Unified Observability and Advanced Diagnostics with New Relic
What do you like best about the product?
New Relic is a robust and unified observability platform that leverages the NRDB database. It brings together all types of telemetry metrics, events, logs, and traces enabling comprehensive analysis through NRQL. Among its standout features are advanced APM capabilities for in-depth code diagnostics and essential Distributed Tracing, which helps visualize microservices architectures. The platform also provides strong Infrastructure Monitoring, including support for Kubernetes, as well as user experience tools such as Synthetics and RUM. Additionally, its AI-powered AIOps effectively correlates alerts and identifies anomalies, empowering engineering teams to proactively debug and optimize their entire technology stack.
What do you dislike about the product?
New Relic's primary drawbacks center on cost and complexity. Pricing quickly escalates due to high data ingestion volume and expensive full-stack user licenses, creating budget unpredictability. The platform also has a steep learning curve, requiring significant investment to master all components and the proprietary NRQL query language. A further drawback is strong vendor lock-in, as all telemetry is stored in the proprietary NRDB, making data extraction difficult. Finally, the necessary APM and Infrastructure agents can introduce noticeable CPU and memory overhead, impacting application performance in resource-constrained environments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
New Relic solves the core problem of observability silos by unifying all performance data—metrics, logs, and traces—into a single platform (NRDB). This centralization drastically reduces the Mean Time To Resolution (MTTR), eliminating the need to swivel between tools during an incident. Key benefits include gaining instant full-stack visibility from code execution (APM) to user experience (RUM). By providing AI-driven correlation across microservices via Distributed Tracing , New Relic helps teams quickly pinpoint the root cause of performance bottlenecks and infrastructure issues, leading to improved application stability and reliability.

Powerful Monitoring with Minor Setup Complexities
What do you like best about the product?
I really appreciate New Relic's clear end-to-end visibility across applications, infrastructure, logs, and traces, all in one place. This comprehensive insight is incredibly valuable for quickly identifying exactly where issues occur across services. The powerful dashboard and real-time performance insights provided by New Relic make monitoring straightforward and proactive, ensuring that I can address potential problems before they impact my services. The integration capabilities with tools like Slack, PagerDuty, or Microsoft Teams for alerts, as well as logging tools like Splunk or ELK for deeper analysis, are particularly beneficial. The platform's ability to provide full visibility into infrastructure, API, frontend, and mobile performance has helped my team transition from older tools like Nagios and Zabbix to New Relic for more comprehensive and real-time monitoring needs. Overall, these features make New Relic a powerful tool for maintaining optimal application and infrastructure performance.
What do you dislike about the product?
New Relic can be complex to set up for beginners and may generate alert noise or false positives. Monitoring large systems can be costly, and custom or legacy components sometimes need extra effort to track.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use New Relic for end-to-end visibility in infrastructure and performance, quickly identifying and resolving production issues with real-time insights, simplifying and proactive monitoring.
New Relic: Unmatched Observability for Faster Fixes, but Prepare for a Feature Heavy Interface
What do you like best about the product?
As a user, what I value most is having a comprehensive, unified view of our entire technology stack on a single platform. The NRQL query language stands out as exceptional, enabling us to pose detailed questions about all our application, log, and infrastructure data in one place. This capability has significantly reduced the time it takes to troubleshoot issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main challenge I face is the steep learning curve caused by the overwhelming number of features. For new team members, the interface often appears cluttered and can be difficult to navigate, which makes it hard to quickly locate the specific metrics or logs needed for troubleshooting. This complexity tends to slow down the onboarding process.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
New Relic addresses the challenge of having monitoring data scattered and isolated across our complex, modern software architecture. Previously, we needed to consult several different tools for logs, metrics, and traces just to diagnose a single issue.
The main advantage is a significant decrease in Mean Time To Resolution (MTTR). By bringing all our data together in one platform and automatically correlating it with features such as Distributed Tracing, we are able to quickly identify the root cause from the initial user click all the way to the database query and resolve production problems up to five times faster than before.

Streamlined Observability with Seamless API Integration
What do you like best about the product?
I love how New Relic provides full-stack observability across our mobile apps, backend services, APIs, and infrastructure, making it invaluable for monitoring performance, detecting issues early, analyzing logs, and maintaining reliability across our entire system. The ability to bring metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerts into a single unified platform offers true end-to-end visibility and eliminates the need for multiple tools. This cohesiveness streamlines our process and enhances efficiency. The ease of integration between APIs and mobile interfaces is another standout feature, which, combined with seamless API ↔ mobile linkage, allows quick debugging through tracing an entire request flow from mobile client to API and back. Additionally, the onboarding experience was extremely smooth due to well-documented installation steps, effective auto-instrumentation, and meaningful auto-generated dashboards. This simplified integration allowed us to start capturing real data within minutes, making it an effective and engineering-first solution compared to CleverTap, which we previously used.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find the dashboard feature in New Relic lacks a drag-and-drop functionality, making it difficult to build. It could be more flexible and easier to work with. The absence of customizable layouts, effective global filters, and faster load times hinders usability. Additionally, relying heavily on NRQL for creating complex views is cumbersome. Enhancements such as versioning, richer drill-downs, mobile-friendly layouts, and improved collaboration tools are needed to improve the overall dashboard experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use New Relic for full-stack observability, providing comprehensive visibility across mobile apps and backend services, allowing us to monitor performance, detect issues early, and maintain system reliability. It simplifies monitoring by unifying metrics, logs, and traces, enhancing our debugging and operational efficiency.
