LaunchDarkly: an awesome tool for running experiments

  • May 07, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
LaunchDarkly is great for experimentation. It has helpful features like waterfall rules which allow you to carefully define groups for testing and create allowlists for who can see a given feature. It has options to target segments, individuals, mobile vs desktop, or build a custom rule
What do you dislike about the product?
Saving your changes can be a bit unituitive, when you request a review and someone approves a LD flag change, the change does not go into effect immediately, rather you have to apply the change. It would be nice to have functionality to be able to setup a review so that an approval of changes automatically applies those changes
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
LaunchDarkly enables us to run A/B tests on new product launches

Good enough

  • May 06, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It get the job done and let's us update things live in production. A recent example was where we added the ability to change what region of a service we hit due to downtime on their end without having to do a deploy. I want to see us make better use of A/B testing and similar features in the future. I think we will find even more value there.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest is that it seems to have stability issues. We have a Slack channel the updates as our services encounter and recover from issues and I see LaunchDarkly more often than most other services we use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It allows us to test and release features independant of doing deploys. It also lets us update configuration without doing deploys.

Simple and effective tool

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
LaunchDarkly has made controlled feature releases easy. It is our default tool to use for releases, and making rules and segments of users is intuitive. I love the feature to compare flag differences between environments.
What do you dislike about the product?
When looking at contexts in LaunchDarkly, I couldn't find any documentation on the difference between LDRelay source vs JSClient.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Targeting individual users and segments of users based on specific properties. This makes feature releases targeted and easy to control and turn off if necessary.

Launch Darkly For Complete App rewrite

  • May 06, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We have used launch darkly to completely revamp our front end app using LaunchDarkly flags. We have
What do you dislike about the product?
The ordering of segments can be a little confusing. We ran into an issue where if we write an opt in segment using a query param, it HAS to be first in the rule set to work properly. Individual targetting tends to break things up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were able to rewrite our app page by page using LD.

Experimentation simplified

  • May 06, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The user experience is great and the layout is straightforward. You can configure experiments based on customizable attributes like user ID, email etc. to ensure only your target cohort sees the A/B test experience
What do you dislike about the product?
If you want to update a flag in multiple enviornments you need to go into configurations for each enviornment and update them separately. Would be nice to have tabs or a way to navigate on the same screen between different environments
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Running experiments for feature launches

Effective, fun and convenient to work with LD

  • May 05, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The convenience of viewing and simplicity, without too many complications, you can tell from the main page which feature flags serve true/false and the statistics and the ease of operation.
What do you dislike about the product?
Many times I want to get a snapshot of a certain feature (which can include several feature flags or even different accounts under LD) and apart from manually going through each of the feature flags, I don't have a convenient way to do it.

So both in terms of viewing and in terms of control, I would be happy to unify the number of feature flags under the same "group" for viewing/control.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The danger of changing a code that many rely on separately without testing it gradually/possibility to turn it off if something happens.

LD meets exactly this need.

    Computer Software

LD has been a consistent, reliable, and often used tool in our tool chain.

What do you like best about the product?
Mostly that it's reliable. The usage graphs are handy. Once set up, the toggles are generally pretty easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's gotten harder to setup a simple flag. There are different wizards for flag setup and it's still not immediately clear why. It doesn't seem like it should be something that requires extensive documentation. I would prefer a page with all the possible toggles and buttons to customize a flag, instead of a wizard that describes potential use cases for how to use a precreated flag. I don't trust the wizard knows how I use LD flags, nor do i fully understand what it means. For example a flag is used for "migrations" - what does that truly mean. I don't want to read through documentation assuming an abstraction. All I need to know is when it's on and when it's off and the possible configuration I can give it. The wizard assumes too much of a use case without explaining how it actually works. I would prefer to know what exactly it does, and maybe have documentation that provides potential use cases.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Feature management. If we are migrating to a new feature, or want to do testing. Primarily a true/false switch that has extra parameters for user, company, project, whatever. Seems pretty replaceable to be honest.

Very useful feature flag product

  • May 03, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
How easy it is to turn on and off each flag.
What do you dislike about the product?
The inclusion of the code to manage the flags is not so strightforward, and less if you want to use some other extra features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It solves that we can release features safely and we can turn them on and off to test in a timely manner.
