Multi disciplinary studio management top line

  • January 22, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The simple usability of the software. How quick it is to add jobs, extend and move jobs around to different people. Flexible scrolling through the weeks. So easy to set someone up and get started with very minimal training. Report system very useful for monthly reports. For top line project management this is the perfect tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
The search bar sometimes doesnt work or show particular jobs on occasion. Search seems to only work within the month you are viewing, rather then showing a job from a previous month. This is intermittent and sometimes works to find what you are looking for when refreshed. Still need to test this after the software update to see if it has been resolved.

Doesn't refresh for designers, so we have updated and moved jobs around and they aren't aware as their float has remained the same, unless they manually refresh the window.

Would be great to see more in depth project management potential, such as uploading briefs, designs and signing them off all on this software.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Currently managing a team of 9 designers in a multi disciplinary team with 30+ different jobs daily. Tool has worked perfectly well for top line management of workflow and constant changing priorities. Visually easy to understand. Since the recent update the software has performed so much better then expected and has made a massive difference to usability. Reporting monthly on resource was never in place before this tool so this allows us to be transparent.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For very easy to use workflow management that everyone can get on board with and understand (especially coming from paper based or Excel system before) this is a great first step into digital project management for design. You can straight away see resource, book out weeks in advance and set deadlines. Plus the designers can mark on their jobs whether it was completed so PM's know straight away.

Veratile and easy to use project/people management tool

  • January 22, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Float is intuitive to use. I really like the layout, clear and with lots of colour options for different staff and projects. Staff (and admin access levels) can be added, revised and removed easily.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unfortunately, you don't seem to be able to move a batch of tasks similaneously. so if project is delayed, every task for every project member has to be moved individually (which can run into 100's).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Multi-year, multi-project management visualisation and planning. do i have enough staff in place, with the right skills, are there any pinch-points likely to cause delays (I was looking up to 4 years ahead)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use the free trial period, test you requirements, sometimes you aren't sure what you need until you can do it.

Great Everyday Scheduling App

  • January 22, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Float is very clearly laid out with plenty of white space that allows the user easily read their upcoming tasks or review past tasks. The option to change colour, client and project name per activity makes it especially easy to follow and plan within the app. I have never had any glitches with the app and it's always very quick to load.
What do you dislike about the product?
When switching the calendar views from months to weeks or days I wish the text for each activity automatically increased in size as it is quite small to read. This is a small drawback in the whole scheme of things however.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Never missing a task and holds me accountable for getting work done!

Simple to use + Great Value

  • January 22, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The calendar layout and color coordination options make scheduling quick, easy, and intuitive!
What do you dislike about the product?
I do wish the calendar blocks could be visually shortened past the 2hr length as in a previous version of Float. I get annoyed when a 15-minute block looks the same as a 2hr block.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Float makes it easy to have a highly flexible schedule, that is readable with a quick glance.

Great Concept, but Inverse Effects

  • January 21, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to use, share and visualise timings/deadlines/etc.
It helps get everyone on the same page in terms of project activity, and is especially good at helping individuals manage their deadlines and daily tasks. Especially individuals that seem to struggle in this area.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest feature that's missing from this service is a method to measure Float predictions against actually output. And get suggestions to optimise! As in, how much time did we actually spend on that project? Was it 10 when we estimated 4? Or 2 when we estimated 8? We could get better at making Float work for us rather than making us work for Float if this were an option.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has had some inverse effects on our team and team dynamics. Our team now works to make our work match Float, not to make Float match our needs. This is probably a management on our issue, but the nature of the platform to make shapes fit perfectly means we neglect key human features that would be nice to have the system flag:

i.e. Do we now have six people working on the same project in order to meet a deadline? This isn't really efficient to have multiple people on the same project at once. In reality, we loose time. And neglects the expertise of any one individual and the time they've invested in that project in the upfront.

Clear, functional and easy to use

  • January 21, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I am mostly using Float within the company I work for to get an overview of what projects I'm working on during a particular week. The clear and functional display makes it easy to immediately see what has been scheduled. It also lets me see who of my colleagues are on holiday or what projects they're working on. Great product.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can begin to get a little bit laggy when there are many other members of staff on display at the same time. Other than that, no complaints!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Task management, work scheduling
