Easy to do backup, easy to deploy and scalable
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
We wish to increase the automation to improve the data management tasks with Rubrik. We see the possibility to improve with AI and other types of technologies to be more flexible and productive in operations.
What is most valuable?
The flexibility and ease of use to do the backup. They don't use classic backup modes.
What needs improvement?
There is room for improvement in stability.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability a seven out of ten. There is always room for improvement.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We work with big customers. My company works with any type of customer, but I work with various customers. It's just banks and insurance companies. So, this solution has to have scalability and resiliency.
We have three to four customers.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have experience with different solutions like Oracle, Veeam, andCommvault Cloud.
Right now, we are testing a solution for Kubernetes. We are trying to replace it, so we just don't know yet. I don't really know if Rubrik is a good solution for this. We are testing Velero (Open Source) or Kasten K10, and I don't know Rubrik's view for this type of technology.
How was the initial setup?
It is easy to deploy. We have the infrastructure in the cloud and a data center on the premises. In all locations, we take a hybrid approach.
What was our ROI?
The return on investment depends. In our operations, we can see a 30% to 40% improvement. In the first two to three years, it's remarkable. However, monitoring at the case level can be challenging. In my experience, the combination of these benefits is really impactful.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
In many cases, the customers I speak with want to have a one or three-year license. Because it's for backup, they need the ability to increase or replace the solution as they need. They want to have a monthly price to go with the use of the solution.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten. I recommend using it to other users.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Automates the backup and recovery process, reducing manual human errors and global search allows for granular recoveries
What is our primary use case?
We've got three main use cases. The most common one now is ransomware protection, specifically one-touch recovery. If a customer is affected by ransomware, they can easily recover just the affected files with Rubrik, without having to do a full data backup recovery.
Rubrik has built-in intelligence to know what's been affected, allowing for quick recovery and minimal downtime.
The second use case is for cloud migrations. You can back up your data on-prem and then restore it to another location, streamlining your migrations. It is a clever way of using backups.
How has it helped my organization?
There's no need for human intervention to kick off the automation if you create workflows in Rubrik that can be followed in the event of a backup or compromise. For example, you can define backup policies and retention policies.
You can automate tiering. If something is older than, like, 90 days on the backup, it can automatically move to cheaper disk. That's another key feature of the automation process. Rubrik does a lot of incremental backups, eliminating the need for those manual large backups all the time.
The main reason our customers are buying Rubrik is the automated intelligent data management. It analyzes storage usage and automatically optimizes compression, data location, and deduplication. This part of the automation process is very valuable because it eliminates the need for a human to manually optimize storage.
What is most valuable?
The automation of policies is powerful. It automates the backup and recovery process, reducing manual human errors.
Also, it's a single platform for managing backup, replication, and recovery, eliminating the need for different products. The one-touch recovery reduces downtime and accelerates business continuity.
Additionally, people really like the global search, which allows for granular recoveries. Regarding security, Rubrik is immutable by default. Many other backup technologies rely on the storage they live on to be immutable, which can be a problem if someone gains access and turns it off. Rubrik's immutability is by default.
What needs improvement?
There is room for improvement in the cost. Make it cheaper. Everyone knows what you're getting with Rubrik. It's expensive for a reason, but it is one of the better ones.
Sometimes, when we talk to customers, we explain the amazing features, cost savings, and efficiencies. But when we give them the price, the people in procurement who don't understand the technology just look at the price and want it lower.
I try to explain that it's saving them money and paying for itself. If something happens and the company can't work for a week, they'll lose millions. Then, they're complaining about a few hundred thousand pounds. This avoids brand reputation damage too. If you get caught in the news saying you've had ransomware, it could affect your company.
In future releases, Rubril could open up more SaaS protection for products like Salesforce or ServiceNow. I know Rubrik is doing something with SAP, but there's competition in that space.
For how long have I used the solution?
I started in 2014, so it's been almost ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability a ten out of ten. It is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's very scalable, which was the reason it was invented because traditional backup wasn't scalable.
I would rate the scalability a ten out of ten.
We work with companies of all sizes, from 750 end users to 10,000 users.
We've been working with Rubrik for many years. For now, we have between 20 and 50 customers.
How are customer service and support?
The times I've worked with them, the customer service and support were just a little bit slow, but they're still very clever.
So, the customer service and support could be a bit faster.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Commvault, Veritas, and Zerto are the main ones. As a reseller, we work with a lot of competitive products, including Veeam and Rubrik. Lately, there have been opportunities for both.
However, customers are often already using one or the other, so it is difficult to switch them to Veritas.
