Centralized cloud security has improved segmentation and visibility but still needs faster policy updates

  • December 11, 2025
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

I normally use Check Point CloudGuard Network Security to protect cloud workloads and control traffic between cloud resources. It is mostly for enforcing segmentation and managing security policies across different cloud environments.

A recent example of how I use Check Point CloudGuard Network Security to enforce segmentation or manage policies was when we deployed a new application tier in the cloud. I used CloudGuard to segment it from the rest of the environment and apply stricter threat prevention rules.

Check Point CloudGuard Network Security is deployed in the public cloud setup in my case.

Check Point CloudGuard Network Security does provide unified security management across hybrid clouds as well as on-premises. Having policies and visibility centralized in one place makes operations much smoother. Instead of managing separate rule sets for cloud and on-premises, I can apply consistent policies across both and see all traffic flows in a single dashboard. That cuts down on configuration risk and makes troubleshooting faster.

I do utilize Check Point CloudGuard Network Security alongside other Check Point products. In my case, I use it alongside Quantum and Harmony Endpoint.

What is most valuable?

The best features in Check Point CloudGuard Network Security are the centralized cloud-native policy management, strong threat prevention for cloud traffic, and automatic discovery of cloud assets.

The most valuable feature of Check Point CloudGuard Network Security in my day-to-day work is the centralized cloud-native policy management. I can control all the clouds, which is very beneficial.

Check Point CloudGuard Network Security has helped us reduce misconfigurations and improve how quickly we can secure new cloud workloads. We have also had fewer issues with unexpected traffic because the visibility tools make it easier to spot problems.

Check Point CloudGuard Network Security has helped me reduce my organizational risk. The clear visibility into cloud traffic and the automatic adaptation to cloud changes reduced the chance of misconfigurations, which were one of our biggest risks. The number of policy-related issues we had to fix dropped noticeably once we started using it.

It has increased my confidence in secure cloud deployments and migrations quite a bit. Knowing that policy adjusts automatically when new resources come online makes migration less stressful. The consistent visibility across environments also helps because I can verify traffic flows.

What needs improvement?

Check Point CloudGuard Network Security could be improved with faster policy propagation across large multi-cloud environments and more intuitive dashboards for complex rule sets.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Check Point CloudGuard Network Security for about one year and a half.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Check Point CloudGuard Network Security is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Check Point CloudGuard Network Security scales well as our cloud footprint grows. It handled adding more workloads and environments without major issues.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for Check Point CloudGuard Network Security is very good and very helpful, but I think it could be better on higher complexity issues.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used a mix of native cloud controls and some older firewall setups before Check Point CloudGuard Network Security. We switched because they did not give us the same level of unified visibility or consistent policies across environments.

How was the initial setup?

Securing a new workload with Check Point CloudGuard Network Security now could take a few hours before because I had to map out network paths and build policies manually. Now, it usually takes under an hour. The automatic asset discovery and clear visibility shave off a good chunk of the setup time.

What about the implementation team?

I purchased Check Point CloudGuard Network Security through the AWS Marketplace.

What was our ROI?

I cannot give a percentage for money, but we have seen a return mainly through time savings and fewer configuration-related issues with Check Point CloudGuard Network Security.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated solutions that compete with Check Point CloudGuard Network Security. We evaluated solutions from Palo Alto Networks, Prisma Cloud, and also Azure. However, AWS with Check Point CloudGuard Network Security was much easier to implement, and that is why we prefer it.

We did evaluate other options before choosing Check Point CloudGuard Network Security. The main alternatives we evaluated were Palo Alto's Prisma Cloud and some of the native security tools from Azure. They work for certain use cases, but Check Point CloudGuard Network Security gave us a stronger unified policy management.

What other advice do I have?

The core security features of Check Point CloudGuard Network Security work really well, but a few usability areas hold it back: the policy propagation speed and parts of the interface. I would give Check Point CloudGuard Network Security a rating of seven out of ten.

I would advise others looking into using Check Point CloudGuard Network Security to first plan ahead. I recommend starting with a small pilot across one or two tiers, defining policy and segmentation baselines upfront.

What do you like best about the product?
I like Check Point CloudGuard because it provides strong, advanced threat protection that goes beyond native cloud firewalls. It also gives a single, centralized console to manage security across multiple clouds. Policies are dynamic and update automatically using tags and identities, which reduces manual work. Overall, it makes cloud security simpler, consistent, and more powerful.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike that Check Point CloudGuard can be complex to deploy and manage, especially for beginners. It also requires higher skill levels compared to native cloud firewalls. Licensing and costs can be confusing and sometimes expensive for small teams. Updates and troubleshooting often depend heavily on Check Point TAC, which can slow things down.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
CloudGuard helps solve the challenge of securing workloads across multiple clouds with one consistent policy. It protects against advanced threats that native cloud firewalls can’t block. It also automates security using tags and identities, reducing manual work. Overall, it improves visibility, strengthens protection, and saves a lot of operational time.

