Cloud optimization has transformed our cost control and now drives efficient FinOps decisions

  • December 08, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

I have been using Spot for five years. My main use case for Spot is cloud optimization.

We use Spot for optimization by leveraging real-time optimization as well as auto-optimization. The company allows organizations to achieve substantial savings on their cloud spend and helps realize a reduction in costs by 50 to 70 percent. It improves resource utilization and reliability, enhances agility by enabling teams to adapt seamlessly to changing demands, and supports FinOps practices for better financial governance. It integrates with major cloud providers such as AWS and is available in the marketplace, allowing customers to benefit from decreased spend while sellers mutually benefit due to their compensation, which enables us to account plan and achieve the best outcome for the customer.

Overall, the main takeaway is that Spot helps the organization maximize efficiency while reducing costs across cloud environments.

What is most valuable?

The best features that Spot offers include automated cost optimization, advanced container and Kubernetes management, and extensions to security as well as compliance, AI-driven insights, and multi-cloud integration, enabling organizations to work across different cloud environments and benefit any customer.

Spot's automated cost optimization works by continuously analyzing the workload and applying policies to minimize cloud spend without sacrificing performance. Spot automatically chooses the most cost-effective mix of pricing models such as spot instances, reserved instances, savings plans, and on-demand based on real-time demand and availability.

Spot has positively impacted our organization by automating cloud resource management, which has significantly cut costs and improved efficiency. We have seen up to 70 percent savings, as well as better scalability, reliability, and tighter integration with AWS. This integration has opened several doors to the partner ecosystem, different marketplaces, and has allowed us to leverage programs while tapping into the Amazon network and ecosystem more effectively.

What needs improvement?

Spot can be improved by adding deeper multi-cloud integrations, enhancing real-time security automation, and continuously making advancements based on customer feedback.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for a little over five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Spot is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Spot's scalability is strong.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support is strong. I would rate the customer support a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different solution.

How was the initial setup?

We purchased Spot through the AWS Marketplace.

What about the implementation team?

The pricing, setup cost, and licensing are handled by another team.

What was our ROI?

The 70 percent savings were measured through our cost optimization. Our technology predicts demand, selects the cheapest instance mix, sizes the workloads appropriately, and scales it automatically based on policy, resulting in significant savings by reducing manual work and enhancing our flexibility, which has helped accelerate our deployments.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Our company purchased Spot through AWS Marketplace.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not evaluate other options before choosing Spot.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others considering using Spot is to understand the benefits and identify relevant use cases. If they are involved in CloudOps or FinOps, I highly suggest they look into Spot due to the cost savings we have experienced, the reduction of manual effort, and the overall visibility into their environment that allows for intelligent decision-making on their roadmap moving forward. My company has a business relationship with this vendor as both a customer and partner. I would rate this product a ten out of ten overall.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Making AWS EC2 Spot Instances a Breeze

  • April 19, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Algorithmic choosing of spot instance types by price using scores.
What do you dislike about the product?
Would be nice to have a single node group that can do x86 and arm64 without changing AMI
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
AutoScaling EC2s based on application demands. Makes management and scaling easy to use and saves a lot of money that is measurable and predictable

Easy implementation and great savings

  • March 03, 2022

What do you like best about the product?
Spot Ocean's big difference for us was the excellent integration with the provisioning tool we used: kops. This made it very easy to configure a new node groups on existing clusters using Spot Ocean. It also made it easier to maintain our infrastructure as code.
What do you dislike about the product?
Even though we integrate kops, sometimes it doesn't work well in new kops versions. This is expected because the integration development is slower than the development of kops.

For us, this is not a critical issue as we are already used to installing earlier versions of kops compared to the final release.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The cost reduction and operational excellence, as this spot instances management is done transparently and efficiently by Spot Ocean.

In the first few months after implementation, we got a cost reduction of over 60% with AWS EC2.

What do you like best about the product?
Reducing compute costs by 80%+ is the most obvious thing to like about Spot Ocean. However in addition to that they are a great partner, provide excellent service, domain expertise on compute environments, and are generally excellent to work with.
What do you dislike about the product?
On Spot Ocean literally nothing. I would like to see better reporting on their Eco side, and I'm excited to see what they do with their Cloud Checkr acquisition and how well that fits into the broader console, but I honestly have not once considered moving away from Spot Ocean in the past 5 years of usage.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our primary use case is running 100% of our container compute on AWS spot instances. We are saving over $10M a year from this alone, with zero performance degradation, resiliency degradation, etc.

What do you like best about the product?
Ocean took the spot instances management out of the picture and allow engineers to adopt EKS running spot instances
What do you dislike about the product?
should include instance family in spot instances selection instead of specify each instance type
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Cost optimization. Ocean was able to reduce our EC2 compute cost
