    Emre Yiğit

An easy-to-deploy and easy-to-use tool meant for enterprise-sized companies

  • October 04, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My company does not specifically focus on selling the solution to a particular sector. My company generally sells the solution to various sectors, including manufacturing and finance.

What is most valuable?

Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog is a compact tool. Many products operate as a data system solution or as a data catalog tool. The product is helpful when it comes to data transformation. If you would like to solve specific data-related problems, Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog can serve as a useful product.

What needs improvement?

I cannot specifically point out an area in Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog that needs improvement since it properly functions as a data catalog tool. You cannot use something like Atlas to get catalog ranges, making Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog a comparatively powerful tool. The UX and UI of the solution are areas with certain shortcomings where improvements can be made in the future.

If I want to get some extra features in the product, I can contact Informatica's research and development team, who can add some new features to the product and make the tool available in the market.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog for more than ten years. My company has a partnership with Informatica.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Though there are some bugs in the solution, Informatica's research and development team, along with Informatica's customer service team, supports my company in solving such bug-related issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog can be a good solution that is really easy to use when it comes to enterprise-sized companies, but it may pose some challenges for small and medium-sized companies.

Most companies to whom my company provides the solution are enterprise-sized businesses.

How are customer service and support?

I rate the technical support a ten out of ten. My company has a partnership with Informatica, and we provide Informatica's products to the end users or customers. Informatica has to provide my company with good support in order to hold on to its customers who deal with my company.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

I rate the product's initial setup a nine and a half to ten on a scale of one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy.

Most of the companies to whom my company provides the solution deploy it on an on-premises model. My company also sells the cloud version of the solution while also offering our customers the option to move from on-premises to the cloud version of the solution.

My wife runs a pharmacy, and she uses an ERP solution for sales-related activities, the data of which I can move to the cloud in ten minutes if she chooses Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog.

What was our ROI?

With Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog, measuring the return on investment can be hard. I rate the return on investment a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is zero return on investment, and ten is a hundred percent return on investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the product is something that may vary from customer to customer. I rate the product's pricing a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

If a customer or business wants to easily maintain their data domains, they can opt for Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog.

I rate the overall product an eight to nine out of ten.

A stable and reliable solution for enhanced data excellence

  • October 03, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use it for various use cases, including data provisioning, data validation, continuous monitoring of data quality, and data standardization.

What is most valuable?

We have implemented both data profiling and data quality transformations for data validation. These are the two major components we rely on, with data profiling helping us understand the data's characteristics, and data quality transformations ensuring data validation.

What needs improvement?

Exploring the possibility of incorporating AI capabilities that can suggest additional rules would significantly streamline our data analysis process following data profiling. Many other tools offer this feature, enabling them to suggest rules, which can be generated with just one or two clicks.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with it for almost seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Once it was implemented, we din not encounter any stability issues. I would rate it nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the solution depends heavily on the design approach. Regardless of the tool used, the effectiveness of the data quality framework hinges on proper design. If the framework is not well-designed, it may not deliver the desired results. I would rate it eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

We receive excellent support on a priority basis. I would rate it nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

I would rate the installation and configuration process as moderately complex.

What other advice do I have?

If it has been implemented effectively, I would say it is the best solution. When considering the use of the data governance package, combining Axon ADC and Informatica Data Quality together provides a comprehensive approach. I would rate it eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Optimize business processes while ensuring that users see a return on their investment from the use of the product

  • September 26, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The use cases attached to Informatica MDM may vary for different industries. Suppose I talk about industries related to healthcare and life sciences. In the aforementioned scenario related to healthcare and life sciences, there have been situations where a lot of sales representatives have issues while trying to set up calls with different physicians. Informatica or any MDM solution usually helps people in the healthcare industry optimize their business processes, especially when setting up calls with different physicians. Typically, Informatica MDM helps to reduce the number of duplicate details related to a physician or the data related to a particular organization data so that the sales representatives don't end up sending duplicate call invites to the same physician, especially those physicians who have probably different versions of their own name.

What is most valuable?

I think the integration feature is probably one of the key features in Informatica MDM. When compared to other Indian products, Informatica MDM has an edge due to its integration capabilities.

What needs improvement?

I don't see any area of improvement required when it comes to Informatica MDM since it is one of the leading products in the market. Some unification in Informatica MDM's UI side would probably make it better. I find Reltio more intuitive when compared to Informatica MDM's UI. Informatica MDM's UI is not intuitive enough. Informatica MDM's UI can be made a bit more intuitive.

I think all the latest up-to-date features are made available in Informatica solution. When it comes to Informatica MDM, all the features are mostly included, because of which there is nothing that needs to be added.