I find Check Point CloudGuard Network Security to be exceptionally valuable for managing hybrid and multi-cloud environments efficiently. It offers robust automation and support features that assist in scaling operations smoothly. The platform helps ensure consistency across different environments, which significantly reduces errors and speeds up troubleshooting, making my workflow much more seamless and reliable. These features are crucial as they provide a streamlined process and ensure that the security measures are consistently applied, which greatly benefits my operations.
What do you dislike about the product?
I find Check Point CloudGuard Network Security not truly cloud-native, behaving more like a virtualized appliance rather than a fully integrated cloud-native service. Additionally, while the SmartConsole is powerful, it feels heavy and reminiscent of a pre-premises legacy console, which isn’t ideal considering most operations are moving to the cloud. Also, the initial setup wasn't straightforward; we had to navigate it ourselves, relying on available resources without much direct guidance.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

I like CloudGuard's features, but its UI is not very organized and it is difficult to use

  • November 19, 2024
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Checkpoint Cloudguard is an incredible cloud security product that is easy to use and offers a single sign-on feature that saves a ton of time.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have little use for Check Point CloudGuard Network Security. The product has good features, but they're outweighed by other problems. I can’t customize the settings. TAC team support is insufficient because they just provide templated answers and take a long time to respond. I do not recommend this software.

Ensures robust protection and centralized management for cloud environments, though it may require some initial learning and lacks comprehensive tech support

  • March 07, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We've implemented CloudGuard in Azure, configuring it as firewalls and file management systems. These functionalities skillfully oversee our API application and various aspects of our data center environment. Our entire infrastructure, hosted within Azure's data centers, is effectively managed by CloudGuard, ensuring comprehensive security coverage.

How has it helped my organization?

One of the notable benefits we've observed is the ease of deployment in our environment. It offers remarkable flexibility in how we configure and utilize the resources. This flexibility allows developers to seamlessly collaborate with network security experts to ensure that our applications are secure. This level of assurance has instilled confidence within our teams, knowing that we're deploying solutions that will be effectively managed.

CloudGuard Network Security offers unified security management across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments. With this comprehensive feature set, we benefit from enhanced flexibility. We can seamlessly manage both on-premises and cloud environments from a single interface, simplifying our operations and providing a centralized view of our data.

On a scale of one to ten, our confidence level in CloudGuard Network Security stands at an eight. This rating signifies that it surpasses the average level of confidence. While we acknowledge that there's always room for improvement in technology, we believe that CloudGuard Network Security has demonstrated its effectiveness and reliability.

What is most valuable?

The data center objects, checks, and other components are thoroughly examined, allowing us to incorporate them into our policy definitions. This approach has proven to be highly effective, akin to the standards typically seen in on-premises environments.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement regarding the technical support provided. Having a more refined and advanced feature would offer significant benefits.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for three and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In terms of stability, it's rock solid. I haven't encountered much trouble over the past three and a half years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It performs well in terms of the use case scenario where deployment is required, and its scalability is satisfactory. Overall, I would say it's good enough for our needs.

How are customer service and support?

In terms of tech support, I would rate it a four on a scale of one to ten, which is lower than it used to be. Previously, I would have rated it a seven. Over the years, I've noticed a decline in the technical expertise of support staff. While I have extensive experience with Check Point products spanning fifteen to twenty years, I find it increasingly challenging to get the level of assistance I need. Support personnel nowadays seem to specialize in only one or two products, making it difficult to get comprehensive assistance for complex issues. This lack of holistic understanding delays problem resolution and frustrates customers.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We've been loyal users of Check Point products for quite some time now. The company has a strong reputation in the industry, and I have more experience with Check Point products compared to others. It offers some of the best services available in the industry.

When comparing CloudGuard Network Security to other solutions for identifying security threats, it emerges as one of the leaders in the field. Our statistics demonstrate its effectiveness, with a notable ninety percent or higher success rate. Check Point covers the majority of our security needs, achieving a remarkable ninety-nine percent success rate, which is among the best in the industry. In terms of setup and reliability, we have a strong preference for CloudGuard.

We opted not to proceed with our vendor's cloud firewall solution because it lacked a comprehensive understanding of our network infrastructure. These solutions are primarily tailored to the specific environment of the vendor, which may not align with our needs. Instead, we prefer utilizing an NGFW appliance or a more versatile NBI device, such as those offered by Check Point. This approach allows us to avoid vendor lock-in and leverage familiar security devices. By partnering with third-party vendors like Check Point, we gain flexibility and can choose products specifically designed for security purposes. This contrasts with relying solely on the cloud service provider's offerings, which may prioritize their products over comprehensive security. In my opinion, solutions like those from Check Point offer a more mature and reliable approach to network security.

