Secure VPN for remote employees

  • February 11, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SonicWall Net Extender provides the capability to seamlessly and securely access the corporate network, internal files, servers, or custom applications remotely.

The connection can be made on numerous devices, including desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets, which allows users to access important information remotely as if they were in the office. Our company has offices in locations all across the world, this VPN client gives employees remote access from anywhere. The software can also be used on an administrator level to regulate employee access.

SonicWall provides excellent security to help protect private communications and information when using an unsecured, external network. These networks can be vulnerable to hackers, and can cause immense repercussions if information is leaked.

SonicWall pairs well with DuoMobile two step verification login; this adds another layer of security when accessing corporate information on unsecured networks. Once the user has been authenticated, SonicWall creates an IPSec Layer-3 connection between your computer and the corporate network to ensure the confidentiality of private data.
What do you dislike about the product?
The biggest frustration with SonicWall Net Extender is the software's data transmission speeds. When there are a large number of users using the VPN network it puts a strain on the tunnels and begins to bog down the application and reduces the speed and reliability of the network. At times this can cause the remote connection to drop, requiring the user to re-authenticate and reconnect to the VPN network.

Port forwarding is more difficult than it should be to implement. I had to search the web and watch YouTube videos to figure out how to set this up.

The price is also off-putting. It is a pricey VPN client that may not be accessible for smaller companies on a budget.

Customer support is also lacking and wait times are substantial.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SonicWall Net Extender provides an easy to use solution for secure, encrypted access through the Internet for remote users. This ensures that confidential data is protected when accessing company files on an unsecured network.

The benefit to this is that employees are able to work remote when needed. The VPN allows them to access the company server and files as if they were in the office. The ability to work remote has increased workplace flexibility and improved employee moral.

The ability to work remote is also beneficial for employees traveling for work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
SonicWall is a great VPN client that allows users to access corporate servers from anywhere in the world. Employees are able to work from home and have all of the capabilities as they would in the office.

The user interface is not very intuitive so it requires some level of VPN knowledge to get the hang of it. It is also pricier than some competitors so that may be a factor to consider especially for smaller companies. Despite the downsides, SonicWall offers excellent security and ensures that confidential documents remain safe, even when accessing them on an unsecured network.

It's reliable! Sonicwall UTM

  • January 05, 2019

What do you like best about the product?
Overall, I like most of the feature of Sonicwall, but here, I would like to mentioned about one the feature from the bundle, and which is IPS. Off course, when IPS is enabled performance may goes down due to multitasking, and consumption of other resource, still it's gives best performance. When IPS is enabled, we can evade number of illegal traffic towards our network. And Sonicwall has great database of IPS signature with perfect classification.
What do you dislike about the product?
Well, there are couple of things that can be improved, such as when GUI is being access is very slow, rules managing, log monitoring is not available on the device where you need separate device/cloud service to store the data. One more thing, which is when you integrate AD with device, you can not create custom group as it use from AD server.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
After the deployment of product, we noticed that many issues was resolved and it's being. Firstly, performance is excellent. when we check the load on device with full function, it was great deal. We did stop many illegal/illegitimate to and from traffic. We believe that it's more stable then the expectation. Off course, remote users are getting no issues while connecting to infra and while accessing through this device.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Absolutely, any one is looking for UTM with full function within their budget, I guess that's the device for you.

SonicWall hasn't been the same since Dell bought them

  • December 04, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SonicWall device performs well to distribute our network load for our office over 2 upstream providers.
What do you dislike about the product?
SonicWall used to be lean and mean - since being purchased by Dell it hasn't seem to be moving as quickly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Given that most websites are moving to HTTPS, the content protection afforded by the SonicWall is mostly useless unless you turn on DPI-SSL -- and that brings with it other issues (cpu load, deploying the local RootCA, etc)

Another approach that allows us to multiply how we prevent security threats

  • October 31, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The features of SonicWall in the TZ and NSA family include SonicWall's Cloud-based Advanced Threat Protection with different engines. The results are satisfactory in our organization as we manage more than 350 locations that require us to be vigilant against attacks and ensure business continuity. With ATP, we have saved time and human resources as their cloud platform facilitates the prevention of zero-day threats.
What do you dislike about the product?
For the ATP solution, an additional license is needed, and this raises the cost if you only consider acquiring the comprehensive licensing. Additionally, if there is no channel that provides 24/7 support services, you deal directly with the brand by raising an RMA.
On the other hand, regarding reports, I don't like that you have to buy the GMS solution because with the control panels that the box already has, it is not very helpful since you don't have full visibility of what is happening in my network. The GMS solution involves additional licenses that can be On-premise - In the Cloud - on local servers.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We protected ourselves from various ransomware and Petya that could have affected the organization's operations, as well as being more productive in support matters.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It has a portfolio of specialized solutions such as Email Security-Capture Client.

A respectable budget-friendly security/firewall solution

  • October 22, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The SonicWall is a great "all in one" package. It offers robust content filtering, firewall features, security monitoring, virus/spyware blocking, and lots more.
What do you dislike about the product?
Since this is an "All in one" solution, it doesn't have the same granular controls over specific areas compared to dedicated products.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Keeping our network safe and secure. SonicWall has allowed us to do this at a cost we can afford.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
SonicWall is a great product for those in small businesses or small education environments.

The Sonicwall devices have good performance and their operation is very stable.

  • September 14, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
From Sonicwall, I like the performance of their devices, the data provided by their GMS Analyzer reporting system is very good.
What do you dislike about the product?
Very little is what I don't like about Sonicwall, the handling of the Digital certificate for the DPI-SSL filter is good, but sometimes some problems arise that require time to solve.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Companies have many problems with filtering navigation through the HTTPS protocol, as most pages now work with this protocol, and Sonicwall's handling of this issue meets the needs very well.

Many applications help users navigate in an encrypted manner, bypassing the security filter, so handling through Sonicwall applications is very good, as these applications are simply blocked and everything works well.

The integration with Active Directory is also very good, as the detection of users through LDAP, with the SSO feature activated, makes the user experience as transparent as possible.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I have received experiences with Sophos, Palo Alto, Fortigate, and some other devices, and I have found that Sonicwall is very versatile and intuitive in handling, in addition to its performance and rule execution being optimal.

When creating and applying rules, it is very agile, and I have not encountered any problems.

Nice web interface

  • July 31, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use of the software. Makes it very simple to get through and fix. These provide a firewall for our stores and assist in PCI certification. Very happy with the web interface.
What do you dislike about the product?
The actual hardware. We have had several go bad after a year. They take a long time to replace. The ports seem to go bad first. They do not like change at all. It is an odd thing to me.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allows us to protect our the PCI integrity of our retail locations.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you have someone skilled enough to use the more sophisticated elements of the software.