The long response time taken by the technical team of Informatica can be considered for improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with Informatica MDM. I currently work for a company that has an alliance partnership with Informatica. I use Informatica to develop MDM solutions for my company's clients. I work as a solution provider since my company wants its employees to work as middlemen for Informatica products. In my company, we use Informatica to build solutions for clients. I use the latest version of Informatica MDM.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a highly scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

If it is for a single region deployment, the number of users who use the solution can vary somewhere between ten to fifteen, but if it is for a global deployment, then there could be hundreds of users who would use the solution.

The solution is used on a daily basis in my organization.

How are customer service and support?

If there is a super high-priority issue, then the technical team of Informatica is super responsive. However, if it is a low-priority issue, they usually take a little longer than their usual response time. I rate the technical support an eight out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

When it comes to Informatica MDM, it is mostly a cloud or SaaS-based product, because of which the configuration or setup phases may not pose a challenge. Most of the MDM solutions are now SaaS-based products that the product vendor maintains, and so such products are mostly accessed through web URLs over the cloud. Right now, any configuration or setup is not challenging, which used to be the case several years ago when these solutions were deployed on an on-premises model, because of which installation and other such procedures were required. Currently, most products are SaaS-based solutions, so there are no such challenges with respect to setup.

I rate the initial setup phase of Informatica MDM as a nine on a scale of one to ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy.

Predominantly, Informatica MDM gets deployed on a public cloud. There is a provision to go ahead with if any of our company's clients want the product to be deployed on a private cloud, but it comes at a very high cost.

The time taken for the end-to-end deployment process depends on the complexity of the project that you are working on, but if I have to give you a standard answer, it would be approximately six months to start from scratch until production goes live.

Considering the members from the production and UAT departments, the UAT department dealt with the product for three weeks, and the overall deployment process took place over a month to a month and a half. Around eight staff members were required for the deployment process, including an Informatica developer responsible for configurations, a lead developer, two people for integration, a project manager, and one solution architect.

What about the implementation team?

One of the in-house teams in my company carried out the deployment process.

What was our ROI?

I would say that the return on investment from the use of the solution is fairly good.

I rate the product's ROI a nine on a scale of one to ten, where one is zero percent return on investment, and ten is one hundred percent return on investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the product's pricing a nine on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price, and ten is high price. The product does come at a certain cost since it is one of the best products in the market. The payments for the solution are made on a subscription-based model, meaning it is a pay-as-you-go model. In general, the costs attached to the solution depend on its usage.

The costs, in addition to the standard licensing fees for the solution, depend on users' requirements.

What other advice do I have?

The people required for the maintenance of Informatica MDM depend upon the requirements of the clients who use the product.

I would say that a team of five people that includes a solution architect who operates in a partial capacity would be good enough to take care of Informatica MDM's maintenance phase.

I recommend the solution to those who plan to use it.

I rate the overall product a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Provides good scalability, but its technical support services need improvement

  • September 20, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the product to define policies and for data discovery management.

What needs improvement?

It is complicated to establish the lineage in EDC using PowerCenter mappings. We have to do the process manually every time. This particular area needs improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Informatica Axon for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable platform. However, we need to raise the ticket even for the smaller issues. There needs to be proper documentation available. They should provide enough information.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have eight to ten customers for Informatica Axon. It is a scalable product.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support team takes time to complete the debugging process.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process is fine, but there are a lot of infrastructure issues. It includes errors on the node cluster for EDC. Deployment is easy, but debugging is time-consuming. Whenever we raise the ticket to the support team, they take two to three days to evaluate the issue.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing price of the product depends on the organization's requirements. It is less costly than Collibra.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend Informatica Axon to others and rate it a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Good for data governance, data quality and data exploration

  • August 15, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case is for data governance, data quality, data lineages, and data cataloging.

How has it helped my organization?

It is used by an internal team for data discovery. However, we are not able to provide business area-level access to other users because of data security.

What is most valuable?

It's a good product, and the features for data quality, data cataloging, and UI are excellent. It has a lot of advantages.

What needs improvement?

The major points of improvement are stability, integration, and permission to sub-folders or categories of data. If you want to provide access to a particular type of data discovery to a team, it exposes a lot of data points which in turn makes Axon not that useful for them.

Permissions, scalability, and connection with other informatic tools are the main areas that need development. Integration with other tools, such as IDQ, is challenging. The management of data discovery is highly challenging because many data points have identical definitions.

Mostly, this will come under the data security permission level or admin access.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Axon for a year, but I have been using other solutions from Informatica for five years now.