What about the implementation team?

During the initial deployment phase, we encountered a learning curve as we transitioned from traditional firewall deployment methods to cloud-based environments. One concern was whether the throughput would match that of physical appliances. However, we ultimately found the performance to be satisfactory and were pleased with the results. We engaged with both Check Point and third-party experts to assist with deployment, given that it was a new process for us. Drawing on their expertise proved invaluable in navigating the deployment process smoothly.

What was our ROI?

The return on investment has become evident over the past three years. As a global company, we've successfully migrated over two hundred applications from on-premises to the cloud. This transition has provided us with greater flexibility and enhanced security measures, allowing us to efficiently patch and maintain applications without significant downtime. Overall, it has significantly improved our operational efficiency and streamlined our processes.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We explored both pay-as-you-go and build-your-own-licensing models, and found both to be competitive. While everyone desires lower prices, we're content with the current pricing structure, as it meets our needs effectively.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate it seven out of ten.

Provides unified management, but the version upgrade seems to have a limitation

  • February 26, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We are using it for network security.

The whole reason we got it was to expand and make an extension to the Azure Cloud so that we could establish services that would make a link between the on-prem and the cloud. That was the goal.

How has it helped my organization?

We have unified management. It is one of the advantages of this product.

In terms of protection, we have not yet done any kind of penetration tests. We will check them later. In the future, we would also want to use all kinds of features such as IPS, IPSec, etc.

What is most valuable?

Its advantage is its layout. You do not need to get any unique devices and install them. The installation is easy. The assimilation is less easy because you have to work with a manager in Azure and upload and define all kinds of addresses.

In essence, you do exactly what you do with on-prem. It is the same operation. You can manage it in the same way as on-prem, which is an advantage. You can manage the firewall in the cloud from on-prem, and you do not need any more interventions.

What needs improvement?

There is a limitation with the version upgrade. We are using version 81.10 and from what I understand, it is problematic to upgrade this version. I do not know if that is true. I am trying to figure it out. If I want to upgrade to a newer version, I have to make new machines. If this is true, it will negatively impact my thoughts regarding the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is always running. Its availability is high because it is located in two different data centers. This is the purpose of the cloud. It is located in two data centers in two different countries. We have placed one in Frankfurt, and the other one is in Amsterdam or London. That is the advantage. Because it is not the same country or city, the availability is great.

How are customer service and support?

I mainly receive support from an integrator. Check Point did not accompany me as a vendor from the beginning. I am satisfied with the integrator at the moment. He gives me the answers.

We had a few inquiries recently, and he gave me the answers. They were also very helpful during the installation. So, I have had less communication with the manufacturer. For more complex issues, I can communicate with Check Point's support.

I would rate the integrator's support a nine out of ten because sometimes, it takes a long time for the integrator to find the solution to the malfunctions. The glitch related to the deleted machines was very critical for our organization. Things were working normally on the network, but the entire project was simply blocked for a few days. I expected the integrator to open a ticket in a faster way, but he did not open any ticket at all. He resolved it all by himself, but he did not share with us what the solution was. Deleting things and opening them again is not good enough because there is no reassurance that the glitch will not happen again.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use any other solution before this.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is simple. We just had to put it in two centers and deploy it. It was easy.

During the process, we had to wipe a machine. Microsoft gave us some addresses to work with. We used those addresses because we needed public addresses to work with. At first, we were not able to do something properly, so we deleted the machine. When we came back to set up the machine, we had to take new addresses from Microsoft all over again. I do not know whether it was because of Azure or whether it was Check Point´s fault.

What was our ROI?

I do not know if I have seen a return on investment because we are at the beginning of establishing the cloud. It is not entirely working yet. At the moment, it is not in production, but I assume that there will be an ROI.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is not expensive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I wanted to try Palo Alto at first, but because my entire setup was already in Check Point, I did not go in that direction. I wanted unified management. I also consulted my team, and they said that they do not want to come and manage another firewall because of the management and knowledge it requires. The advantage of this solution was unified management.

What other advice do I have?

My recommendation for those who are thinking of installing the product is to check its survivability at the level of downloading a machine and uploading it. Do not upload all the applications straight away to run tests. Research first.

Based on my experience, I would rate it a seven out of ten. There were some malfunctions. There were also issues at the beginning due to the lack of a dependency needed for it to function. The experience is not yet perfect, but like any product, it will improve over time. In the end, I need stability in the cloud, but right now, that feeling is not there. I do not have the feeling of stability where I can say that the production and the service will not drop again. That is the concern. I want to start uploading some kind of application to production soon.
