Vertica the high performance DB
What do you like best about the product?
It's performance, scalability and it's ease of use.Its reduced data storage is another great feature. It is IO optimized DB
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing, supporting procedure would be a good option.Deletion is slower in vertica
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helped in our huge volume and query performance issue which was a pain in traditional DB
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Please go ahead with vertica as it is one of the best DB for analytics.A POC will help in judging it's advantages
If you have bulk Data to process and heavy processing load then vertica is a good choice.
What do you like best about the product?
we have machine learning and NLP work, I like the most about is I can do much Regular expression and Data cleaning directly in Vertica. We can create our own function which is most helpful thing.
What do you dislike about the product?
For simple crud operation with some joins query could be faster.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Regular expression at Vertica level I personally used the most for my profesional work. And our team is using it work various machine learning work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for ETL solution then give a chance to Vertica. Performance is good and maximize performance for work related to big data.

What do you like best about the product?
It's extremely helpful for fast querying on the reporting side involving TBs of data. We had migrated same data to newer streaming dbs which did not perform as well for the large data. It's easy to learn and implement - uncluttered and simple ! System tables are easy to read to understand underlying workings.
What do you dislike about the product?
Tuning is developer centric. Which means performance heavily depends on the developers decisions and knowledge. Conditional Updates not possible for alrge datasets - db crashes

Sub second performance benchmark are met and nice integration with dashboards

Awesome for sub second performance for huge datasets.
Real fast database with horizontal scalability and features like UDx making it more powerful
What do you like best about the product?
Vertica UDx is one of the best capabilities from which you can extend Vertica based on your custom needs, along with this it's integrated environment for ML models is pretty good which brings analytics on plate in just matter of steps.
Vertica Eon mode is another best function which provides greater scalability without downtime and even saves the cost.

What do you dislike about the product?
Despite pros con is if you want to bring node up after crash all ip address needs to be same or as an alternative you have to update catalogue (which is generally not recommended)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Analytical problem for various dashboard and reporting solutions.
Major benefit is sub second performance, logging integration with Kafka for real-time data syncing etc.

If you have analytical workload comprising of realtime and scheduled load and tou need sub second performance, give a try to Vertica as its friendly and cost effective with lot of flexibility and good support.

Projections feature and rich analytical functions are something I really liked and solved multiple problems

No inbuilt Encryption feature, would have better if encryption could be enabled easily

I worked in Vertica almost more than 6years. I found it was good analytical DB.
What do you like best about the product?
Columnar DB, concepts of Projection, Continued availablity,flextable etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Updates seems to be slow. We used to follow delete and under concepts.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We did technology transfer from legacy application to new technology, and used Vertica for Trasfermation for data warehousing

What do you like best about the product?
The speed, Vertica is very fast to use and easily compatible with SQL Workbench tool which helps development , testing , debugging very easy. The columnar structure is the optimum solution for reporting. It is one of the fastest MPPs to work on.
What do you dislike about the product?
The updates are a show stopper in Vertica, they are very costly.
The Projections and order by clause for better resource utilization are not hasslefree.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Vertica is an advantage on Teradata and Oracle, it is much faster and reporting to iPhone apps works like a charm. The projection provide an easy way to optimize without changing the base tables and thus increases scalability.

It helps us to replace Teradata as database over the presentation layer for reporting to users.
Very fast in computation and almost same data retrieval time which is hard to see in Teradata helps us to move to Vertica for the reporting layer for over project.

this is very fast DB, good column compression and since it's SQL it is relatively essay to use

some time the optimiser is not good it may select to not the best way to get the data, and this is not that simple to improve the query.