I currently use the latest version of Axon.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability a three or four out of ten. It's not loading at all and it keeps on getting down.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability a six out of ten. There is room for improvement.

We developed something on IDQ on the data quality side. If there is a huge data or a big workload, it takes a lot of time to run and we don't get the result in Axon.

There are around 10 to 15 end users using Axon in our organization.

What about the implementation team?

There is a different team for platform maintenance, management, and deployment. There are around ten people on the team. It's a mix of engineers and developers.

The platform team had some difficulties with admin-level things and keeping Axon up all the time because it's on-premises.

What was our ROI?

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is expensive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Not on the governance, but I have used Databricks, Azure Synapse, Oracle, and other services by Azure.

Databricks is my personal favorite because of the scalability and the runtime it takes to load a large amount of data from a data engineering and data science perspective.

What other advice do I have?

I'll probably look for another solution because it has stability issues. When it's needed, it's usually unavailable.

However, it is a good product the way it's designed. It's a very good product, and it has a lot of features that are required for data governance. It moved all the Excel work to our web page, which can be accessible to everyone. It's a good product, but it needs some improvement.

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Efficient quality checks and data profiling

  • August 14, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

Data Quality involves quality checks and data profiling. It scans through the data, providing metrics like the number of nulls and unique values. Informatica Data Quality profiles the data.

What is most valuable?

In my experience, I've specifically worked with a feature called ARS Doctor, which is part of IDQ (Informatica Data Quality). So, in my earlier project, the core functionality of ARS Doctor revolved around address information sourced from the USPS postal service. It does validate the data. This is crucial because customer addresses often contain diverse writing errors. Given the presence of multiple applications, addresses can be inputted or tagged across various systems or enter their address data differently, yet it needs to conform to a standardized format.

Therefore, each address, even if inputted from distinct systems, undergoes validation to match a single, customizable format. We also have customized settings for these validations.

What needs improvement?

There's certainly room for improvement. One crucial area is generating detailed reports on file statuses. Presently, this is represented visually, often as graphs or charts. Such reporting could offer comprehensive insights into the areas that demand attention and further scrutiny.

For how long have I used the solution?

I possess extensive hands-on experience and expertise in Informatica.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I do find Informatica Data Quality is stable. It generally maintains a high level of reliability and stability, making it an asset compliance in various scenarios.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In terms of scalability, you see, it is on the cloud environment, which itself gives the scalable, and flexibility in terms of accommodation of the data. So if we want to scan across the data for the quality and checks, like, not on any sample data. We really want to do this profiling on the checks on a lot of data. So it is very much visible in the cloud environment, which is cloud storage, which is provided by AWS or Azure, or GCP.

How are customer service and support?

Based on my experience and involvement in reported discussions throughout my career, I would definitely give their customer service a high rating. We receive excellent support from Informatica's team, especially during activities like upgrades and other related tasks.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

When it comes to the initial setup, particularly in a cloud environment, it's primarily license-based. There are various features available, each catering to different needs. The platform can establish connections with various systems based on the connectors it offers. These connectors facilitate integration with different environments.

When it comes to data quality, it is a license-based model. So, if you procure the necessary licenses, you gain access to the relevant options. It's all about tailoring the solution to the specific requirements of the project.

If the goal is to perform quality checks separately, there's the option to employ dedicated products for that purpose. Alternatively, data quality checks can be integrated into the data integration process. Naturally, data integration involves elements of reconciliation, verification, and quality assessment. The chosen approach hinges on factors such as data volume and the complexity of requirements. If these factors increase, the option to select different products designed for specific tasks becomes viable and can be explored further.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution a seven out of ten.

The solution gives us the visual features on how the quality is because back in few years or back some time ago. So it was, like, always a kind of hidden thing because, as a part of the data governance, we do have a lot of data dumped in the data warehouse. But relaying we have been just relying on the data warehouse. So we didn't know, like, it is really giving us the powerful insight, or it is really giving our quality data because it could be junk or anything. So, in that case, at least this solution definitely gives us the strength with the visualization part, which gives us, "Okay, these are the different types of data it exists and data. These are the different qualities where it can improve the quality."

Needs to improve technical support and not suited for small companies due to price and integration

  • August 09, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What needs improvement?

I would like to have the solution in one product and technical support needs to be better.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How was the initial setup?

Informatica Axon is easy to deploy and takes six months to install. We would need five people for the solution's deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Informatica Axon is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I wouldn't recommend the tool to small companies due to price and integration. I would rate the tool a seven out of ten.
