PRTG: Simply Brilliant
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about Paessler PRTG is its all-in-one monitoring capability and intuitive interface. It allows me to monitor servers, network devices, applications, and services from a single dashboard. The customizable alerts and reports are extremely powerful, helping us detect issues before they affect end users. Plus, the setup is straightforward, even for complex environments.
What do you dislike about the product?
While PRTG is a powerful tool, its initial configuration can be a bit overwhelming for new users. Some advanced features require a deeper understanding or additional fine-tuning to get the most out of them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PRTG helps us detect and resolve network issues before they impact users by providing real-time visibility across our entire IT infrastructure. It centralizes monitoring of servers, bandwidth, applications, and devices, which reduces downtime and support requests. This has significantly improved our operational efficiency, helped us plan capacity proactively, and strengthened our overall IT governance.
A Critical Piece of My Network Monitoring
What do you like best about the product?
PRTG has allowed me to create an at-a-glance status overview of the key components of my network so I can be certain everything is up and running before the doctors start seeing patients each day. In addition, the alerts I have set on those and a few other devices in the network notify me 24/7 if there is any king of outage, often letting me address it before the users even know it is happening. I could not do my job nearly as well without it. Rollout and setup were easy. PRTG scanned my network and found the devices that I needed to manage and using several techniques can present me with an almost overwhelming number of things to monitor for each device. These are easy enough to turn off so that seeing what is important isn't a needle in a haystack situation. Any questions I have had have been quickly resolved in their support forums. I am a one-man show, so PRTG has effectively given me an extra set of eyes that I desperately needed. I'm both the admin and the user.
What do you dislike about the product?
About my only complaint is that there is one hassle in managing maps (the dashboard tool) that hasn't been addressed yet, though it has been an issue for several years. But there is a workaround for this, and it is literally my only complaint, so there is not much to dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Visibility of my multi-site network, spread across the state, would be a major problem for me as a one-man show. The alerts that PRTG sends me, both SMS and email, keep me aware of what is happening at the minute it occurs allowing me to respond in the timeliest fashion possilbe.
Highly customizable and incredibly useful monitoring
What do you like best about the product?
PRTG is extremely customizable, providing insight where it's been needed the most. While the out of the box deployment helped pull in 90% of the metrics and insights we were looking for, the ability to get into the granular details of everything else is amazing. It's extremely easy to setup and use making it a great product over all. It's used daily to ensure a smooth running network.
What do you dislike about the product?
Only complaint I would have would be a better built in tie in to more robust graphing tools like Grafana
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Primary focus is on networking, it has helped identify bandwidth issues and configuration issues before any user has been able to report it.
Good enough
What do you like best about the product?
It's great to have a tool that notifies every disruption or degradation of devices or services. But sometimes I think should be upgraded to a modern paradigm, not just notifying, maybe automating actions or a better algorithm to define what is really critical, because not everything needs attention in the specific, sometimes we need groups of events to define a real critical alert.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think its overwhelming, it causes some anxiety because its logical to notify almost everything, but it was great when notifying used to be one time a day, by an email, not now when we have notifications every minute.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Its great to know critical situations just in time.
Using PRTG since 2017, evolving from PRTG1000 to PRTG Enterprise, consistently met my expectations.
What do you like best about the product?
What I like most about PRTG is how easy it is to use. Setting things up is straightforward, sensor integration is simple, and building dashboards with Maps is easy. Reporting is quick, network analysis with NetFlow works great, and the alerting system covers everything from email to custom sound alerts. It just works well. The setup was smooth, and I use PRTG regularly for monitoring. Paessler’s customer support is always helpful when needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, I don’t have many complaints about PRTG. But if I could suggest a few improvements, it would be great to have performance monitoring through telemetry, and maybe an integration with Prometheus. It’d also be awesome to have more interactive dashboard panels, like what you get with Grafana. And it’d be perfect if we could set custom sound alerts directly from the web interface, not just from the PRTG desktop.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PRTG helps me a lot by making monitoring easy from the start. It’s simple to deploy, adding sensors is quick, and the knowledge base along with Paessler’s support is really helpful. Managing user access is also easy because the features are well-organized and straightforward to assign. The user interface is friendly, so even those without previous experience can operate it with just a bit of guidance. Reading the graphs still requires someone who understands the system well, but overall usability is excellent. Reporting is easy to use, and the generated results look clean and ready to share. I do wish there was an option to add a custom logo to the report headers. Integration with webhooks like Telegram is also much easier compared to other tools. Overall, PRTG has simplified many tasks for me and helped save a lot of time.
