Very useful tool

  • September 04, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Float has been very useful in our project management and time allocation. We use it to delegate tasks and projects. It is a great visual representation for scheduling. We also find the time off and milestone features very useful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Float can be tricky to use at times and there aren't many resources like guides or videos to reference. Other minor things like the split tool gets stuck sometimes and there isn't a way to unsplit tasks. Sometimes when trying to assign time off the website won't let you do it until you refresh. The differences between admin, project manager, owner are not very clear.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The visual aspect allows us to ensure we are meeting deadlines, making sure we don't overschedule team members. It has been very beneficial in terms of time management and making sure tasks are completed in a timely manner.

I love that my schedule is color coded so I can quickly see an overview of my week at a glance.

There's nothing I dislike about it. It's the easiest scheduling software I've used out of all of my jobs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having my managers book out my time in a clearly laid out manner makes it easier for me to focus on my work and not have to worry about which project is more important, or try to prioritize my work myself, or spend time tracking down managers etc. It streamlines my work flow.

What do you dislike about the product?
Not much - wish it had a time tracking system so it could replace another tool

Works great for most of what we do - wish they would add some functionality

  • September 04, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love that it integrates with your project budget. It shows you how much you're over or under your projected target given how many hours you put into float. It's clean and looks great and is fairly easy to read (unless you zoom out and you project title gets truncated). It's easy to add and modify tasks and setup is fairy self-explanatory minus a few quirks.
What do you dislike about the product?
I hate that you can't lock items into place and that when you move items around they don't automatically push out the schedule. I get that the method used here works for a lot of situations, but it'd be nice to add in some functionality. Right now, youre budget isn't the constraint. You can move hours around willy nilly and that number fluctuates. I'd like to see an option where you set your budgeted hours and the program rigidly holds to that, pushing the schedule out as needed to accommodate. And I like that you can see your budgeted hours as a percentage but the functionality is super light with regards to accuracy. We update our Float schedule every week and it's a pain to get accurate numbers given the "hours per day" model. If you end up spending 11.5 hours in a week on one project or task, you have to put them all in a single day to be accurate.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The biggest asset we've realized using Float is when our projects are over or under staffed (based on a contract # of hours model). If you accurately put in the number of hours you have, and then estimate how many hours per week your staff will spend through the end of the project, it spits out a percentage over or under your budget which is super helpful.
