I liked the product until.....

What do you like best about the product?
VEEAM for AWS was easy to setup and get running. After it was running it worked without incident and was easy to use for our backups as well as DR backups to S3. The product also is affordable UNLESS you use Marketplace assets (see dislikes). I would recommend this product for any customer using standard AWS AMI's but I would encourage caution if someone uses licensed Marketplace assets (see dislikes) as you may get surprised by additional charges.
What do you dislike about the product?
I noticed one flaw that I saw as a major issue. Unfortunately VEEAM doesnt seem to want to address it. This issue will affect anyone using a Marketplace license for a system (Red Hat, Suse, etc). These licenses tag their primary disk with the license. When VEEAM creates a backup it creates a snapshot and then a new volume from the snapshot, mounting it on a worker instance of your sizing. Because it mounts the volume of the system being backed up and because that volume is tagged as a licensed system you will be getting charged an additional hourly marketplace charge for that licensed system. If you have a large amount of these systems this can get VERY expensive as these will also be hourly charges outside of your license contract.

I really wish VEEAM would look at this issue but so far their response was "this is working as intended." So now I must look elsewhere.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
VEEAM Backup for AWS managed all of our internal backups as well as DR dumps to S3.

When it works its great; however, a backup solution must be reliable. About every two or three weeks, the web interface of the Veeam stack server becomes unreachable and the backup jobs stop processing. The lack of documentation makes a problem of this nature extremely difficult to troubleshoot. Needless to say, I will be exploring other backup options.

Impossible to get a working configuration for me. No place where to find help. At last I gave up with this product.