The competitive edge lies in terms of the automation. Traditional backup solutions, like Veritas, involve a lot of manual processes. Rubrik's automation overcomes many of the manual issues and testing challenges.
Security and compliance is another area. Rubrik's reporting and analytics help overcome challenges related to backup reporting, especially for compliance with regulations like GDPR.
Rapid recovery is a big challenge. Rubrik's One-Touch Recovery helps address this. Using backup as a migration tool can also help overcome challenges when moving to a hybrid cloud.
Finally, storage management. Customers buy a lot of storage, and it's hard to manage efficiently. Rubrik's intelligent data management platform can help overcome this challenge.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment is actually very straightforward, probably one of the easiest data protection platforms to roll out. They've really reinvented the way backup is done. The founders came out of Google, the guys who made Rubrik.
Deployment model:
It's primarily on-prem, but recently, people have been interested in the cloud protection module.
Deployment time:
Rubrik is easy to deploy, you should be up and running within a few weeks after testing. So, it can start from a few days to a couple of weeks.
For a small company, the deployment could be just a few days. For a bigger customer, it could be a couple of weeks, depending on their requirements. But you can be up and running quickly, then it's just a matter of configuring it to their specific needs.
What about the implementation team?
We work in the resell division, so get measured on selling licenses, but the rest of Accenture is measured on professional services. They would handle the implementation, support, troubleshooting, and upgrading.
Accenture has 750,000 people divided into client teams. Each client has a group of sales or technical teams, and the technical teams are divided into security, infrastructure, compliance, and risk. It's difficult to say how many are in the technical teams, but each client has one, and we have 250 key clients around the world. So, tens of thousands of people.
What was our ROI?
The main benefit is cost savings. Rubrik is expensive, but due to its data management capabilities, customers can save a lot by reducing hardware and storage. The automation features also reduce manual labor from the operations team.
One-touch recovery reduces lost revenue by recovering quicker. Automation improves staff productivity and reduces costly human error. So, overall, there's reduced risk, no business disruption, and a faster time to value because it's easy to implement, and much of it is automated.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is a more expensive solution, but people need to know what they're paying for. On a scale of one to ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is very cheap, I would rate it a four.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate the product I a ten out of ten. I love the product!
Offers an initial setup phase which is very admin-friendly
What is our primary use case?
I use the solution in my company, and we use it to protect our on-prem managed servers from Oracle. My company is trying to back up VMware and VMs, which is the reason why we use Rubrik.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable area I noticed in Rubrik is in the area with the configuring of SQL backup. When we are adding SQL host to Rubrik, it is easy and reliable to configure SQL backups on Rubrik as well as to deal with VMware vCenter. The only thing I noticed in Rubrik is that configuring Oracle Database backup is difficult. When Oracle Database backup is hosted on Windows, configuring Windows on Rubrik is kind of a difficult or tough task.
What needs improvement?
When it comes to Oracle Database or Linux-based machines, it is easy to configure Oracle Database when we are using Linux. With Windows, it is difficult to configure Oracle Database. If the ease of configuration of Oracle Database while using Linux can be made possible with Windows, it will be a great help to the administrators.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have experience with Rubrik.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
From what I heard, most of my company's customers are migrating from different backup tools to Rubrik. My organization deals with around ten clients who use the product.
How are customer service and support?
The solution's technical support is really great and good support.
How was the initial setup?
The product's initial setup phase is very admin-friendly.
The setup phase and upgrades issues and configuring Rubrik Edge using vCenter, VMware, or hypervisor. My company has good documentation from Rubrik. By going through the documentation, my company easily sets up a Rubrik-based environment. My company was involved in the deployment process of several Rubrik Edge servers for our customers. I have deployed Rubrik Edge servers using VMware and hypervisors. I have set up new physical Rubrik appliances, after which our company migrated the complete Rubrik to a different site, and we deployed it there.
The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.
I integrated Azure Cloud with Rubrik for archival purposes. When we face a disaster, by using the cloud, we can simply connect as a reader on the different Rubrik brik, and we can make it a plug-and-play kind of stuff, which is a great feature introduced by Rubrik.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend the product to others.
Whenever I work with different customers who use different backup products, I suggest to them how they need to consider migrating to Rubrik. I recommend Rubrik to my company's customers who use legacy backup tools. The product is stable and reliable.
Speaking about the benefits offered by the product, I can say that my company's Rubrik license expired in May 2023. Rubrik's team gave my company a buffer time of two months to upgrade and renew our licenses, and such support was one of the great things I noticed about Rubrik.
I rate the tool a ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Provides a single plane of glass interface and protects data against ransomware
What is our primary use case?
