don't know the cost.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not evaluate other options before choosing PRTG Network Monitor; this is the one we chose.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others looking into using PRTG Network Monitor is that it is a very useful tool that saves your time and minimizes your efforts. We can make everything visible on one screen, and it can be monitored all in one place. If there are any issues with the systems or servers, they can be fixed on the fly. On a scale of one to ten, I rate PRTG Network Monitor a ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Paessler Made IT Monitoring Easy

  • September 24, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how PRTG shows the cause and effect clearly — for example, when our internet link failed, it also showed which dependent services were impacted.

The built-in QR codes for devices are handy — I printed them on servers, so scanning takes me straight to that device’s dashboard.

I enjoy the flexibility of notifications — I set mine to send me a push alert only if a sensor stays down for more than 5 minutes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some vendor-specific sensors (like for older hardware) don’t always provide consistent results.

I wish the dark mode theme was more polished; I use it a lot in the NOC.

When I edit multiple sensors at once, the UI sometimes feels a little slow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helped me detect a failing RAID controller before it completely collapsed — avoided potential data loss.

Improved communication with my team since everyone can see the same dashboards.

Saves me from constant manual checks; everything I care about is automatically tracked.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
PRTG is a very informative and well structed designed dashboard. This makes it easy to monitor, simple, and effective for our IT infrastructure team. It is useful for us to track a wide range of applications, devices, and cloud services, and it also helps us to make proactive decisions and resolve the issue before users may impacts field users. These features make it more insightful into clear performance and availability.
What do you dislike about the product?
PRTG is a powerful tool; the first learning curve can be a step for a first-time user due to the vast number of features. Additionally, it is a licensing platform model based on these sensors, which makes it a more costly environment. And also, the interface feels a bit slow during a large number of deploys.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Paesslet PRTG is very useful for me to identify application breakdowns the slowdowns of the application, or performance issues overall in the applications in the real world. It was difficult to figure out the root cause analysis from point to point in application performance issues like downgrades, downtime. It makes it easier for me to get instant alerts and monitoring dashboards to troubleshoot much faster. And it saves me many manual efforts in monitoring since everything is automated. This helps me benefit by reducing downtime and giving better visibility of overall application health. It ensures a smoother end-user experience.
