Fastest out of the box database solution with wide support.
What do you like best about the product?
MySQL is the core of any LAMP stack web solution. It has wide industry support and simple mechanics. Recently, there has been new competition in this space, but I would argue that they require more maintenance and internal knowledge. If you are deploying a db solution without a support contract, MySQL is hard to beat.
What do you dislike about the product?
MySQL is a quick and easy solution, but careful attention is required to insure that the db is optimized for the application. Small-scale applications work great with MySQL out of the box, however.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main benefit to MySQL comes from it's wide adoption. It is very easy to manage and community knowledge is high.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
MySQL is very reliable. I have used it for a dozen or so websites. The only out of the box limitation comes from scalabilty issues. These are easily remedied by plugins and additional hardware and configuration. But keep in mind, that if you are expecting high traffic application design is very important when implementing MySQL.

MySQL is an open source database software that our firm has used for years. It can be used on most platforms available from Windows and Mac to RedHat, etc.
Features like high availability give you security if the stability of the database.

Start with the MySQL Community Edition, which is freely downloadable version and open source. It is available under the GPL license and is supported by a huge and active community of open source developers. Check out the community boards.

rock solid reliability about mysql is the best thing i like about it.

MySQL servers often run into replication conflicts during a manual failover when multi-master setups are involved.

All basic servers has mysql as SGBDD . SO you don't need to pay extra to get oracle or mongo DB.
It's very simple to do CRUD (create, read, update, delete). It supports for all most, all programming language.

It' less better with huge data bases (tera bites) . Search is less effective than mongo. The response time is not good enuff.

ALL my 11 websites runs with MySql Database. I use it to store information about guests , transaction , bots , crawler .. allmost every thing .

The best for small websites .But if you need more efficient there is Mongo DB

What do you like best about the product?
I started using MySQL simply because our production platform uses it and we didn't like the reporting we were getting. I was able to go from complete novice to a report and process creating junkie in short order. It has transformed the information we share and our ability to rely on actual measurements instead of gut-feeling.
What do you dislike about the product?
While it is easy to use it takes quite a bit of time for the timid and afraid to get comfortable with. I'd love to see a great user-friendly front-end tool for Windows.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Where we previously used multiple Excel spreadsheets to track our progress across multiple departments we now rely on our MySQL database and its various tables and triggers to provide us with information. We now have centralized data and have been able to create enough automations to reduce the manual data entry to the point that we were able to repurpose 2 full-time employees.
