It is a data platform used for multiple purposes
What do you like best about the product?
It's is usually best to be used for ETL and ELT. This is the best in market tool of its kind, it can also connect to various sources via it's connectors of different options

Vertica can be made more flexible interms of its cost and management of infrastructure so customer have more options to costomise in much more flexible way.....

It is used to make centralised repository to build unified data platform. As it is vercitile in connecting to multiple data sources both file system and data bases

Column oriented SQL database, superb for data warehouse and analytics.

Not enough performance for plain queries like select etc. Update query performance in worst, but delete/insert better than update

Vertica is not just a database, it is a best in class analytical platform as well and is powerful enough to store huge data from big data platforms in a single unified platform

Vertica can host it's more services as our offering, also as SAS cloud service. Also can make their cost model more flexible so customer can have more liberty to chose as per necessity

Vertica is mainly used for both typical ETL and ELT use cases. It helped in pulling data from and migrating from On-premise storage systems and also helped in building unified data platform

It provides many useful big data services and supports languages like java and python.

All the syntax and function naming speaks for themself on top of that good documentation always comes to the rescue they also have very active and huge community for helping in case.

no multi-line insert statement is kinda stopping us sometimes need some tweaking around to find the exact solution which will work perfectly It is inherent problem when you comes to columunar DB.

we need to store a huge amount of data in the database and query some of it at a time. while querying few column from big database it takes constant amount of time when using vertica

We can process millions of records and the aggregation operation is also super fast.
Also, the insert operation is not taking that much time. The usage of CTEs which actually her stands in analogous to temp table operation is also very useful.

What do you dislike about the product?
A native development environment and absence of parameters and absence of stored procedures. It would be better if you could provide all these and along with some profiler service.
Plus the performance is very poor if we use UNION ALL operation that too with the same data set.

The aggregation operation is so fast that we are planning for data streaming rather than ETL and we hope the same performance will be there as well.
We are processing millions of records within milliseconds using Vertica, and there is no considerable variation in performance even when we use "OR" conditions in filter, which is one of the bottlenecks in conventional RDBMSs
