Highly customizable and incredibly useful monitoring

  • May 07, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
PRTG is extremely customizable, providing insight where it's been needed the most. While the out of the box deployment helped pull in 90% of the metrics and insights we were looking for, the ability to get into the granular details of everything else is amazing. It's extremely easy to setup and use making it a great product over all. It's used daily to ensure a smooth running network.
What do you dislike about the product?
Only complaint I would have would be a better built in tie in to more robust graphing tools like Grafana
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Primary focus is on networking, it has helped identify bandwidth issues and configuration issues before any user has been able to report it.

Good enough

What do you like best about the product?
It's great to have a tool that notifies every disruption or degradation of devices or services. But sometimes I think should be upgraded to a modern paradigm, not just notifying, maybe automating actions or a better algorithm to define what is really critical, because not everything needs attention in the specific, sometimes we need groups of events to define a real critical alert.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think its overwhelming, it causes some anxiety because its logical to notify almost everything, but it was great when notifying used to be one time a day, by an email, not now when we have notifications every minute.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Its great to know critical situations just in time.

Using PRTG since 2017, evolving from PRTG1000 to PRTG Enterprise, consistently met my expectations.

What do you like best about the product?
What I like most about PRTG is how easy it is to use. Setting things up is straightforward, sensor integration is simple, and building dashboards with Maps is easy. Reporting is quick, network analysis with NetFlow works great, and the alerting system covers everything from email to custom sound alerts. It just works well. The setup was smooth, and I use PRTG regularly for monitoring. Paessler’s customer support is always helpful when needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, I don’t have many complaints about PRTG. But if I could suggest a few improvements, it would be great to have performance monitoring through telemetry, and maybe an integration with Prometheus. It’d also be awesome to have more interactive dashboard panels, like what you get with Grafana. And it’d be perfect if we could set custom sound alerts directly from the web interface, not just from the PRTG desktop.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PRTG helps me a lot by making monitoring easy from the start. It’s simple to deploy, adding sensors is quick, and the knowledge base along with Paessler’s support is really helpful. Managing user access is also easy because the features are well-organized and straightforward to assign. The user interface is friendly, so even those without previous experience can operate it with just a bit of guidance. Reading the graphs still requires someone who understands the system well, but overall usability is excellent. Reporting is easy to use, and the generated results look clean and ready to share. I do wish there was an option to add a custom logo to the report headers. Integration with webhooks like Telegram is also much easier compared to other tools. Overall, PRTG has simplified many tasks for me and helped save a lot of time.

What do you dislike about the product?
There is actually nothing to criticize about PRTG.

Most simple deployable yet versatile monitoring tool

  • April 30, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The great thing about PRTG is that you can gain insight into your infrastructure very quickly. Not only via SMNP but a wide range of protocols can be used. The templates also make it very easy to implement complicated monitoring.
What do you dislike about the product?
Well, price can be a barrier for some. This is done with tiers at the moment. Unlimited numbers of sensors is no longer possible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Wide range of applications on various products such as networks, servers, but also temperature monitoring and power supplies

We have benefited from the simplicity and on-premises deployment capabilities of our monitoring solution

  • April 28, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

Currently, I only use PRTG Network Monitor for triggering the SQL Server. I query the SQL Server for some data and then generate the output. So, that's the process that I am using now with PRTG Network Monitor.

What is most valuable?

The simplicity is what I appreciate about PRTG Network Monitor. Additionally, it is advantageous because it can be deployed on-premises. This is a crucial factor for me as I operate in an air-gapped environment with no internet allowed. PRTG Network Monitor is the only solution I use here. I also use the alert features, especially the user-friendly mobile app feature.

What needs improvement?

The user interface could be more modern as it is quite dated. PRTG Network Monitor can sometimes be too detailed and cluttered at the beginning, making it heavy to use.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using PRTG Network Monitor since 2016 or 2017. It has been quite a long time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the stability as nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I haven't gone beyond monitoring thousands of devices, so I don't have experience with large scalability, but for less than one hundred devices, it is stable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have switched from PRTG Network Monitor to DataDog. I am also using AWS managed services for hosting.

How was the initial setup?

The setup process is simple.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is in the middle. It's not too high, nor too low, but it's reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate PRTG Network Monitor as eight out of ten. AI features were mentioned, but I haven't updated PRTG Network Monitor for quite some time, so I am unsure about these new features.

Premium monitoring software with lots of customizability and an afordable prize

  • April 15, 2025
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Highly customizable monitoring platform with plenty of pre-set sensors and good report and ticketing system. Its API allows ease of integration on any platform needed, and its alert system allows us to heavily automate network procedures.
What do you dislike about the product?
Maps and dashboards need to be done manually and might be a bit lacking. System stability somewhat lacking on high demand installations (but this might be due to being Windows based instead of Linux based).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PRTG gives us visibility on underlying issues our IT and Network might have.

    Consumer Services

Great tool at a great value.

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use. Ease of Implementation. Great for alerts and notifications. Great flexibility to monitor Network, Servers, Applications and any device that supports SNMP.
What do you dislike about the product?
Customer Support - Only communicating via Email.
You can't stack different sensors on one graph.
You can't see the Spikes on bandwidth utilization over time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Its our main monitoring tool. We can have an overview of the status of the network, applications and services in one screen. We get alerts and notifications when something is out of order.

What do you like best about the product?
It’s very user friendly to compare with Zabbix or Solarwinds.
What do you dislike about the product?
The only thing that is painful is limited to sensor. I couldn’t find website monitoring (being up or down),
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Overload traffic