The main purpose of utilizing the product is to maintain immutable backups, protecting our primary data from ransomware attacks. Additionally, it facilitates meeting our restore point objectives (RPO) and restore time objectives (RTO) by centralizing all restore activities through a single tool. This unified approach eliminates the need for disparate backups stored in various locations for different products.
What is most valuable?
Two of the product's most valuable features are its single-pane-of-glass interface for managing all backup and restore operations. It effectively enables us to meet our RPO and RTO objectives. Additionally, Rubrik's immutable backups ensure the safety of our data from corruption caused by ransomware attacks.
What needs improvement?
Initially, we encountered compatibility challenges with some of our technologies, such as the inability to directly back up Snowflake databases. Additionally, they could improve the pricing.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Rubrik for approximately a year.
How are customer service and support?
My experience with customer service and support was very good. They were available to help with both deployment and training.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
Due to Rubrik's flexible deployment options, the initial setup was straightforward. It offers several deployment choices, including deploying it as a service or utilizing a dedicated appliance locally. Additionally, customizable deployment methods are available.
What about the implementation team?
The technical team provided considerable support during implementation, greatly facilitating the process. We required approximately three competent individuals to manage both the deployment and maintenance.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
While backup solutions tend to be expensive, Rubrik's pricing is even more expensive. However, there is room for improvement in pricing to make it more competitive.
The initial setup cost includes support and maintenance costs, followed by a monthly fee.
What other advice do I have?
The product's protection against ransomware is a significant benefit.
I rate it an eight out of ten.
Peace of mind
Other than that the on-premise features allows easy recovery using live mount directly from Rubrik Storage.
Rubrik is a great partner to help with your Cybersecurity resilience planning.

Features like instant recovery let us recover faulty assets in about 2 minutes and storage vMotion can be done afterwards, from Rubrik or vCenter UI. Single file recovery is really helpful, the UI helps browsing and downloading needed files really fast. RBAC makes it possible to give restore permissions to key users and showing them how to use the UI doenst't take much time and is really intuitive. Rubrik offers many security features, like MFA, 2-person rule, isolated backup data and much more. And last but not least, it is API driven and enables us to automate many tasks. Even things like automatically restoring to isolated recovery sites can be done to check backup integrity. And I like the possiblity to setup an orchestrated recovery plan.
Offers faster backup and restores and has air gap functionality
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for backups. We transitioned from Veeam to Rubrik, and we currently have on-premises backups for production and disaster recovery purposes. These backups are clustered between both sites, with 60 appliances used for backup operations.
What is most valuable?
Rubrik simplifies our data backup and recovery processes significantly. It's very straightforward to use. We start by tagging through VMware, and everything tagged for Rubrik is backed up automatically. Backups are much better and faster because Rubrik takes a full snapshot of the virtual machine. We recently conducted a verification by performing a restore, and even during the restore process, we could bring up the server in less than 10-15 minutes. Additionally, we have set up alerts for sensitive data, which helps us track data.
We have set up all the alerts for sensitive data. It's not exactly data governance fully, but it does help us to identify those data. The tool helps us to avoid vulnerabilities and any cyber protection issues. For example, if any antivirus or other security measures are on the system, Rubrik flags it immediately, indicating that a backup and an air gap are required. This ensures that no other backups would be impacted if there's an issue with one backup. Additionally, Rubrik comes with live monitoring capabilities, allowing its support team to identify and address any issues immediately.
The tool's most valuable features are the management of sensitive data, the air gap backup functionality, and the real-time monitoring capabilities. Additionally, the speed and reliability of the platform are also highly beneficial.
Instant recovery with Rubrik has significantly improved our RTOs. The process is much quicker than traditional backups, allowing us to restore backups with minimal downtime.
What needs improvement?
I hope to see enhancements in areas like data governance and the incorporation of new features in future updates.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
On a scale of one to ten, I would rate the stability of Rubrik as a ten. It meets our requirements and has become our primary backup solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
We faced no significant challenges while integrating Rubrik with our IT infrastructure. Their support team was excellent and assisted in the deployment process. Even after deployment, their responsiveness to tickets was impressive, addressing any issues promptly.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
I rate the product's deployment an eight out of ten.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I rate the tool's pricing a six out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
We found that Rubrik offered a comprehensive solution with a single appliance that met all our needs without requiring additional services or infrastructure. Other solutions often involved purchasing separate storage, servers, and proxy servers, which could be costly. In terms of cost, while Rubrik initially seemed more expensive, the overall cost was more favorable compared to the multiple components required by other solutions.
I rate the overall product a nine out of ten.
