Good stability and easy initial setup process

  • May 10, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

We have used the solution to manage database administration and custom attributes.

What is most valuable?

The solution has all the essential features. We can manipulate bulk data, clean up data, divide it into compartments, and optimize it.

What needs improvement?

There should be a training platform for the solution without the complexities of owning a server partition in our system.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the solution's stability a ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. We have 1200 solution users in our organization.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup was straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution as a ten. I advise others to have durable resources to handle the operations of MySQL systems.

MySQL and PHP frameworks goes together flawlessly

  • May 08, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
MySQL is an open-source software and it is free to use. It has quite a number of community support for the database and resources can be found very easily. PHP developers like us don't need to specially get a license for the development work that we are doing. There are tons of MySQL connectors that are available for popular frameworks like CakePHP.
What do you dislike about the product?
MySQL does not support JSON data types. Postgres on the other hand allows me to store the JSON data in JSON blobs. If the data is formatted in JSON Format doing my data transformation, SQL query is impossible without using an ETL tool.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The cost. I do not have to spend money to pay the license fee, as it is free of cost and available on the official website for download.

Dynamic workflows but lacks stability

  • May 03, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

My primary use case for MySQL is with my products or websites for clients, and it helps me maintain relations with the best.

What is most valuable?

The relations in the database, the dynamic workflow, and the ability to connect with all columns. It's useful for e-commerce.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement in terms of the stability of the solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using MySQL for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability a seven out of ten. It does break down a little at times.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability a seven out of ten.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup depends. For example, when working with e-commerce sites, it can be difficult to connect, and there may be failures. However, for other sites, it's easy.

What about the implementation team?

Our organization is using MySQL by having it hosted through a hosting provider.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is free. It is an open-source platform.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate MySQL a six out of ten. I recommend MySQL for small organizations and companies. For bigger organizations, one may need to consider other options.

You can also consider your project, budget, and organization while opting for MySQL. If it's a government or private project and what the product is.

MYSQL- user friendly database

  • April 28, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
There are lots of things which i like about mysql like, it is very very user friendly, easy to setup, easy to upgrade the version, easy to take backup and restore and easy to set up replication
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing which i dislike about the product, but some time i feel support should answer the tickets bit late and takes more than a usual time, otherwise it is one of the best database i have ever used
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
earlier our company were having small database on MS-Access which is not relational, we have to open multiple sheets to work on that, then we have migrated all our access sheets to mysql in a free-tier and started working on the database, then we have build our application like that and now we feel we are very late in using RDBMS

An easy-to-install solution that is used for customer management authentication

  • April 27, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use MySQL for customer management authentication in our company.

What is most valuable?

The use of MySQL is really dictated by the software we use. So we have put software that dictates the use of MySQL and MongoDB. We think we've found the goal of the company related to strengthening its business systems.

What needs improvement?

Since we started the development, like, three years ago, it's just been improving, so there are no areas that need to improve. It is easy to use.

The licensing cost of the solution is expensive, which MySQL needs to consider improving.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using MySQL for three years. It's based on the call systems or based on the console.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the solution's stability a ten out of ten since it has been running flawlessly.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It works well. So, I rate its scalability a ten out of ten. Our company is managing hundreds to thousands of clients, but we use MySQL for different projects. So, around 50 users work on it.

In terms of increasing the solution's usage, I think we've done enough, like, stabilizing MySQL.

How are customer service and support?

Our company has contacted the technical support of MySQL. It was very easy to get connected to them. However, it cost us a fortune. For SMBs in South Africa, a thousand or ten thousand dollars an hour is a lot of money. It was expensive, but it was worth it.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have previously used a solution for location and mapping-related stuff. Our choice to move to MySQL was dictated by software. So, we use different programs for applications.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. The deployment process takes a few seconds.

What about the implementation team?

We had to seek the help of some consultants to implement the product since there was some difficult stuff. But that was long ago. Nowadays, we avoid seeking help from consultants since it has become pretty simple. So, better experienced and well-trained people would do it for us. It's not a problem.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I believe we have a few cluster solutions. I think that MySQL is a premium product. But I don't manage that part.

What other advice do I have?

The solution's documentation and support are awesome. Also, its speed has increased in the last few years. So, we have never had any issues with it. If there were any errors, then they were human errors.

Today with many other options, we stick with MySQL and recommend it to others. There are so many other things that are more suitable for different purposes, and I will have to do research to know more about them. MySQL has been around for a decade, so something cannot go wrong. Its big support communities make it easy to resolve problems since there is always somebody who can help.

I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

Best in Class and Ease Of Use From the RDBMS Family

  • April 25, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
MySql is providing a database storage solution where we can store our personal, business, Analytics related data in a structured way. And later on, once we are required we can get it via SQL script, These are the basics, what actually MySQL provides is industry-level security, consistency in Database, and providing zero data loss solution for the business. Mainly MySQL is known for its Transactional Database and very hot favorite in the Banking sector.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is nothing to dislike About MySQL since its providing Database services, its family of RDBMS (Relational Database management system), And this is how we expect it to run. But if we see at the technical level, then there are multiple Technical lags that other DBMS are providing in the market, like Logical replication is the most missing feature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
MySQL is ACID compliant Database service, doing this it's making sure our data will be no loss and it provides high security to be hacked by hackers, Since it's coming from the RDBMS family it works on a very known language called SQL, and using this we can store and retrieve data seamlessly. since it's coming as community and enterprise version, we can take license as we required, Mostly MySQL use by the community version and its community is too big since its very pioneer system which is providing the database solution.
