Sophos UTM to XGS: A worth migration
What do you like best about the product?
We have been Sophos users since 2009, when the company was still Astaro. Their firewalls are so reliable that we have not gone anywhere since. Over the years, Sophos has introduced new hardware and improved interfaces, and we have made the necessary upgrades accordingly.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't think of anything. Some people complain about Sophos' prices, but when you have to protect your business, you cannot go cheap.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sophos provides harden appliances that filter all Internet traffic and provides security and protection to our networks.

Traffic and web filtering, reliable hardware, load balancing, Zero-day, VPN
A spectacular Firewall and core of your network experience
What do you like best about the product?
Sophos XGS Firewalls provide a robust, reliable, and resolute method for securing a network while providing several major features all in one piece of stellar hardware. With the hardware upgrades to the XGS line, and the subsequent regular software improvements that get released, you have a device that does the work of what used to be 4 or 5 individual pieces of enterprise network hardware.
Specifically, I was able to consolidate my ISP load balancing, site-to-site VPN tunnel, packet shaping, and client VPN devices all down into a singular powerful device at the front. This saves time, consolidates knowledge, and provides cost savings to any institution who wishes to adopt it as their primary firewall device.
That, coupled with a consolidated support structure through Sophos all contributes to my favorite components of the device.

What do you dislike about the product?
Traffic Logging needs a bit of additional improvement, but with subsequent software releases it has gotten better over time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Packet shaping, QOS, load balancing, secure VPN communications
A next-gen firewall that delivers on visibility, ease of use, and seamless integration
What do you like best about the product?
What stands out the most is the incredibly smooth deployment process. The One Touch setup made it easy to bring our firewalls online. Even at remote sites, without the usual headaches. The central management console is also a highlight: it’s clean, intuitive, and allows us to manage multiple devices and policies without getting lost in complexity.
Another strength is the granularity of network protection policies. We can create highly specific rules based on users, applications, traffic types, or even behavioral patterns. This level of detail lets us tailor security precisely to our business needs, while keeping full visibility on network activity at all times.

What do you dislike about the product?
There’s very little to criticize. Occasionally, loading detailed views in the dashboard can take a few extra seconds when handling a high volume of data, but this is rare and doesn’t impact overall usability or performance.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The combination of XGS firewalls with the Sophos endpoint agent provides a synchronized security approach that we truly value. If a workstation shows suspicious behavior, the firewall can automatically isolate it from the network in real-time, greatly reducing threat exposure. This lateral movement control is one of the features that convinced us to go with Sophos.

Sophos Firewall
What do you like best about the product?
Sophos Firewall syncs great with the endpoints and logging real-time traffic is great. Sophos in general offers so much from being able to see all devices and alerts from the firewall in one location in Sophos Central. The best part of Sophos is the MDR side of it knowing I can go home at night, and my environment is still being watched.
What do you dislike about the product?
When trying to be more granular on configurations of rules it can get a little complex and confusing for someone who is less experienced. That can be said for web filtering as well. But all in all, it's a good product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The security within our environment from creating tunnels to running separate areas off of Sophos DHCP it's drastically helped us improve overall security.

Versatile Network Security For Small IT Team
What do you like best about the product?
Central Management through Sophos Central is crucial for us, having a few remote locations to manage. Also the ability to have everything managed in one plane, including network security, end-point security and MDM is great. The XGS platform is very versatile and simple enough to setup and manage for a small IT team. Given the nature of our operations, the ability to enforce safe search at the gateway level is a must and managing web content and applications policies is a lot easier than the previous product we had.
What do you dislike about the product?
-Sometimes it is a bit challenging to troubleshoot issues using the log viewer.
-IP addresses are not sorted in true incremental order in some areas of the management GUI. (x.x.x.1, x.x.x.100, x.x.x.2, instead of x.x.x.1, x.x.x.2, x.x.x.100)
-Certain Access Points can only be managed through Sophos Central.
-1st Gen XGS Wi-Fi models do not support concurrent dual-band Wi-Fi.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As a non-profit organization with limited IT management resources, we need a cost-effective solution to maintain network, servers and endpoint security and meet PCI-DSS compliance demands. The Sophos XGS network appliances allow us to do that by offering a fairly simple configuration interface and a central management platform with Sophos Central.
