Years of Reliability!

  • July 10, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Any time you have an issues Support is great at helping you get the issues resolved in a timely manner. I have never not been able to restore a file. I have used my different backup vendors over the years and Commvault would always be my choice moving forward.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't really say there is anything I dislike. All backup software have their hitches, but Commvault has the least.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Metalic cloud is one of the most cost effective solutions I have used. Backing up to AWS was 3x the cost.

Good for busy admins and companies with common IT solutions setup

  • July 10, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's very handy and easy to set up. Software/Solution is stable and does its job well. We have replaced previous backup solution with Metallic and we are very pleased about it.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is not Commvault; not everything is supported by now (but most of the most common setups is). In general, it's easy to use, but in some cases, Commvault (base product) knowledge is helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeps most of the backup infra out of our sight, which allows us to avoid management, patching etc. It supports a lot of SaaS solutions and native cloud ones, what's very handy in modern environments.

It can be counted on, unlike many other systems I've used.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's a bit clunky sometimes and the education material should be updated but still a great product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Reliable backup of petabytes of data and trustworthy process designs from support.

Dependable and keeps up with the technology very well

  • July 10, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The quickness of support responses and resolution. Tickets are only closed once they are solved or agreed upon.
In addition, they do get back to you when they say they will.
They don't hesitate to remote into your compter
What do you dislike about the product?
CommVault doesnt seem to keep up with NetApp technology.
Our ticket is as below:
As of Dec 2022, we upgraded the NetApp OnTap from 9.7P6 to the current version OnTap 9.10.1P8
According to NetApp SnapDiff v1 and v2 are deprecated and will not function in ONTAP 9.10.1 and later. Only SnapDiff v3 is supported in ONTAP 9.10.1 and later.
My manager needs to find out when CommVault will support SnapDiff v3?
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being an all in one solution that works within our enviroment. It allows quick backup and restore and is very flexible for our needs at this time. It works with our tape backup system very well

A stable tool with a good support team making it simple to do a SaaS backup

  • July 04, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What needs improvement?

My customers are not satisfied with the tool because there is a little trouble with the throughput of Metallic. If you go very large, you run into some problems, especially when moving things into the cloud and out of the cloud. This is not a problem of Metallic but a cloud provider problem. However, that's a normal thing we have with the cloud providers.

I wouldn't want any more features since, at the moment, it's very simple to do a SaaS backup and so on while doing more complex things since it is on-premises.

For how long have I used the solution?

I am a reseller of backup products, not only Metallic but also for Veritas, CommVault, and so on. I am trying to resell the solutions. I like to resell it in combination with our hardware. I am not interested in selling the solution for the cloud because that's not with our hardware. I am a partner of CommVault, so I resell Metallic. My company also has a partnership with Veritas and Veeam.

I have been dealing with Metallic for my customers.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product's stability is good enough. But, you have to compare it with other products. For example, I am using Veritas, and I am using it for CommVault, perhaps at home for myself. For the rest, I am selling. I am not doing the implementation. I'm only selling it.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is fine if you speak English. So, it is good enough if you speak English. If you prefer your native language, then it becomes a little bit more difficult.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Speaking of Metallic's competitors, they have an advantage in terms of pricing and buying deals or doing some more things in a smarter way. For example, Veritas provides better tools than Metallic.

What other advice do I have?

You need something in the cloud to do the backup. For example, I use CommVault on my laptop from work, and we use Commvault in the cloud, which is very easy and very good to use. Not Metallic, but with only Commvault, we are backing up to the cloud and our desktop. So, we can use it everywhere. If you have some problem, then you can restore it at home, which is very nice. It works very fine.

My suggestion to others is to size it correctly. I do recommend the products.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Provides efficient availability of servers and administers multiple solutions

  • June 27, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Commvault HyperScale X for effective backup, recovery, and archiving of hardware and software solutions.

What is most valuable?

The product has the best features for scaling up and administering all the solutions from a single platform. They provide a duplication database as well.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement in the data center application running on the cloud for the platform.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is good. However, the support company is quite expensive.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

We provide a complete installation for the product. It has medium complexity. One can set it up by reading the documentation. But in many cases, one needs technical support from the vendor or partner.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In our country, hardware solutions are very expensive. But the product is very competitive for pricing in some countries because it is possible to set up Commvault hardware with other vendors like HP, Lenovo, or SuperMicro using its certification.

What other advice do I have?

The product provides the availability of servers. If one server is down, the other two work in that space. You get all solutions in one product and don't have to worry about the type of server, storage, or switch network you need to buy to set up the backup software.

I rate Commvault HyperScale X a nine out of ten.

    Computer & Network Security

Very convenient.

What do you like best about the product?
So easy to use and very very user friendly platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can not think of anything that is really bad.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main thing i do not have to do is to sit and do backup manually.

Has good scalability and helps us back up virtual environments effectively

  • May 11, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for mail archiving and sync application features. We can back up the virtual environment with its help.

What needs improvement?

