What do you like best about the product?
Managing gitlab is very simple and easy. Very minimum learning curve.
What do you dislike about the product?
Search capabilites need to be improved. Bitbucket is much better in searching.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have all our repositories in git and we use it for review, CICD as well.

It is a very good software for Git repositories

  • May 10, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the pipelines that you can configure to block or allow Merge Requests. It also has a feature to block the button "Merge" in a Merge Request when you add a dependent Merge Request.
What do you dislike about the product?
I generally like it, but I personally prefer GitHub. I use GitLab because I have to do it in my work. Apart from it, GitLab fails from time to time, so the pipelines don't run or I cannot merge my work for some minutes or hours.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The company can store the repositories and allow the developers to clone them and create merge requests into important branches. We can enable code owners so some developers will have to approve some specific merge requests that involve their code.

What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing bad about it. Found it to be absolutely fine the way it is.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Continuous deployment to server really helps to make the project live asap.

A feature-rich and a well-organized solution that is scalable

  • May 03, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

It is used for saving source code, and then people get the source code out of it, make a branch, and merge it to make a big file for deployment. So it's mainly a source code deployment tool.

What is most valuable?

GitLab is very well-organized and easy to use. Also, it offers most features that customers need. So I think it's one of the best solutions compared to other options. So, it's the most capable and easiest tool.

What needs improvement?

In terms of the solution's interface and features, I am satisfied.

As a partner, sometimes it's difficult to get support. They have a really complicated procedure for their support. Apart from the aforementioned reason, I am very satisfied with the product. It is only after we are registered that we get proper support from GitLab. The registration itself it's quite complicated, and it is mainly because they want to make sure that the users with a license contact the right support team.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using GitLab for two years. My company has a partnership with GitLab. I am using GitLab Version 15.6.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight or nine out of ten. Since it is software, they can have some bug-related issues, and no software is 100% protected. GitLab has many features in different areas, so I cannot specify which specific area has a problem.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten. My clients who use the solution are medium-sized businesses.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support is good. I rate the technical support a ten out of ten. Only the initial registration is complicated.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup process was easy. I rate the initial setup a ten out of ten. The solution can be deployed in a day. Only one engineer is required to deploy the solution. Also, the solution does require maintenance. Using it as a different storage operation when it comes to maintenance, there can probably be some updates that can fix security patches and other issues. So, we have several employees working on many different solutions and projects. But only one person is actually required for its maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Price-wise, it is a reasonable solution. On a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive, I rate the pricing a five out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

It's a great solution. So I would recommend it to those who want to use it. I rate the overall solution a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

    Computer & Network Security

I'm highly satisfied and recommend this.

Useful code management, scales well, but lacking AI

  • April 28, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We are using GitLab for team collaboration, code management, and certain CICD pipelines.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of GitLab are the CI/CD pipeline and code management.

What needs improvement?

Merge conflicts and repository maintenance could improve. If there is someone new to the system they would not know if there is a conflict.

In a feature release, it would be helpful if there was AI integrated into the system. For example, if there was a CI/CD pipeline available, we could configure them for our purpose without doing the process manually.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using GitLab for approximately four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the stability of GitLab a seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the scalability setup of GitLab a seven out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience using GitHub, but GitLab is a superior platform. One major advantage of GitLab is the ability to maintain a private cloud with a wide range of features. It also allows for quick setup of CI/CD pipelines. Garrett is becoming popular amongst developers for code maintenance.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of GitLab takes a long time because there is a lot to configure.

I rate the initial setup of GitLab a seven out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

I rate GitLab a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

GitLab is decent for issue tracking but not project management.

  • April 21, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The UI for issue tracking is fairly flexible, and the label system is usable.
What do you dislike about the product?
Its gantt chart roadmap view is limited and lacks enough features to be useful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
GitLab is an improved interface for git issue tracking. It also allows local repositories instead of the cloud.
