For the longest time, a great DB product, with growing stability

  • October 05, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
For years, I've been using MySQL as the base for the majority of open-source products I've worked with. From installation to integration, nothing has been easier, and configuration has always been a breeze.
What do you dislike about the product?
Occasionally, and upgrade on a Ubuntu box may not work properly when automated, but there's plenty of documentation from others out there who've experienced the same thing
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Currently using it as a back-end DB for Piwik. Performance outweighs any others

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy of use. Compatible with many legacy systems. Customer support is attentive. Price point value
What do you dislike about the product?
Version upgrades. Monitoring tools are spread among several applications. Would like to get more branding
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have solved many of our business practices by using MySQL. Cost effective

MySQL is scaleable and can be used on different platforms

  • September 28, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The fact that Oracle MySQL is an excellent choice for multi-platform environments makes it a lot more desirable than SQL Server. It is as capable and the performance is on par with any other database in existence today.
What do you dislike about the product?
Porting a MySQL application to Microsoft SQL Server, or to a competing SQL database engine, requires a significant amount work. SQL Server is backward compatible, MySQL in comparison not so much.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are a giant retail company that operates thousands of stores throughout America and many more abroad. We use MySQL to manage active store information, among other things. I have realized that SQL in MySQL workbench makes it very easy for us to work with our stores data/database. It is highly customization and the UI is extremely flexible.

What do you like best about the product?
I like that MySQL is approachable by users starting with database development.
What do you dislike about the product?
At this point I have not had any issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to house company data for our comany products with this database system. It has offered open source advantages over more tradition proprietary database solutions.

The Best Free Little Relational Database

  • September 19, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
MySQL is like the GMC of databases. It's everywhere, it's easy to work on, and it's easy to find people who know how to use it.
What do you dislike about the product?
MySQL is still clunky. You need to live in the command line. It doesn't abstract away the operating system enough.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rarely is MySQL used for any reason other than it's bundled with the product you're already using, like WordPress.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're thinking about MySQL and you don't really know much about relational databases, back up. And if you're looking for a relational database option you should also be considering NoSQL options. If you don't know about that, back up.

MySQL is the free DB that you should use!

  • August 08, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
MySQL is a SQL based relational database that's now owned by Oracle (eww). It's still free (community edition), supports all of the fancy things SQL Server supports as well as clustering!
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish MySQL would support replication across availability zones in AWS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Persistence of user information for cloud enterprise software.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
1) Make sure that your uses are fulfilled by a relational database and not a key/value store.

User-friendly SQL tool

  • August 04, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to lay down your projects visually with MySQL workbench a nice GUI makes working with MySQL a breeze. Its speed and stability are great too!
What do you dislike about the product?
Though I don't dislike anything about MySQL, I must admit the learning curve was a bit steep at the beginning.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ability to integrate a full-featured SQL engine in a number of data mining applications. MySQL provides a fairly intuitive way to organize large datasets to be called later on in machine learning applications.

Great RDBS platform, but really stagnated once Oracle bought it

  • July 27, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Still easy enough to use after all these years.
What do you dislike about the product?
After Oracle acquired them, progress and feature growth died. MariaDB seemed to pick up where that acquisition left off
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
MySQL is naturally the backend for a few WordPress sites we have (though we almost went with MariaDB out of spite against Oracle ; )
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you just need a regular WordPress or Drupal or conventional website with lower traffic, MySQL is still a viable option. But if you need to scale and provide high availability, then you need to look into MariaDB or even AWS Aurora. I'd also recommend using AWS RDS and creating clusters.