They should provide more integration with OpenShift for the solution. Also, its support could be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using the solution for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the solution's stability as an eight.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have four solution users in our organization. I rate its scalability a nine.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support team resolves the queries efficiently. However, it takes time to respond.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used IBM Spectrum Protect before. I have attended training sessions and implemented them as well.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup process is complicated. One needs to know the product in-depth for easy deployment. It takes a couple of hours but depends on the type of environment. Also, one executive with good knowledge can conduct its maintenance process efficiently.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's cost is reasonable. I rate its pricing a nine.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend the solution to others and rate it as an eight.

A highly scalable solution that provides multiple capabilities under one common interface

  • May 08, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

It is a good solution in the enterprise market and serves as an enterprise solution. It is a leading solution. So, you have different kinds of workloads. My customers have a type of workload that the solution supports. Either you can have the solution on the cloud or on the on-premises version. Also, there are different kinds of workloads, like Oracle, SQL, MySQL, or MongoDB. Normally, you will not find all kinds of workloads in one product.

What is most valuable?

Auxiliary (aux) copy and DASH copy are the most valuable features of the solution.

What needs improvement?

In GUI, some of the features have been divided. So one is the browser-based command center, and then the old interface with CommCell browser. They have to add more features and functions that are the same as whatever is there in the command center. We prefer that because, otherwise, we have to do two different interfaces for different kinds of jobs. We cannot do some jobs in the old interface with CommCell browser since we have to go into the command center.

Whatever Commvault Complete Data Protection has, they need to improve. Sometimes, we have a performance issue with the backup speed. So, that has to be rectified and improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with Commvault Complete Data Protection for more than fifteen years. Also, I have used the solution within the last twelve months. Regularly, our company has been supporting our customers with the setup process. Lately, we have been involved in the implementation of HyperScale from Commvault. So we support our customers regularly. I think maybe a month or a month and a half ago, we implemented Commvault's HyperScale solution. We are using Commvault Version 11.28.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is good sometimes in some environments. But sometimes, in some environments, it has to be improved. On the network backup, it has to be improved. If, almost across the networks, one has different VLAN backups, the performance backup is sometimes degraded due to the network configuration and because of the load on the network. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a six out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. Currently, one of my customers has an almost one-petabyte backup solution. So, it was increased from gigabytes to petabytes. It can be increased if you have a big setup in place. With HyperScale Appliance, it is easy to expand the server. It will just expand your capability and the storage capacity, and a few other capacities in the solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten. I have around fifteen big customers. There are a lot of customers of the solution who use it, with other vendors supporting it. The solution has quite a big market for the solution.

How are customer service and support?

If the support we receive is from India, then sometimes we have a problem since it takes time owing to the fact that initially, a few people handle the issue before forwarding it to the next level. Maybe some years back, the support was from Australia, the UK, Canada, or the USA, and sometimes from Germany or some European nation, which was very good since there were very qualified people in their team who could resolve our issues within an hour. After they shifted some backup support to India, they included people who operate at a basic or initial level. So, they start troubleshooting, but we think that it's just killing time so that they can get some other people to intervene. I rate the technical support a seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We provide solutions depending on a customer's requirements and setup. We also provide solutions like Rubrik and Veeam. I did not work with Veeam, but Veeam is mainly for on-premises virtualization. Its workload is very limited. Also, the expandability and scalability have limitations. However, if you have VMware Hypervisor on your premises, then the solution is okay.

How was the initial setup?

If one has some kind of initial knowledge of any kind of backup solution like Veritas NetBackup, then it will be a little bit easy to implement the solution and then understand the architecture. But if you don't have the knowledge of any other solutions, then it would prove to be a learning curve of tasks related to implementation and administration or designing.

On a scale of one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy, I rate the initial setup a five.

Depending upon the solution, sometimes the deployment can be done within one day or within half a day, especially if you have a small setup. But if you have a big and complicated setup, it will take days to implement. It also depends on how complicated the infrastructure the customers have in their environments.

We have to definitely follow steps before we implement the solution. Before we implement any other agents or media agents, we have to implement ComCell, the main backup server, then the media agent, and then the client. This sequence has to be thorough. For updating any page or anything like that, we have to follow the same sequence, which includes the backup server, the media agent, and the client.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is quite expensive, though I don't exactly know the prices. It is expensive compared to other products because it's for an enterprise setup and not for a small setup. On a scale of one to ten, where ten is the highest price, I rate the pricing an eight.

What other advice do I have?

This software features a single interface that covers all essential functions, including core data management, backup, restore, copy, and DR. It eliminates the need to access the client side and simplifies the configuration process. The centralized configuration makes installation easy. Additionally, the software supports a wide range of platforms, including Linux, Oracle, SAP, and Microsoft versions, unlike some older products, such as Veritas NetBackup, which doesn't have the latest version support in their solution. Sometimes, even Microsoft products don't have the latest version support.

I like the product because of its simplicity and the fact that it provides one single interface for managing everything, including storage, data, and policies. Additionally, there is no need for any configuration on the client's end. Even with 500 clients, you don't have to individually configure the solution for each one. Instead, you just need to install a push agent, which is a small agent, and all tasks can be performed from a single interface. Moreover, the product offers comprehensive support for different software versions. Whether it's upgrading from Exchange Server 2016 or Exchange Server 2013 to Exchange Server 2019 or Exchange Server 2020, or using Oracle version, or other releases, they have immediate backup solutions available, ensuring compatibility during upgrades.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
